Part 4 Across the Fog and the Mountains and the Sea 18 Harsh Laws
18 Draconian laws
After learning that Parrett was from the Dragonon Empire, Milo and Erin were incredible, they quickly recalled all the information related to Parrret, and indeed did not hear him personally say his nationality, everyone's impression that he was from the Obey Empire was basically preconceived, coupled with Parrett's tall, strong and powerful figure, it is indeed easy to be misunderstood. Thinking about it this way, the two also felt that this was a reasonable thing.
"Let's rest early, and continue our journey early tomorrow morning." Klan beckoned to Erin, "Come, let's go check on the condition of the guest room." β
Erin and Koran went straight to the guest room, and on the way Erin said softly, "It's good that you asked, Koran, otherwise Milo would have to worry all night...... Huh? Don't you already know he's not an Obei? β
"Well, I guessed a little. You see that he sailed so far in a small boat to meet us, and his rowing skills must have been very strong, and very much in line with the characteristics of the people of Dragon; And he wasn't familiar with horses, and he admitted that he couldn't tame a fierce horse, so I guess he might not be a native of Obe, but more like a Dragon or an island nation. β
"Uh-huh, that seems to be." Erin also suddenly realized.
Before the two entered the room, they could still hear the voices of Milo and Parrett: "You're from Dragon, why haven't I heard you say it?" β
"I didn't say that...... That's because no one has asked me, and besides, is it important to say which country is important in Windwalk? Everybody is from all over the world......" Parrett's words revealed innocence.
"Aren't you an Aube soldier? When I first met you, what kind of coastal infantry regiment did you say? And say 'Obey is with you'? Can you not make people think you're an Aube? β
"It was the time of the Djinn crisis, I happened to be in Obei, the army was all temporary conscription, and I couldn't go home, so I joined them."
β¦β¦
Erin was afraid that the two would quarrel, but Klan thought it was just a normal exchange between men.
The room was comfortable, the dinner was sumptuous, the soldiers stationed were friendly, and the four spent a peaceful and quiet night.
At dawn on April 27, the white of the fish belly had just emerged in the east, and the group had already woken up and prepared to go. After carefully inspecting the horse's feed, and after confirming that it was of the highest quality, she left a few gold coins for the stables at the inn.
Before leaving, Milo casually looked at the sign of the inn, and found that there was a wanted document for himself and Erin posted on it, but it was just a simple text notice, without a detailed description of his appearance, let alone a portrait of the person. A group of soldiers passed by Milo, but they didn't find out that he was a wanted man, which shows how pale the wanted warrant was in the Aube Empire.
"But it's better to keep a low profile and not attract attention." Later, Milo tells the other three, and Parrett tells him not to worry, as the Obie Empire rarely takes other countries' wanted warrants seriously.
The morning sun had just sprinkled over the earth, and the carriage set off. For a whole day, the scenery along the way was still the same vast grassland as before. The carriage was galloping, Milo and Parrett took turns driving, but the two horses were always galloping without showing fatigue, it was indeed a BMW, with a veritable "horsepower", no wonder Klan cherished it so much. As the road began to enter the hinterland of the Aube Empire, more villages appeared along the way, each larger than the other, but the cities were not seen.
"A few days further on, you'll come across a big city." Parrett looked at the map and said that Melo was driving the carriage on the side. Putting away the map, Parrett took out another booklet, and Melo glanced at it and saw that the booklet was a book on how to identify horses, which must have been bought at the inn - the purpose was too obvious, in order to have a common topic with Kolan.
"You, you, what a ......," Milo sighed helplessly, but she also admired Parrett's perseverance.
The carriage continued on its way, hardly stopping, until the sun went down, and the two horses showed no sign of slowing down. At this time, I happened to come across a village, so I rested here.
Kolan checked the map, measured the distance between the post station and the village, and was pleasantly surprised to find that the horse-drawn carriage had more than doubled the expected distance throughout the day!
"At this rate, our trip can end early." Klan said to the others, "It's a great thank you to Parrett for buying such a good horse!" β
"Hehe...... "Parrett smiled a little shyly, "this horse is really fast, and it deserves to be a thoroughbred in the Lyku Heights." β
"Oops!" Kelan couldn't help but exclaim, "You already know the types of these horses?" β
"Oh...... Learned, learned, just learned. Parrett embarrassedly pulled out the pamphlet.
"You too...... I don't even know what to say. Klan said with some joy and helplessness, she really didn't expect Parrett to do this, "So, when you get to Alex City, I invite you to watch the stage show." β
"Really, really?!" Parrett was a little overwhelmed, he didn't expect such a return, and just as he wanted to confirm further, Milo and Erin interrupted their conversation-
"Parrett, hurry up and find a place to live, you should be familiar with this place."
β¦β¦
For the next ten days, the carriage carried the four men along the main road through most of the Aube Empire, and it was only two days away from the city of Alex that Koran had spoken. Milo and the others couldn't help but sigh at the vastness of the Aube Empire, it took them a few days to say goodbye to the grasslands, then a few more days to walk through the dense jungle, and at night to live in villages or inns, they deliberately avoided the towns, afraid of revealing their identities in densely populated places, although this possibility was very small, but they were careful to sail the ship of ten thousand years.
Along the way, the four of them occasionally chatted, mostly about the history, culture and specialties of the Aube Empire, and food. Kolan also introduced some things about the Principality of Komet - the country of mountains, the people are simple, the people are everywhere manors, farms, mines, life is comfortable, and the people live and work in peace and contentment......
The four people in the carriage were all very happy and comfortable, and the disappointing topics such as the curse of the stars and the sand spirit crisis had long been left behind, and the group fully enjoyed this rare happy time.
It was the afternoon of May 8, and the horse-drawn carriage was still speeding at high speed, and the main road was lined with large tracts of cultivated land, indicating that it was approaching the next city, Alex City.
"There's a post station right in front of us, and I'll rest there at night." Erin said after looking at the map.
"No, I can't." Klan in the car and Parrett outside the car said at the same time.
"Huh? Why not? "Erin is weird. Melo took the map, but didn't see anything wrong with it, so she looked forward to an explanation.
Kelan didn't respond, his expression solemn. Parrett told the truth: "The station was actually a military fortress. A small post station may be sloppy, but a military fortress should not be approached. β
"So it's a post town?" Milo said.
"Well, that's understandable." Kelan replied.
"But that doesn't make sense," Milo said, unfolding the map, "the location of this post city is in the inner area of the Aube Empire, not on the border, and there are no enemies around, so it doesn't make much sense to build here?" β
Erin looked at the map and added, "Was it built to solve the previous civil strife?" Milo nodded in agreement, but Parrett, who was beside her, shook her head.
"Look at the map," Parrett said, "and there's a place next to it called 'Lyku Heights.'" β
After Milo confirmed, she handed the map to Erin in the car, who also saw the name.
Parrett continued: "It was the 'holy land' of the Aube Empire, and even the natives were restricted from entering, let alone outsiders. β
"Is it because of this good horse?" Erin remembers Parrett calling these two good horses "Luku Heights thoroughbreds".
"Erin," Kran interrupted her questioning, her expression serious, "remember the name Haus Lucu?" Wind Chimes remembered that King Lane had mentioned it. β
"Remember, that 'holy place' is where he was born, right?"
"On the contrary, that's where he committed suicide."
Outsiders will never be able to appreciate what Haus Lycu means to the Aube Empire, who was once the king of Aube and is still the nominal supreme ruler of the Aube Empire, even if he has long since committed suicide.
Although their age is not verifiable, it is certain that Haus Lucquer and Albert Royer were from the same period. During the Battle of the Black Gate, House inherited the throne of the Kingdom of Aube, which at that time could only be regarded as a small city-state.
Originally based on agriculture, animal husbandry and pottery, Aube was squeezed by many neighboring countries and was hit by the war. People of insight immediately took action and set off reforms again and again, striving to make Obey strong. When House ascended the throne, a massive revolution swept the country.
House enacted draconian laws for the country, covering all areas of agriculture, industry, commerce, mining, fishing, education, recreation, etc., with detailed and clear legal provisions, such as the time to plant, the amount of water to be sprinkled, and the interval between seeds. He also stipulated that all domestic mineral resources should not be exploited, encouraged the acquisition of these minerals through foreign trade, and supported the plundering of other countries' resources through war and other means, but if the enemy country was captured by Obei, the minerals on the occupied land were also domestic resources and could not be exploited. The most important part of the law is civic education, which requires every Aube citizen to undergo brutal and painful military training in childhood, practicing martial arts, mounted archery, and other skills, so that every adult Obey is a well-trained warrior, which also laid the foundation for the vigorous expansion of the Aube Kingdom.
It took House three years to develop these laws and another three years to implement them one by one. These laws are as fair and strict as House himself, but they are also as harsh as impersonal. However, in order for the country to survive in troubled times, the people gradually accepted this law of "peace and prosperity in exchange for order", and just when the people thought that the country was starting to get on the right track, Haus Lukou left the palace. When he left, he made an oath with the people that the laws in force would not be changed until he returned, and that they would be strictly enforced regardless of which king ruled. Then he came to what was then the highest place in the territory of Obe and where horses were abundant, which today we call the Lyku Heights.
There, he committed suicide.
King Haus Lucu will never return to the palace, and the people of Aube will obey his laws forever and for all to this day, forever.
After listening to Kran's account, both Milo and Erin sighed at the determination and sacrifice of House Luku, who did not hesitate to commit suicide in exchange for the observance of the law for the sake of the development and growth of his country, and brought the kingdom of Aube from a small city-state to one of the three great empires today.
"So that post city is the guardian of the 'Holy Land'?" Mello asked.
"Of course. But there was nothing in that place, just a hill. Parrett replied.
Klan also added: "The body and mantle of Haus Lucu were buried at the time of his suicide, and history says that he left no relics or last words. And now we know from the memories of Wind Chimes that he was trying to weaken something to avoid the Curse of the Stars, and perhaps his suicide was also due to this. β
"To weaken what?" Erin asked.
"Hmm...... Dare to guessβ" Kelan pondered, and then said something astonishing:
"From what Albert Royer did, it can be inferred that House Lucu was trying to weaken his country."
In front of the carriage, you can vaguely see the post city......
