Chapter 4 The Strange Man in the Hut
Bella listened to Elena's outpouring and was deeply sympathetic.
"Perhaps, Mr. Cosimo has some last resort?"
Bella tried to comfort her.
"What's the problem? Can it be more important than the happiness of your own son?" Elena said indignantly, with red eyes.
Bella was noncommittal.
But she didn't feel like Cosimo was the kind of old-fashioned person.
It can be seen from today's incident in the Lord's Palace that he will not stick to stubborn etiquette, let alone care about the eyes of others, otherwise he will definitely punish Elena heavily today.
"But then again, did Miss Sophia really commit suicide?" Bella asked suddenly.
Elena was stunned.
"What do you mean?"
"Suicide by opening a coal stove does make sense. But," Bella said, "I just looked at the stove in that room, it's not very large, and the space in that room is not small, if you want to kill yourself, the concentration may not be able to reach the threshold."
"This ......," Elena panicked, "could it be my father—"
"Don't jump to conclusions." Bella interrupted her, "Mr. Cosimo doesn't look like someone who would do that kind of thing. And if you think about it, if something happens to someone in your own family, if it spreads, it will affect the reputation of the family, right?"
If you really want to start, you will never be so hasty.
"Then why ......," Elena seemed to breathe a sigh of relief.
It seems that although she has some prejudices against her father, she still doesn't want him to be a murderer.
"Things are still a fog." Bella shook her head.
"What should I do then?" Elena asked anxiously.
"Hmm......" Bella said after a moment's thought, "First, we need to determine the cause of Miss Sophia's death."
"How can you be sure?"
"Where is her body?"
"It's currently in my brother's room, and he's with her. Then the pastor will come and pray." Elena said.
Although his identity was a bit impolite, no one dared to dissuade Mr. Lorenzo until now.
"Are there any doctors nearby who are proficient in anatomy and examination?" Bella asked.
"Yes." Anlena immediately replied in the affirmative, "It's not far away in the workshop."
"Without further ado, we'll go right away." Bella said as she stood up.
The two left the mansion with oil lamps in their hands.
At night, Florence is still bustling with activity, although it has faded from the bustle of the day.
Many teahouses and restaurants are really ushering in the peak of business at this moment.
After crossing a few streets, crossing a stone bridge, turning right into the neighborhood along the river, you come to a craft workshop by the Arno River.
Elena stepped forward and knocked on the door.
A handsome young man answered the door.
"Excuse me, is Mr. Verrocchio here?" Elena asked politely.
"Are you ......?" The young man looked at the two in front of him suspiciously.
"Elena de' Medici."
"The master has something to do."
"When will you be back?" Elena continued.
"He's been gone to Venice for business, and he's been gone for about a week." The young man replied, "Do you have anything to do with him?"
"This ......" Elena was a little embarrassed, not knowing whether to say it or not.
"There's a patient at home, and I want him to make a trip." Bella replied.
"Well, that's embarrassing." The other party expressed a slight regret.
"But......" Looking at the two distressed ladies, the young man continued, "Although the master is not here, my senior brother's medical skills are also very good, do you want him to come over and have a look?"
"Oh? Brother Ling is also proficient in medical skills?" Elena asked, surprised.
"Of course, my brother's medical skills are no worse than my master's. It's just that he's been obsessed with mechanical research all day lately, and he's not very famous."
"Can you introduce me?"
"No problem." The young man got out of the way and invited the two ladies into the house, "Come in first."
As soon as she stepped into the workshop, Bella was taken aback by what she saw.
Everywhere are utensils for painting and sculpture, as well as a variety of exquisite handicrafts.
After listening to Elena's introduction, Bella Fang learned that this Mr. Verrocchio was a well-known painter, sculptor, and skilled gold and silver jeweler. He also made great achievements in medicine and anatomy.
"What a versatile character." Bella couldn't help but sigh.
The three of them walked through the busy studio to a small room inside.
"Shhhhh
In the dimly lit room, there was only an oil lamp, silently illuminating a desk.
A young man—who looked a little older than the guy leading the way—was concentrating on the desk, painting something.
"Got a guest?" The other party asked without raising his head.
"Senior brother, do you have time?"
"Do you think I'm idle?" The man continued to work with his head down, and his hand movements did not slow down in the slightest.
"These two want to ask the master to come to the doctor, but the master is not there."
"Really?" The man still didn't look up, "You don't look like there are sick people in the house."
"Huh?" The young man was a little surprised, "Why did Senior Brother say that?"
"Ask them." The man replied.
Although he was answering, the pen in his hand never stopped for a moment, as if it had been set up, and his hands were just operating naturally.
Bella felt that this person had a unique aura, as if she could see through the truth of the world.
"I'll tell you the truth." Bella decided not to hide it any more, "I want you to give a lady a physical examination. This may be her last clue to stay in this world."
Hearing this, the pen in the man's hand suddenly stopped.
For the first time, he looked up at the two uninvited guests in front of him.
The deep eyes seem to hide the light of the true meaning of wisdom.
"Okay, wait a minute." The man neatly arranged the manuscript and drawing tools, then picked up a box in the corner of the room, extinguished the oil lamp, and followed them out of the studio.
"How long has it been?" The man asked.
"Hmm...... I guess it's daytime today, but I don't know the details." Elena replied.
"How old?"
"Less than twenty."
"Are you married?"
"Not yet."
"Family......" The man suddenly stopped, "Does the family mind?"
Elena sighed, "If I could count myself as family, I would want to find out the truth so that she can rest in peace."
The man asked no more.
"By the way, I don't know what to call ......."
"Call me Leonardo." The man said without looking back.
The three of them followed the road they had come from and returned to the Medici mansion.
Elena was marveling at the guy's sense of direction. Walking at night, you don't need to put on a lamp or lead the way to find your destination.
"Is this it?" Leonardo asked.
"That's right." Elena nodded.
When the three of them arrived at Lorenzo's room, Elena's brother was sitting silently on the edge of the bed by himself, holding Sophia's left hand tightly.
It was as if he was praying, and as if he was reminiscing about the past.
In short, it looks like a ghost.
It was as if the soul had gone with her, leaving only an empty shell of her body, and her face was the same as that of Sophia on the bed.
"Brother......" Elena stepped forward and placed her right hand on Lorenzo's shoulder.
The other person seemed to have not heard, or had already heard, but did not have the strength to answer.
After Elena's careful guidance, Lorenzo just nodded helplessly.
He glanced at the beautiful and quiet "sleeping face" on the bed again, and walked out of the room without saying a word.
