The Paris Affair Chapter 10 Handkerchiefs (1)
Early that morning, Bella and Elena were playing chess in Madame Roland's salon.
Anna was drinking milk and eating breakfast on the side.
"Have you heard that the University of Paris has held several public classes recently?" Elena said, "It's like it's about the latest electrical development report or something."
"Didn't they give a lecture or something like that in the last six months?" Bella said, "What's there to be curious about?"
"That's the latest technological achievement of the Industrial Revolution!"
"What, are you still interested in science?" Bella teased, "How do I remember that you only like anecdotes and gossip?"
"Huh? Am I such an unstylish image in your mind?"
"Uh-huh." Bella nodded vigorously.
"I'm so sad!"
Elena showed an obvious expression of grievance, which made Bella very happy to watch.
"Keep grieving, and your queen will be gone!" Bella smiled and moved the car to the middle.
"It's too much," said Elena, unconvinced, "why don't you chase my king?"
"Now that he will not die, why chase it?"
"If you can't eat my king, will you bully my queen?"
"Your queen is so powerful, only she can bully others, how can anyone bully it?"
"But you didn't mobilize so many people to bully it?"
"It's because there are so many people that it's not called bullying, it's called cooperation."
"I don't care, you can't eat it!" Elena is about to start playing tricks.
Obviously he played cards so well, but he played chess in a mess, and he almost never won Bella.
Just then, Margaret arrived at the salon.
"Hey, three beauties, you're early!" Margaret greeted them warmly, "You all seem to be in a good mood."
"You're getting a lot better." Elena said.
"Of course, grandfather's puzzle is solved. And the weather is so nice today." Margaret said, "I haven't figured out what to do with what he's left behind, though."
Margaret's grandfather left her a villa on his deathbed, saying that it contained the treasure he had gotten back then.
With the help of Bella and Elena, she finally solves the mystery left by her grandfather and finds the treasure hidden in the villa.
Although it is a treasure, it is not really a treasure of gold and silver, but a large number of design drawings and technical data. This includes instructions on ship design, crop cultivation, metallurgy, and handicraft techniques.
Margaret's grandfather also left a letter. The letter basically meant that the Norwegian pirates realized that it was not a long-term solution to continue plundering, and that only by mastering real production techniques could they survive forever. Therefore, they recorded their knowledge in words and illustrations for the enlightenment of future generations.
"Only by creating it yourself can you get real wealth." Old Mr. Price concludes with this sentence.
"Although I understand my grandfather's reasoning, but with so much technical information, where can I use it now?" Margaret looked a little nerve-wracked.
"Anyway, it's Mr. Price's legacy, so maybe it will come in handy someday?" "Although science and technology are changing rapidly, there are also many practical methods and traditional skills that are gradually disappearing. Maybe one day, those illustrations and explanations drawn on paper will become important historical records? They are witnesses to the past!"
"Well," said Margaret, "I'll just keep them as collector's items."
It can be regarded as the heart of the old man.
"Did you buy a new handkerchief?" Elena saw Margaret holding a silk handkerchief that she hadn't seen before, "But looking at this style, it should have been popular last season, right?"
"Ah, I almost forgot about this." Margaret placed the handkerchief on the table, "I didn't buy it."
"You didn't buy it?"
"Well," replied Margaret, "I picked it up on the way here."
"Picked up?"
"yes, it looks like someone accidentally left it behind."
"I see," said Elena, "no wonder there's an 'S' embroidered on it."
Margaret's first name starts with 'M' and her last name starts with 'P'.
"It's because it's embroidered with someone's initials, so I think it should be something very important for that person, and I was afraid that someone else would pick it up, so I picked it up." Margaret explained, "Is there any way to find the owner?"
"If you want to find the owner, you should send it to the police station, right?" Elena said.
"However, the police department doesn't have any special way to find the owner, right?" Margaret said,
"That's just as well."
The efficiency of the police department is simply too low.
The last time Officer Christopher solved the theft of gold coins from the Louvre – with the help of Bella and Elena – the entire police department celebrated for days.
"That's why I brought it here to see if any of the friends in the salon knew anyone who had lost his handkerchief with 'S'." Margaret said.
"What if the other party doesn't want to get it back?" Elena asked.
"In that case...... "Margaret was a little embarrassed, "and there is no way. But I don't think that's going to happen."
"Why?"
"In addition to the embroidered letters, this handkerchief also has a faint violet perfume smell on it."
"What does that mean?" Elena asked, puzzled, "I know about the perfume, but what does it have to do with whether the owner will be recovered?"
"I don't think people who like violets will give up their beloved items easily." Margaret replied.
"This ......"
For Margaret's logic, Elena really didn't know what to say.
"If she really gives up, I can't say anything." Margaret continued, "But, now that the right is lost by accident, is there any way to find the owner?"
"Shall we advertise then?" Elena suggested.
"That's too much trouble, and the other person doesn't necessarily have to read the newspaper." Margaret said, "What's the difference between that and going to the police?"
"This ...... So what are you going to do?" Elena asked.
"I just don't know what to do, that's why I came to talk to you?" Margaret said, "Is there a way to directly confirm the identity of the owner?"
"This ...... It's too hard, isn't it?" Elena frowned, "What do you think, Bella?"
"Hmm...... It's a bit difficult." Bella said, "It's not impossible, though."
"Huh?" Elena was a little surprised, "What's the solution?"
"Really?" Margaret looked at Bella expectantly.
"Well, I'll have to give it a try, but I can't guarantee that I'll find the owner." Bella said.
Then Bella took the silk handkerchief and took a closer look.
