Foreword

In 1948, the year before liberation, Comrade Xia Yan was the chief editor of the supplement "Tea Pavilion" of Huashang Daily.

Under his encouragement and supervision, I wrote down a reminiscence of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression in the Kuomintang-controlled area and published it in the newspaper day by day.

It is written that after the loss of Shanghai and Nanjing, they were ready to defend Great Wuhan and finally gave up on Great Wuhan.

Writing about the fire in Changsha, retreating to Guilin, and preparing to retreat to Chongqing, my residential life in ** is coming to an end.

It was the eve of the Huaihai Battle in November 1948, and I was leaving the liberated area.

So my memoir came to an end. "People's Literature" is willing to republish the memoirs of the Anti-Japanese War at this stage, and I have now sorted out the old manuscript and named it "Hongbo Song", so that it can meet readers again.

This is mainly based on my personal recollections, and is an incomplete reflection of the period of the War of Resistance Against Japan.

After reorganizing it again, I felt that it was good to write down the memories of this stage. If I hadn't written at that time, most of my memories would have disappeared completely ten years later.

Let the reader consider this as a historical material. May 9, 1958
