Phantom of the Castle Chapter 9 Broken Manuscript

After dinner, Bella decided to go back to the study to look for clues.

Anna took a piece of almond cake back to her room.

Elena decides to stay and help Bella. In fact, she was also very curious about that circle.

Prince Holder wasn't so persistent, but he stayed.

"You can't leave all your worries to the lady."

That's what he said.

The three of them worked together and searched the bookshelves.

I have to say that the original castle owner really loves learning, and the books displayed here alone involve history, geography, astrology, alchemy, medicine, etc., and even some unpopular academic literature. Even Prince Holder, who grew up in the Royal Library of Vienna, was amazed.

"It was an eye-opener." Holder couldn't help but sigh.

"Cut, I haven't seen the world." Elena was not impressed.

Presumably, the Medici family was good at overseas trade, and Elena had been exposed to merchants from all over the world since she was a child, including ships that had sailed to the East. Some of them will give away exotic treasures in addition to trade, and of course there are books and the like.

Seeing the two bickering, Bella had no choice but to laugh and not speak.

"What is this?" An old manuscript catches Bella's attention.

"Looks like the castle master's diary." Elena looked curiously, "Open it and take a look."

"This ...... Not really, right?" After all, personal privacy is involved.

"Look at it like this, it has been sealed in the dust for hundreds of years, and the castle owner is long gone."

"But that's a bit ......."

"Oh, it's okay." Elena snatched the manuscript and eagerly opened it.

"Just take a look." Prince Holder said, "Maybe the lord of the castle has some unfulfilled wishes? Maybe we can help."

As a result, Bella no longer had any objections.

Elena looked at it for a long time.

"Did you find anything?" Holder asked.

Elena shook her head and tossed the manuscript to him.

"It's too old to barely see anything, let alone any valuable clues."

Holder took the manuscript and opened it carefully, going through page by page.

Due to its age, most of the handwriting on it has been blurred, and the paper has faded a little, and only some of the words are faintly legible.

"It's ......," Holder's finger stopped on a page.

Elena and Bella came up.

On top of the yellowed background, there is a line of small writing in Latin.

"In order to save the loved ones, I am willing to exchange the forbidden art of the West for the secret method of the East."

Holder read it out quietly.

What is Western Forbidden Arts? What is the Oriental Mystic? Who is your loved one?

Holder continued to flip back, but the back page was torn out.

"Western forbidden arts, does it refer to the séance style?" Elena speculated.

"Probably not." Bella analyzed, "Although according to Lady Isabel, the séance is indeed a forbidden magic, it doesn't seem to be something unusual. If you want to exchange it for the so-called 'Oriental Secret Law', it should be something more precious."

"Could it be some rare magic item?"

"It's possible, but I think it should be more special."

"How so?" Holder asked curiously.

"From the front of the manuscript, although most of the handwriting is blurred, there are still a few words that are faintly illegible. From these contents, it is surmised that the author probably traveled all over the world in search of a way to "save", and finally found some kind of "secret method" in the East. But this 'secret method' may not be so easy to obtain, so that he is willing to exchange it for his own 'forbidden technique'. In this way, it must be some kind of unknown and powerful magic."

"What would the so-called 'Oriental Secret Method' be?" Elena asked, confused.

Bella shook her head.

"But......" Bella continued, "I think it might be some kind of spell or something."

"Huh?" Elena was puzzled, "Why?"

"I've heard my father's friend mention that in the Far East there are people who are good at yin and yang—what Lady Isabel called an onmyoji—who cast spells instead of wands, but spells or magic weapons, spells like spells."

"A sorcerer?"

"Not quite, it should be a more complex magic system."

"I see...... Bella is so knowledgeable!" Elena sighed.

"No, it's just that when I was a child, I heard the adults in my family chat, and I mentioned some of them." Bella said with a smile.

"But then again, who is the 'loved one' here? Did you succeed?" Elena continued to ask questions.

"Maybe it's a close relative or a lover or something, right?" Mr. Holder speculated, "As to whether it worked out in the end......

"That's impossible." A young girl's voice came from the doorway.

Miss Angela came to the study at some point, and she didn't even notice Bella.

She stood there silently, staring blankly at the three of them, but her gaze seemed to be staring into the distance.

"No one can go against fate...... That's impossible...... Impossible......" she weakened as she spoke, and then passed out on the floor.

When the three of them returned Miss Angela to her room, Lady Isabel was writing in her diary.

"I'm causing you trouble." Madame apologized slightly.

"Where?" Holder said, "May I ask what happened to Ling Yan?"

"Well......," Madame sighed, "that was it when I adopted her."

"Have you ever asked a doctor?"

"The doctor couldn't do anything about it, except that she might have been in a trance because of memory loss."

"Amnesia?" Elena was surprised, "What's going on?"

"She can't remember her past. including who you are, where you come from, and where you are going." Madame looked out the window, as if recalling the past, "When I found her on the beach, she passed out on the beach, and although she was extremely weak, she was not in danger of life. I saw that she was lonely, so I adopted her as my adopted daughter."

"That's right......" Bella felt a little sad.

Elena and Holder didn't feel good either.

Madame stretched out her hand and kindly stroked her sleeping daughter's forehead, with a hint of distress in the corners of her eyes.

"Anyway, thanks to you today." Isabel turned, "Miss Carlos, in particular, thanks to you last night."

"You've won a prize." Bella was a little embarrassed.

"As a token of gratitude." Madame said, taking out a book with a red cover from her suitcase.

"It's ......"

"I know you're looking for the secrets of the castle. I might be able to lend this to you."

Bella hesitated, but took the thing anyway.

"Then it's disrespectful." Bella bowed slightly in thanks.

"I'm old, so I'd better leave this kind of exploration and decryption activity to young people." Isabel smiled, as if she had seen through the vicissitudes of life.
