Chapter 21: I (3)
Just like I thought.
Guns, money, night, and fireworks, these things can blind people's eyes, but when the sun rises again, people are blinded by something else.
And the city, like a bad stuccoster, layer by layer, covers people's hearts with repetitive colors, and what it really looks like has long been forgotten.
Either way, the madness was over, the police evacuated the crowd, many of the people involved in the shootings and bank robberies were arrested, the chaotic streets were cleared, the avenues were fenced off with makeshift guardrails, and the police station and Wayne Building began to be rebuilt.
All of this happened in a matter of days. The whole city was restored to its original state, and no one really went crazy because of the night's revelry, in fact, it was as if it had never happened.
Oh no, it seems that there is a man who has gone crazy, and it is said that it is a madman who likes to violently enforce the law at night, wearing a black cloak, flying around the roof.
But I don't have the heart to focus on the crazy people, I want to focus on my new job.
A circus handyman.
Actually, I was looking for a more suitable job, such as a salesperson, or a position in the parking lot, but I couldn't help it, because of the early payment of rent, the family had no money, and I could only use this daily settlement job to maintain the food supply, at this time, I couldn't let Jenny go hungry.
And the work in the circus is really terrible.
First of all, there are really horses there, and besides, horses as you can imagine, and the circus people are definitely not going to let those dung eggs wrapped in blades of grass pile on the ground, well, and then it's my job, I have to shovel those foul-smelling grass balls into a sack and throw them far, far away, and I can only carry them with my hands along the way, trying not to let the stuff that flows out of it rub against me
So, it's ridiculous that I'm pulling something out of a horse's ass in exchange for my bread.
"It's ridiculous."
That's one of the things I've been saying most lately, because, in addition to shoveling horse manure, I have to tell jokes to the circus watchers so that the show doesn't have to be cold, and at the end of every joke I've never laughed at all, I've always added this phrase to prove that the passage I've just said is a joke and not my own gibberish.
I don't understand why those people still have the heart to watch the circus, just a few days ago, the city had just experienced a riot, had they all forgotten?
It's crazy.
But in any case, in addition to dealing with horse manure every day, I finally had a source of income, which made my life barely normal again.
And it was all the day before Jenny's birthday
It's over!
"You can't do that!" I said to the lean bastard in front of me, who was the head of the circus and the man who paid me every day.
"I'm sorry, but we can't hire you anymore."
"Why?" I asked, trying not to panic, "I cleaned up all that horse manure, oh, is it because of my jokes?" Well, I can learn a few more, I can go buy a book, or, I can paint my lips a little redder, and that will make me more like a clown Everybody loves clowns, you know. ”
"No, not because of that." The head of the squad interrupted me: "Our circus has no money to hire you anymore, in fact, we are almost out of business. ”
"No way, obviously there are still customers, okay, we don't have many customers, but I only need 4 cents a day"
"I'm sorry."
That was the last thing he said to me. Then he ignored me completely, and no matter what I tried, he ignored me.
At that time, I saw in his eyes a look similar to that of Mrs. Fili.
Eventually, I left, and as I walked out of the office, I saw our trainer outside the door, presumably he, like me, was leaving.
Well, fate played a joke on me again, and it made fun of me every once in a while, and unlike the last joke, this time I was finally a penniless pauper, and tomorrow was Jenny's birthday.
It was two o'clock in the afternoon, and I was wandering down the street, and I didn't dare to go home, because I didn't dare tell Jenny that we didn't have any income left, and that it would have to be delayed until after her birthday.
Before I knew it, I was walking to the door of a bar.
I could smell the smell of alcohol and vomit all over the floor, and I just stood there like a homeless child.
To be honest, alcohol is not good, I didn't like to drink since I was a child, but I really want to have a drink now.
Of course, I don't have any money, but I don't know what's wrong with my brain. It may have been a few days ago that crazy farce had taken root in my head, so I thought it wouldn't be a big deal even if I went in and had some drinks and then didn't pay for it. After all, I wasn't involved in the madness that day, so the city seemed to owe me a madness and just had some drinks.
And so, in a state of confusion, I walked into the bar.
And then
I'm drunk!
I don't know how long it took.
"Hahaha-"
I laughed, and so did the people next to me.
Because I told a joke that in the circus, it didn't amuse a person, but it had its effect here, and sure enough, wine was a good thing, at least it made me laugh at the moment.
So I asked for another drink.
The old TV in the corner was still playing the wanted notice for the girl who called herself Why Quinn, and I smiled and looked at the pictures on the screen
In a trance, I seemed to hear a voice calling me, and I turned around
Is that the girl on TV?!
Oh no, I drank a little too much, and the person who tapped me on the shoulder wasn't the girl at all, but a guy in a black trench coat.
"Hey, man, you've had a lot of drinks today." The man said.
"Haha-yes, I'll tell you the truth, I want to drink myself too much so that I won't feel so much pain when I get beaten up for not giving money."
"Hahaha - that's a good joke!"
"Of course," I should agree.
Suddenly, the laughter of the person on the other side stopped abruptly
"So if enough laughter, how about we talk about business, we know that we worked in a chemical factory some time ago, and you can make a lot of money by doing us a small favor, how about it?"
The man said to me with a smile.
I could only see the corners of his mouth curved upward, but his eyes were hidden in the shadow of the brim of his hat, and I couldn't really see it.
