Chapter 61: Infiltration

Today is 5/8/5.

The protagonist rides "Little Black" and discreetly scouts [Bunloaf] and other lairs from a distance.

This time, because of the distance, it did not arouse the enemy's alarm, and there was no parasitic flying knight to chase and kill again.

There are only a few traces of parasitic ants outside [Bun City], indicating that this place is no longer an ant.

Although he had already guessed that the main force of the Divine Envoy King's army had suffered the most unfortunate fate, the protagonist was still unwilling to circle over and over again, trying to find a trace of the slightest survivor.

There are many remnants of nests that can be seen in the swamp area, and there was apparently a period of large-scale construction after the main army arrived in the swamp. Because the island in the pond is long and narrow, it only has a large area of land near [Round Bread City], which is not suitable for the expansion of a single nest. Obviously, the Divine Envoy King's Legion has chosen the development strategy of building more secondary nests.

But all of these newly built nests have fallen, and now they are empty, with no sign of ants surviving.

The protagonist also tentatively enters the underground of several nests, and the inside is the same as the first nest, empty of ants, only a few clues.

Only outside the two largest nests, [Bungacity] and [Swamp City], the protagonist sees living creatures, but they are all parasitic ants.

These parasitic ants roam around the nest in search of food, and sometimes there are flying knights taking to the skies to patrol, which is already overrun by parasitic ants.

In the vicinity of [Everglades City], the protagonist also sees several scattered walnut boats, stranded on the shore.

When encountering parasitic ants, the protagonist always hides far away, or uses the cover of vegetation to observe the actions of these parasitic ants more safely.

On a few occasions, if it weren't for the fact that the parasitic ants were all acting in groups, it would be easy to startle the snakes, and the protagonist would want to rush up and scratch his tongue and ask what was going on, why [Bunloaf] exploded, why all the nests had fallen, and why were the Divine Angel King warriors infected with parasitic bacteria? Are there any survivors?

He wanted to know the answer, and even if he knew it, he couldn't change the truth if he knew the answer!

Hundreds of thousands of God-making kings and warriors have fallen or died!

He's not reconciled...

- I'm the dividing line -

In the evening, the protagonist lurks in the vicinity of [Bread City] again.

Throughout the day, he wanders around [Bungaku] and [Swamp City], and the parasitic ants are heavily defended, and the protagonist never finds a chance to scratch his tongue.

But as the night came, he had a new plan.

Tether "Blackie" to a safe leaf tent and feed her a portion of food, and the protagonist eats another egg.

Although there was still pain in the mouth, the soreness in the body had disappeared and did not affect the movement.

The protagonist leaves the leaf tent, climbs down the tree, hisses through the grass in a field of cicadas, and arrives at the outskirts of [Bread City].

At night, the parasitic ants no longer roam around, but all retreat back into their nests, and the protagonist still looks cautiously at the empty ground around him, alert for an enemy to suddenly pop up.

However, no enemies appear, and the protagonist grips the obsidian knife in his right forelimb and slowly approaches the blast in the round loaf hill.

The ground is full of rubble and soil particles splashed by the previous explosion, and the parasitic ants have not cleaned up, so the protagonist walks through these large maze of obstacles as large as red dates and small as mung beans, but fortunately, the maze is not complicated, and he soon arrives at the entrance of the cave.

The entrance to the blast hole is so large that it can almost fit a basketball, and it is so dark that the protagonist stands at the entrance as small as if he were standing next to a crater.

It's pitch black inside, and the protagonist can only vaguely see a mess below, but there is no parasitic ant activity.

Also, such a big hole, the ventilation is very strong, and there is no difference between the inside and the outdoors, and the parasitic ants obviously will not be stationed here.

Descending the slope of sloping blast residue of the muck, the protagonist soon reaches the bottom, surrounded by several holes, apparently the passages of the original ant nest, which are now exposed.

Without thinking too much about it, the protagonist relied on his memory and analysis of the terrain to find a relatively remote road and get into it.

He's here to scratch his tongue, not to wreak havoc, so there's no need to go to the central area where the ant population is dense, just search around.

The passage is still dark, and after a short walk, the protagonist only sees the withered corpses of fluorescent bacteria on the walls, apparently the parasitic ants are not caring for or replacing these fluorescent bacteria.

This makes the protagonist a little strange, judging from previous experience, parasitic ants can inherit the host's original skills, such as parasitic flying knights can still control mounts. There is no reason why parasitic ants can't plant such a simple thing as transplanting parasitic fungi. Don't they need a light source?

Although he was puzzled, the environment of the glimmer was not an obstacle for the protagonist anyway, and he continued to grope forward.

From time to time, the protagonist will stick their antennae to the ground or wall to listen for the vibrations of other ants as they pass by, so that they can detect the target from a distance.

may be due to the fact that the location is indeed relatively remote, and the protagonist has been looking for a while and finally notices the movement.

A T-shaped intersection appears in front of him, and the protagonist perceives movement in the passage on the left from his antennae, and he cautiously only pops his head out, and retracts after a quick glance left and right.

Fine, did not alarm the enemy.

The protagonist glanced at it in a hurry just now, and he could already see clearly that there was a parasitic ant licking its body for cleaning in the direction of the left turn, with its back to him.

And there are no ants on the other side.

A great opportunity, in order to avoid long nights and dreams, the protagonist decides to start immediately.

With as gentle a footstep as possible, the protagonist slowly turns the corner and approaches the parasitic ant, which is still facing away from him.

The parasitic ant was unaware, it was licking the arthropods carefully, little by little, and now it was the forelimbs that were being licked, the forelimbs were raised to the front of the mouth, and the large tough jaws and the attachments in front of the mouthparts moved like a smart brush.

Suddenly, the arthropods hung down weakly, and the mouthparts opened wide, as if they had been greatly stimulated!

The parasitic ant's head leaves its limp body, and the protagonist pulls the head up with its left foreleg by tugging at its antennae, while its right forelimb grips a blood-dripping obsidian knife.

One blow to decapitate, but the parasitic ant is not dead, at least the brain in the skull is still alive.

The protagonist dodges the large jaws that open and close, and uses his tentacles to stick to the other's antennae. Before the parasitic ant dies, he needs to read the information as soon as possible.

The parasitic ant's memory is rapidly draining along with the vitality of the parasitic ant, but the protagonist still finds the answer he wants quickly and accurately.

So that's it! The protagonist looks into the depths of the lair, as if he can see through the opaque walls!
