Chapter 176: Throwing Mandrakes
Since Hogwarts opened, Albert's school life was back on track.
He no longer stays up late every day, goes to bed on time, and wakes up at seven in the morning.
On rainy days, I occasionally lie in bed and am lazy.
Yesterday, the weather finally cleared, and this morning it actually started to rain again. Well, he's definitely not making excuses for his bed.
At eight o'clock in the morning, Albert went downstairs with his roommates for dinner. The Gryffindor's long table was already lined with a large amount of oatmeal, pickled herring, sliced bread, and plates of golden fried eggs and fried bacon.
The pickled herring has not been fermented, and after being fried in a pan, the meat is hard and a little salty, which is suitable for oatmeal.
Of course, the premise is that no sugar or milk is added to the oatmeal.
"Good morning. Have you heard about Defence Against the Dark Arts?" Angelina picked up a bowl of oatmeal with milk and sat down in the chair across from Albert.
The topic quickly aroused the interest of the surrounding students, and Defense Against the Dark Arts class has always been a popular subject at Hogwarts.
"What's the matter?" Albert asked.
"According to the Ravenclaw students, our first lesson was learning how to deal with the Boggart. "Angelina is adding sugar to the oatmeal.
"You mean Roger, I heard that too, and he's still bragging about how he dealt with Boggart. George pouted disdainfully, "As we all know, Boggart is basically not a threat, and the worst case scenario is to be taken aback." β
"The Boggart will become a creature that other people fear, and it is said that when there are more people, it doesn't know what to become. Albert thought back to what it seemed like it was in Potter's third year that Lupin talked about how to deal with Boggart. However, considering that Lockhart didn't use "Dark Forces: A Guide to Self-Defense" all semester, it's not hard to guess that he is falling behind.
"I'm suddenly looking forward to what I'm afraid of?" Albert said, taking a bite of his homemade salted fish sandwich, thinking about what he would be afraid of.
"Failed the exam?" said Shanna, raising an eyebrow.
"I don't think he's ever worried about that. Lee Jordan took a bite of bread and slurred his words, "I think it's because I don't have money, that is, I become a poor ghost, well, that's right, I become a poor ghost." β
"I'm a lover of money, yes, but I've never been afraid of being poor. Albert said angrily, after all, it is easy to become a wizard and have a system, and want to make some money.
"I think it's because I don't have any books to read, or because I've become an ordinary person. Without thinking, Fred said, "I'll bet on a Nat." β
"Then you're going to lose. Albert smiled and spread his hands at Fred, "A Nat, who else wants to bet?"
Fred slapped Albert's hand away and complained dissatisfiedly, "I haven't lost yet." β
"No, you're going to lose. Albert said with a smile. "After all, what am I afraid of, how could I not know?"
"You're cheating?" Fred faked in shock, causing everyone to laugh.
"I think it's a busy job. George said: "After all, Albert is more comfortable than anyone else, and he definitely doesn't want to be busy with work in the future." β
"This ......" Albert touched his chin and shook his head in denial: "If I were rich, I wouldn't have to work, and I wouldn't have to worry about busy work." Why do most people work, not for money? There are very few people who work with interest. β
"So...... George, Nat brought it. Fred said with a smile.
"Ahem, then again, when are we going to have a Defence Against the Dark Arts class?" George coughed dryly, changing the subject.
"Don't change the subject. Fred dissatisfied.
"I didn't say I wanted to gamble. George protested, "You misunderstood." β
"How could we be misunderstood, we are twin brothers, what are you thinking, do I not know?"
"The first session of the afternoon was Defence Against the Dark Arts class. Angelina pulled out the class schedule from her school bag, "However, I'm a little worried that this professor will be teaching soon." β
"That's for sure, the smarter professor quit himself before he could finish the Defence Against the Dark Arts class. "Nobody wants to be cursed and bring themselves a bunch of bad luck." β
"What the hell is this curse all about?" asked Shanna, curious. "You know what?"
"You want to know?" Albert gave a wicked smile, "I've heard some rumors. β
"Say, don't sell it. Angelina urged.
"I heard that it is related to the mysterious man. Albert whispered.
"The mystery man cursed the position. Everyone's eyes widened in surprise, "You can't talk nonsense about this kind of thing." β
"How do you know. Li Jordan asked curiously.
"It's all rumors. Albert pretended to be mysterious and said, "There are still many rumors about the mysterious man, do you want to hear it?"
"Say it. Fred was also curious, he knew that Albert had a wide range of friends, and it was not surprising that he would know a lot of messy things.
"Well, you don't want to spread the word. Albert pretended to be mysterious:
"Rumor has it that the mysterious man stole the Ravenclaw crown. β
"The mysterious man is rumored to be able to communicate with snakes, and he is a Slytherin great-great-great-great...... Grandson. β
"It is rumored that the mysterious man is immortal. β
"Rumor has it that the mysterious man once opened the secret room. β
"The Mystery Man is rumored to have been the president of the Slytherin Student Council. β
"It is rumored that the mysterious man was once expected to sit in the position of Minister of Magic. β
"Rumored ......"
"It feels like the more you talk about it, the more outrageous it becomes. Shanna interrupted, "Let's go, don't be late, the morning herb class is with the Hufflepuff students." β
"Fifteen minutes is enough. Without thinking, Fred said, "We can still play wizard cards." β
While Albert watched the two play cards, Charlie walked towards this direction and specifically advised, "Quidditch auditions are going to take place this afternoon, don't forget." β
"Got it. Everyone said in unison.
Charlie said hello to everyone and hurried away.
"You haven't bought a broomstick yet, have you?" the Weasley brothers looked at Albert.
"Even ordering wasn't that fast. Albert spread his hands helplessly.
After Fred and Lee Jordan played another game of wizarding cards, they went to the greenhouse together. Their time was just right, and Professor Sprout was opening the door to the greenhouse. As for the Hufflepuff students who arrived before them, it rained outside the greenhouse for a while.
Albert and the others followed the crowd into the greenhouse.
"I'm going to repot the mandrake today. Professor Sprout brought a large cardboard box containing more than two dozen pairs of earmuffs of different colors, and she looked around and asked, "Who knows why we need these earmuffs?"
"Hearing the cries of a mandrake kills people. Seeing that no one answered, Albert took the initiative to speak, "Of course, young mandrakes will only make people unconscious for a few hours. βγ
"Very good, Gryffindor plus five points. Professor Sprout nodded in satisfaction and continued, "Now, who can tell me about the properties of the mandrake?"
She swept towards the students in the greenhouse, and finally landed on Albert.
"Mandrake, also known as mandrake root, is a powerful restorative," Albert simply recited from the textbook, "and is used to restore a person who has been transformed or who has been enchanted to its original state." It is also an important part of configuring most antidotes. Of course, mandrakes are dangerous, and it is said that a wizard once used mandrakes to defend against dark wizards who invaded his yard, because he threw out mature mandrakes, which directly caused the dark wizard to die on the spot. β
"Exactly, plus ten points. As Mr. Anderson said, the mandrake is dangerous and its sound can be deadly. Seeing the uneasiness, Professor Sprout comforted, "Of course, our mandrake here is still very small, and we will be in a coma for a few hours at most when we hear its cry. β
"Did you eat the book in your stomach? Lee Jordan joked that he sometimes envied Albert's mind.
"You actually saw it. Albert pretended to be surprised and said, "Well, would you like to try it?" β
"No, thank you, I don't have as good an appetite as you. He said angrily.
The twin brothers were snickering next to him.
"Alright, everybody come over and get a pair of earmuffs. Professor Sprout said to everyone.
Everyone flocked to Professor Sprout's position, and Lee Jordan helped Albert grab a gray earmuff.
Albert took the earmuffs and said thank you.
"Now, I suddenly understand why Professor Sprout's card effect is to throw mandrakes at enemies. Li Jordan muttered in a low voice, "However, your effect should be changed, maybe it should be more appropriate to kill the whole audience directly after the appearance." β
"You're ruining the balance of the game. Albert couldn't help but roll his eyes.
"When I tell you to put on the earmuffs, you must cover your ears tightly, and I don't want anyone to faint because they don't wear the earmuffs properly. Professor Sprout said, giving two thumbs up, and continued, "When it's safe to remove the earmuffs, I'll give them two thumbs up, like this." β
"These green and purple plants in front of you are mandrake seedlings, and your task is to repot them. She pointed to a row of deep-bottomed plates and said, "All rightβnow put on the earmuffs." β
After Albert put on the earmuffs, the outside sound was inaudible.
"I don't know if there are tape recorders in the wizarding world. Albert looked at the mandrake seedlings in front of him and muttered in his heart, "If you can store the sound of the mandrake, it will definitely be an invisible killing weapon, more effective than a stun bomb." β
In the wizarding world, there may be people who guard against wizards with wands, but absolutely no one cares if you have a grenade.
Of course, no one cares if you're holding a tape recorder.
"Why don't you ask somehow. β
Professor Sprout had already put on his earmuffs, rolled up his sleeves, grasped the leaves of the mandrake firmly, and pulled it out of the basin with all his might.
Screams rang out in the classroom.
Of course, because they were all wearing earmuffs, no one heard anyone scream.
Instead of a beet-like grass root, it was a baby with light green skin that Professor Sprout was pulling at the leaves of its head.
As soon as the little guy was pulled out, he shouted at the top of his lungs.
Now, everyone knows what Albert said about the "cry" of the mandrake.
Professor Sprout brought a larger pot, shoved the mandrake into it, and quickly buried it with damp compost and dirt, leaving only the leaves exposed.
She patted the mud off her hands, gave everyone a thumbs up, and removed her ear tips.
"Again, I make sure to wear earmuffs later. Professor Sprout reminded loudly, "I don't think you want to miss this class, in groups of four β there are plenty of big pots over here β composted in bags over there." β
Of course, Albert was a group of four, and after everyone had put on the earmuffs, Professor Sprout signaled that everyone could begin.
Pulling mandrakes out of the soil is a physical task, and it is not as easy as Professor Sprout's work.
It's harder than pulling turnips in the field, and the mandrakes don't want to be pulled out of the soil.
Li Jordan wasted a lot of effort but couldn't succeed, and in the end it was Fred who pulled it out, and the worst thing was that this guy didn't want to go back after he came out, twisting his body, kicking his feet wildly, waving his little fists, as if he didn't want to be stuffed into a coffin.
"It's funny, isn't it?" Fred laughed and poked his finger at the mandrake's cheek, only to be bitten on the finger.
Luckily, he wears a dragonskin glove.
George couldn't help but laugh when he saw this.
Lee Jordan wasn't smiling, he was struggling with the mandrake that was blocking the mouth of the basin with his feet and didn't want to be stuffed into the basin.
As for Albert, he directly used violent means to shove the mandrake into the pot, and quickly buried it with damp soil and compost, successfully completing the first repot.
