Chapter 649: The Legend of Yuwang, the Demon Lord Becomes a Buddha
According to Indian historical records, Emperor Ashoka killed all 99 of his brothers, leaving no corpses, crushing bones and ashes, and his methods were extremely cruel and did not drag the mud and water at all.
Although the struggle for justice has been like this since ancient times, and the outcome of the loser is usually more miserable, it is unique to kill all his brothers at once, and there are still so many of them, and their hearts are so ruthless.
It can be seen how terrifying Ashoka's character was at this time, in a sea of corpses and blood, in 269 BC, Ashoka officially held an enthronement ceremony and became the new monarch of the Mauryan Empire.
A ruthless character like Ashoka doesn't have to think about it, and he will definitely not stop conquering, and the facts have proved this.
Soon, he took aim at other Indian states that had not yet submitted.
From the second year of his ascension to the throne, Emperor Ashoka mobilized hundreds of thousands of troops to attack the remaining countries.
In the course of this series of conquests, Ashoka's army was brave and good at fighting, and it can be said that it was invincible and invincible.
After the victory, Ashoka's army went on a killing spree against the cities and civilians of the losers, enslaving and plundering them.
At first, the generals of the army were still a little scruples, because they didn't know what the king thought, and they didn't dare to be too presumptuous. After all, his character is well-known to passers-by for his moodiness, and he will be beheaded and killed if he is not happy.
But after the news of the burning, killing and looting reached the ears of Emperor Ashoka, the eldest brother was so good that he raised his head and pretended not to see. The generals are happy, it seems that the boss doesn't care, so what are you waiting for? Kill! Grab it!
As a result, incidents such as the massacre of cities emerged one after another, and countless ordinary people died in their homes, with rivers of blood flowing and corpses all over the field, and even killing people for fun were not uncommon, which can be called tragic.
In 261 B.C., there was a kingdom of Kalinga in the east, backed by the sea, and the country was prosperous and powerful.
Emperor Ashoka had coveted him for a long time, and he took the lead and won a great victory. In this war of annihilation, 150,000 people were captured, 100,000 were killed, and 100,000 were killed and wounded.
After this battle, all of India was unified except for Mysore. Under Ashoka's frenzied expansion, the Mauryan Empire built a vast empire nearly twice the size of present-day India.
The Mauryan Empire also reached its peak during this period.
Ashoka was ruthless and an outstanding military strategist. But the ancients said: "There is much help for the righteous, but little help for the unjust", everything is inseparable from a single word. You kill people everywhere and set fires, and the people will not obey you even if they are vassals.
In addition, Ashoka's ferocity is not only reflected in the war, but also the rule of non-war areas is also very harsh, with all kinds of heavy taxes, torture, and punishment. So during his reign, the uprisings across India were like sparks.
You know, Ashoka is dripping with blood and stepping on the throne of countless brothers' corpses, can he let these poor people revolt? Countering violence with violence has become his most effective means.
The word hell itself makes people panic, and folklore is full of knives, mountains, fires, boiling oil pots, and the like.
Emperor Ashoka is a good thing, he set aside a special place within the border, and named it Hell. and selected a group of vicious men to serve as jailers and wardens.
Hell also brought together all the harsh criminal laws of the time, so to speak, as a torture camp. Then all the people who were caught making trouble in the country and the criminals were brought to this place, and they were made to suffer a lot, and in the end they all died.
Master Xuanzang recorded a story in his "Records of the Western Regions of the Tang Dynasty", saying that it was a sand gate, and one day in the process of turning into a fate, because he didn't know the way, he went to the side of hell, and begged from the jailer.
When the jailer saw it, he thought that everyone else was avoiding us, for fear of seeing me, and today someone came to the door. Since you're here, don't go. So he took the samon in.
After seeing the horrific conditions in hell, the shaman was terrified and had to recite Buddhist scriptures to calm his mind.
At this time, a prisoner happened to be brought in, and as a result, these jailers were very skillful in chopping the man's hands and feet, and dismantling him in eight pieces, and in a short time, the whole person was torn apart.
Seeing this situation, that Shamen was even more frightened, sad, mourning, and so on.
In the midst of all kinds of sorrow and even despair, he suddenly understood the impermanence of the world, understood the illusion of life and death, and finally comprehended the arhat fruit.
The shaman was given the fruit position, but the jailer did not know it. Just say to him, "Okay, don't look at it, it's your turn!" Let you taste the taste of the oil pot......"
Since Nashamen has attained the status of an arhat, he doesn't care about life and death at all, and I don't care whether you up or cook me. So he obediently jumped into the oil pot.
The result? Instead of crying and howling as a scald, this Shamen, who had attained the fruit, sat very calmly in the oil pot, as if he were sitting in a pond, and a huge lotus flower appeared in fright to hold him up.
The jailer was taken aback and rushed to report to the warden. The prison warden was also stupid when he saw this, and said in his heart that I am an oil pot, but it is not a soilless cultivation, how can it still grow a lotus? What's going on?!
The warden thought about it and felt that it was wrong, so he quickly reported it to Ashoka. Said the king, go and take a look, meet a fairy, use the oil pot as a bathhouse!
When Ashoka heard this, there is still such a thing, look at it! When he saw this shaman, Ashoka was also stunned. I saw the oil flowers churning, and this Shamen sat in the oil pot, looking serene, not angry and arrogant.
Emperor Ashoka couldn't help but praise from the bottom of his heart, this is really a true cultivator who has attained enlightenment, and he is really blessed by divine power! From the heart, the monarch of the Mauryan Dynasty actually knelt on the ground uncontrollably, expressing his respect and respect.
Shamen in the oil pot sighed and nodded: "Put down the butcher's knife and become a Buddha on the spot!" He ignited Ashoka on the spot and ordered him to take refuge in Buddhism and not to kill again.
The epiphany of Ashoka ordered the hell to be demolished overnight, and all the prisoners inside were re-examined according to the severity of the crime, and it was not allowed to kill them all.
He then also built a stupa not far from the abandoned hell and enshrined the relics of the Buddha to dissolve his sins.
I don't know if Ashoka was inspired by seeing the enlightened Shaman, or if he felt tired and repentant after decades of conquest and slaughter, and in a short period of time, the whole person changed.
He declared that he would no longer take the initiative to wage war, even if it was a last resort, to minimize casualties, and at the same time restrain his army and resolutely prohibit the recurrence of incidents such as the massacre of cities.
At the same time, he also officially announced to the whole country that he had converted to Buddhism and made Buddhism the state religion, and no one should kill innocents indiscriminately in the future.
