Chapter Ninety-Eight: Silent Poignant
Most of the children at Jack's Manor are orphans, but some are not.
They have been abused, trafficked, or abandoned by their parents due to a disability.
These various reasons allow them to experience things that ordinary children have never experienced, and they also make them understand the cruelty of this world early and become mature early.
So they are different from ordinary children, most of them are already broken, both physically and mentally.
These children have all been abandoned, abandoned in no-man's corners.
It was Jack who brought them back, smiling and extending his hand to them when he met them.
In the eyes of the children, Jack's Manor and the City of Fog are different.
The fog in the City of Fog is enough to make everyone in it feel like the world is a blur.
And everything in Jack's Manor is clearly visible, because everything is close at hand, warm beds, delicious food, brothers and sisters lying next to him when they fall asleep, and Jack's warm goodnight.
All people and things were so close that things that were once so far away from them became so palpable for the first time.
If Jack's Manor is a dream in this cold world, no child wants to wake up, and they want to sleep like this for a long time.
The first child to be adopted by Jack is called Claude, and he can't remember where he came from, because for as long as he can remember, he has been living on the streets of the City of Fog, rummaging through garbage.
He couldn't remember his parents, he couldn't remember his hometown, he couldn't remember where he came from, but he always remembered one thing.
It was one night and he was sitting next to a trash can on Third Avenue eating a loaf of bread that had been thrown away.
A man stood in front of him, and he looked up and saw a smile, a smile that no one had ever shown him before, gentle, full of kindness.
He met Jack that night, and he remembered that day because he thought of it as his new life.
Claude loved to read, and Jack bought him a lot of books, even enough to fill a small library, and his room was full of bookshelves and books.
Jack once told Claude that he would send him to the best school if he wanted to.
But Claude just shook his head, he wanted to stay in this house.
Aside from reading, Claude's favorite thing to do is to share his books with his younger siblings.
Although these little ones are always playful and make a mess of his study, he never gets angry because he is their older brother.
······
Emma is the first disabled child adopted by Jack, she is a chestnut haired girl with some tiny freckles on her face, which makes her look cute.
But she has no feet and is confined to a wheelchair all year round, so she can't play with her siblings.
In the beginning, she would always sit quietly alone, looking at other children in a daze.
One day, she used her courage and made a request to Jack that she wanted to learn piano.
She was so apprehensive at the time, because Jack had given her so much that she was ashamed of her extravagance.
But Jack didn't refuse her, and in Emma's incredulous gaze, he bought her the best piano and hired the best piano teacher.
From that day on, the sound of the piano could always be heard in Jack's Manor, from stumbling to melodious.
Jack would always say that Emma played the piano better than any pianist he had ever heard, that he loved to drink coffee and listen to Emma play, and that Emma was happiest playing music for Jack and her family.
Every time she pressed the keys and looked at the smiles of her family, she would feel extremely happy, the kind of happiness that she couldn't help but cry.
······
Joseph loved to draw, and he painted many of them, including Claude reading under the tree, Emma at the piano, Lily holding a doll, and Jack drinking coffee. His paintings are always very realistic, because every time, he will meticulously draw every detail without the slightest mistake. He cherished everything in front of him so much that he wanted to remember it with his own paintings.
Joanna loves to dance, her dance is the most beautiful and elegant, Jack once gave her an evening dress, every festival, family party, Joanna will wear that dress to dance with Jack.
That dress was her most precious thing, and every time she wore it, she would carefully retract it into the gift box, even her younger siblings could not touch it.
Ander loves to play football and adventure, he is a restless child, and if something goes wrong at home, he basically does it.
Anna is Ender's sister, and they used to wander together, so it is the same now, and she likes to follow Ender the most, although this quiet and weak little girl is always made to cry by the clumsy Ender.
Phils is a precocious little guy.
Mona's favorite swing is the most.
······
It's a whole home, and in this white manor, it's just that it's made up of broken people.
······
In front of the window, the children looked out and froze.
"Bang!"
With a loud bang, Jack's body was like a rag, and he was knocked out by the black figure, knocking down the gate of the manor and falling into the grass of the courtyard.
He simply had no room for resistance.
Originally, this blow was enough for Jack to kill him directly, but at the last moment, Jack blocked Chu's fist with the short knife on his chest.
But even so, the bones in his chest were completely shattered, and he could feel it, and his consciousness was starting to go gross.
He couldn't be Hatsu's opponent at all, he was going to die, he knew it.
But he was not afraid of death, and he was prepared to die from the first day he became a killer. He just regretted that he was going to die where he least wanted to die.
Jack raised his eyes and saw the children in the manor looking at him through the window.
"Ahem. ”
He coughed heavily, the blood he coughed up stained the clothes on his chest red, with shattered entrails.
At first stepped through the collapsed door and walked to Jack's side. She raised her hand, and in her hand, the black evil gradually condensed into a long knife.
"No one will be hurt except me, will they?" asked Jack's gray eyes, but he still used all his strength to ask Hatsu.
There was a hint of pleading in his tone.
"No, it won't. Chu replied lightly, stood in front of Jack, and raised the long knife.
The sun is dazzling, and in the sunlight, the black figure appears even more dazzling.
Jack fell to the ground weakly, blood dripping from the corners of his mouth, consciousness gradually detaching from his body.
It is said that in the last seconds before death, a person looks back on his life.
And Jack found that in the end of his life, all he could think about was the peaceful afternoons he spent with his children, and there was nothing else to look back on in his life.
"You say you want to take away my sins, but what are my sins?"
Falling to the ground, Jack softly asked his last question, for his own sinful life.
In this city with no rules, he is just surviving in his own way, even if his way is despicable.
In front of him, Hatsu's hand paused, silent, and could not give an answer.
"I'm sorry, I forgot. Jack looked at Chu, the look in his eyes was gloomy, and the corners of his mouth pulled out a wry smile, which did not mean anything else, only bitterness.
"You seem to be just like me, you're just a murderer······"
"Poof!"
The long knife in Hatsu's hand fell, piercing Jack's heart.
Under the watchful eyes of the children, she killed their hopes in a pool of blood.
Blood flowed out, over the green grass, and seeped into the dirt.
After a long time, Chu raised his head and looked at the children in the manor.
She could see the tears of despair streaming from their dull eyes.
Everything was silent, no one cried, no one begged for mercy, no one wailed.
But the silent silence was so poignant that it tore at everyone's heart.
When he drew his knife, the blade dripping with blood. Without saying a word, she turned around and walked away slowly.
From this beauty that was destroyed by her.
