Phantom of the Castle Chapter 11: What Happened to the Duke
By the time the sun jumped above the sea again, Bella had already woken up early.
This morning, it didn't look any different.
If there must be anything special, it was that Elena came to Sister Carlos' room early in the morning.
Bella had just changed her clothes.
"Good morning!" Elena was as energetic as ever.
"Ah, good morning." Bella responded.
"Did you think of an answer last night?"
"What's the answer?"
"That's it, last night's question."
"Do you mean about the last castle lord?"
"Uh-huh!"
"I didn't think about it."
"Huh?" Elena looked surprised, "How did you sleep?"
"Just go to sleep as usual." Bella replied lightly.
Elena suddenly looked depressed, as if she had lost her purpose in life.
She had been annoyed for a while last night before she fell asleep.
Soon, though, Elena was up again.
By the time it was breakfast, she was fully rejuvenated.
This can't help but make Bella feel that she and her sister may be compared to each other.
Anyway, where did our lovely Anna go?
Mr. Ully was setting up the dishes for breakfast when he suddenly felt a small hand tugging at the back of his clothes.
"What's wrong? Little one?" The butler turned around and looked at the cute little girl in front of him.
"That...... Do you have an almond cake?" Anna said in a milky voice.
"You have to eat first."
"Woo......" Anna looked at him pitifully with wide, watery eyes.
"Alright," Yuri couldn't bear to refuse, "there's a little left in the kitchen, I'll let Mary bring it to you."
"Thank you." Anna instantly looked appreciative.
Breakfast started without a hitch.
"Eat first." Bella snatched the cake from Anna's hand, "I'll give it to you when I'm done."
"Hmph." Anna glared at her sister angrily, and had to obediently return to her seat.
Bella placed the cake on Elena's side and began to eat while thinking about her next plan.
"Hey, I said Bella." Alina quietly leaned in, "Did you notice that the Duke seems weird today?"
Bella looked at Elena in the opposite side of the table, Duke James, looking tired and sleepy.
"You don't seem to look good." Prince Holder asked.
"Well, don't mention it." The Duke replied with some irritation, "I went to the forest last night, and I got lost, and I didn't return here until after dawn this morning."
"It's a bit dangerous for you to go to the forest alone."
"That's not where the key is. I'll tell you—" The Duke stopped his knife and fork, turned around, and said very seriously, "I was going to search the neighborhood for any clues to the secret. As a result, as soon as I turned around, I couldn't find my way, and I couldn't find it no matter how I looked. I walked back and forth many times, but I couldn't find my way back. As a result, I had to wait and wait in the woods until the sun came up, and guess what? - Right behind you!"
"Right behind you?"
"That's right, the way back is just around us. And, in the morning sun, you can see the exterior of the castle. But at that time, I couldn't find it, it was like entering a labyrinth, and I kept spinning in circles."
"Huh? Really, really?" Alina poked her head in curiosity, too, and nearly knocked over the goblet on the table.
"It's true!" The Duke said firmly.
"Interesting." Mr. Holder seemed to be in the mood too.
"Ahh
"I don't know." Bella shook her head.
Listening to the duke's description, things should be true.
As for why—where is it so easy to know?
Enough has happened in the past two days, and Alina is still so positive, what a mess......
Wait, not necessarily, maybe—a new clue?
So, Bella suggested that everyone go over and have a look at it later.
Elena and Holder did the same.
He wanted to take Duke James with him, but he insisted on going back to his room to catch up on sleep.
So, the three of them had to follow the direction indicated by the duke and go out to explore on their own.
The forest behind Valdraz Castle, which joins the Teresian Mountains, covers the end of the spectrum.
As far as the eye can see, it is full of lofty mountains.
"I don't know when I can open up a truth in the mountains." Bella sighed.
"That's not easy!" "I've heard that the Theresian Mountains stretch for hundreds of miles, and that they are densely forested, with cliffs and ravines. If you want to cross this mountain, unless you have a very adequate guarantee, the average person will not dare to try it easily, let alone lay roads and build bridges."
"Mr. Holder knows a lot."
"Where, where, just did some homework before coming."
"Cut, I know something useless." Elena said dismissively.
Bella tugged at Aliana's sleeve, signaling that she was a little too much.
"I'm telling the truth." Alina remained unrelenting, "Unless, if you solve the Duke's puzzle, you may be able to prove that you are not so useless."
"Alina," Bella pulled Elena again, "Wouldn't that be too embarrassing, I don't have any clues."
"Okay, I'll accept the challenge." Holder said confidently, "And ask Miss Carlos to testify about it."
"Huh?" Bella was a little overwhelmed, "Why is it that even Mr. Holder is messing around?"
"Who's messing around?" Elena huffed and said, "Bella, I'm telling you, I'm here to make you see clearly, men are all rubbish!"
"Miss Carlos, I'm not fooling around, but trying to prove that men are not as useless as Miss Medici claims." Mr. Holder also said solemnly.
"This ......," Bella was torn between two sides.
To be honest, she really didn't want to wade into this muddy water.
She had no intention of changing Elena's character, but Mr. Holder seemed serious this time.
Now, it seems that it is impossible to mix it up.
"Okay." Bella said helplessly, "Those two will start the game, and whoever solves the problem of Duke James getting lost first will be the winner."
"If you lose," Alina pointed her fan at Holder's nose, "just bow down under Miss Ben's skirt, let Miss Ben stomp on it a few times, and shout three times that you're a piece of waste!"
"Elena—" Bella tried to stop her, "it's a bit too much." ,
"Miss Carlos need not worry," said Holder politely, "the men of the Habsburgs are not so useless. It's just—"
Holder said, looking at Elena, "What if Miss Medici loses?"
"Joke, I'm going to lose to you?" Elena was dismissive, "If Miss Ben loses, let it be disposed of."
Bella felt a strong smell of gunpowder.
I really shouldn't have let the two of them come together. It's good now, it's getting tense.
