Chapter 10 Things change abruptly

When the Governor's assistant, Melson, returned to the council chamber with the gate guards on duty that day, Stephen's account was confirmed.

"So Stephen didn't lie about it." The Governor said, "Now declare that he is acquitted."

The guards next to him received the order and went to the prison to convey it.

"May I ask the Governor, can I bring back those 'Barus'?" Holder asked.

"Since it is something lost by the Empire, it should be returned to its original owner." The Governor spoke, and asked Merson's assistant to draw up a handover paperwork.

"May I ask Mr. Stephen if he can return the Broken Magic Stone to him?" Elena asked.

"Since it is lawful personal property, it naturally belongs to its owner." The Governor replied earnestly, and then motioned to Melson.

"Thank you."

After saying that, Elena and the others followed Assistant Melson to the storeroom with Mr. Holder.

"I wonder where the three young ladies plan to stay?" No sooner had he left the chamber of the Doge's Palace than Holder asked.

It's getting late, and it looks like the three of them will spend the night in Venice today.

"The Medici have a mansion near here, and I've asked Miriam to arrange it." Elena replied, "Why, Mr. Holder is still unfounded?"

"Uh......-huh," Holder scratched the back of his head with his hand, as if embarrassed, "Originally, the Governor had arranged for me to live. But, you know, I'm the one who hates officialdom the most. He's going to arrange some kind of banquet or something, and I don't want to attend."

Looking at Holder's distressed expression, Bella probably guessed what he meant.

"Why don't you let Mr. Holder come with us?" Bella said, "Elena, what do you think?"

"Is it really possible?" Holder was visibly happy, "Wouldn't Miss Medici be upset?"

"Who do you think I'm for?" Elena pursed her lips, "Although I personally don't like you, if you must come, the Medici family is not impossible to show the usual hospitality."

In Elena's language, this is already the meaning of agreement.

Everyone chatted and came to the treasury unconsciously.

Melson showed the guard at the gate the Governor's papers, and opened the iron door.

There are all kinds of stuff in it.

"Huh? Where did you go?" Melson said confusedly.

"What do you mean?" The guard asked.

"It's the evidence in Stephen's case." Melson said.

"Mr. Clifford came here just now, saying that there were still a few doubts in the case, and he wanted to re-investigate, so he took it." The guard replied.

"What? Clifford?" Melson couldn't help but frown, "When?"

"That's it...... Just an hour ago." The guards seemed to realize the gravity of the problem, and spoke in a visibly nervous tone.

"Quick, inform the Governor." Melson said, and ran out.

Mr. Holder followed suit.

"Is anything else still there?" Elena asked.

"Yes," replied the guard, "Mr. Clifford took only one bag of potions."

"Shall we help?" Bella asked.

"Probably not." Elena replied, "I think it's okay to leave the rest to them, after all, it's their own business, and we can't interfere."

From Elena's point of view, this was an internal Venice issue, and Mr. Holder was only involved in tracking the arms.

Now that the Demon Breaker Stone is safe and sound, there is no reason for them to be involved anymore.

"That's right." Bella felt that there was some truth in Elena's words.

And they probably won't be of much help.

"Since the Demon Breaker Stone is not lost, let Stephen and Tori bring it back to the outlet and send it to Florence tomorrow." Elena said, "It's been a busy day, and I haven't had a good rest."

It's rare to visit Venice, and I haven't been able to take the Carlos sisters to the fullest, so I run around for all kinds of things.

The three of them arrived at the Medici villa, where Miriam was already waiting at the door.

"Now that the dust has settled, we can have some fun tomorrow." Elena sat down on the couch with her ass slumped.

Although the villa is empty for most of the year, every once in a while, someone comes to clean it, so it doesn't feel stale at all.

Miriam simply set up the bedroom without much heavy work.

"Na...... I said Elena," Bella said suddenly, "Do you think there's something wrong with things?"

"Huh? What's the problem?" Elena asked, stretching her back.

"I remember Harriman said earlier that Stephen had been arrested on the first day he arrived in Venice, a week earlier. For such a long time, if the man named Clifford wanted to take the Balus, he had plenty of time. As a matter of common sense, the sooner the better. Why did you wait so long until Mr. Holder tracked him down and then rushed to the storeroom to pick it up?" Bella voiced her concerns.

"Could it be that something else is delaying?" Elena rubbed her brow bone, feeling a little overused lately.

"But what would be so important about such a dangerous thing that would make him postpone his action?"

"Is it possible that he couldn't come for a while?"

"It's hard to say." Bella fell into deep thought.

"There must be some special reason why he really can't get out of his body, unless he ......."

Bella suddenly thought of something.

"Unless what?"

"Unless, he's only getting the information today."

"What do you mean?"

"Is there a possibility that the man named Clifford had received the news of something else? In other words, he didn't know that things had entered the Doge's Palace. Or maybe he didn't even know about Stephen." Bella analyzed.

"You're saying that something went wrong with their information handover?"

"Hmm." Bella nodded, "That's just my guess, though."

"My dear Bella," Elena stood up, "but every one of your guesses is so accurate!"

"Huh?"

"I sometimes even wonder if you have the power of foreknowledge?" Elena quipped.

"Elena's exaggeration!" Bella's cheeks were slightly red, "I'm just making a slight inference based on the clues I got, and it's not necessarily accurate!"

"Anyway, when Mr. Holder comes, let's ask him, and maybe we'll have an answer?" Elena said, pulling Bella up and saying, "Let's go, let's go take a shower." Anna too, right?"

"Huh?" Anna took a bite of the cheese in her hand, which she had just asked for from Miriam, "I haven't finished it yet."

"I'll take you to experience the baths here." Elena said mysteriously, "You're going to love it."
