The Paris Affair Chapter XXVII

At dusk, the sun is sinking in the west, and the golden afterglow shines on the tranquil Seine, making everything so laid-back and comfortable.

Bella and Elena left the library of the University of Paris and walked slowly along the path on the south bank of the Seine. Before heading back, I plan to stop by the park to see how Officer Christopher's investigation is going.

Walking west in the glow of the sunset, you can see that the whole city is dyed with a rich champagne color.

This warm and ambiguous atmosphere makes Paris at the moment shrouded in a romantic and charming veil.

The gravel path on the shore has been artificially groomed and made flat and wide. The lush trees and buildings on both sides of the river reflect the calm water, and the glow of the sunset creates a fantastic and wonderful scene.

When the breeze blows across the water, ripples, this blurry scene once again separates the real from the unreal.

There are many shops built along the river, taking advantage of the beautiful scenery of the Seine to attract customers. It also includes several inns, and almost every room has windows with river views, allowing those staying inside to enjoy this poetic picture.

When the roadside night lights are lit up, Paris finally enters the rhythm of the evening. The evening breeze is slightly stronger than during the day, and the gently fluctuating water surface gives the street lamps a touch of weirdness.

Pedestrians on both sides of the strait enjoy their leisure time in the evening while enjoying this picture of dusk rhyme.

Everything looks so pleasing to the eye that you can't help but revel in it when you're on the banks of the Seine.

When Bella and Elena arrived at the park, there weren't many people here.

Officer Christopher is talking to a child.

"How's it going, Officer Christopher?" Elena stepped forward and asked.

"It's Miss Medici." The officer replied, "It's been clarified, this kid did it."

"Huh? Is this a child?"

Elena looked up and down a lot of the little boy in front of her, who looked only ten years old, looked very ordinary at a glance, and dressed relatively ordinarily, he should be the child of an ordinary Parisian citizen family.

"Yes, he himself has admitted it." Officer Christopher explained, "But when I asked him why he did it, he didn't say anything, which made me a little embarrassed!"

Although the "initiator" was found, Christopher had to take notes when he returned, and even if he did not explain it to Monsieur Robespierre, he himself wanted to know what the motive was.

And looking at the appearance of this child, although he is not well-behaved, he does not look like the kind of troublemaker who likes to play pranks on weekdays.

"Excuse me, where is your home?" Elena asked kindly.

When the child heard the voice, he glanced up at the beautiful big sister, hesitated slightly, and then looked back at a residential area to the southwest.

It was a cluster of houses not far from here, and most of the people living in it were locals of Paris.

"Well, you live around here." Elena continued, "Do you come here a lot?"

The child did not speak, but nodded silently.

"Are there any other friends?" Elena continued.

The child nodded again.

It seems that he is a little shy.

"Why didn't you come with them?"

At this point, the child is still silent. There was a hint of loss in his eyes. Then he just kept his head down and continued not to speak.

"That's right......" Elena touched her chin thoughtfully.

It seems to be just an ordinary child.

Moreover, communication with children is not Elena's strong point. Because sometimes, she can't grasp the meaning of the child.

However, judging from the current situation, there is no obstacle to this communication, but the child in front of him is simply not good at expressing himself. Or is there something unspeakable?

"Bella, what do you think?" Elena asked.

"I think ah......" Bella replied after a moment's thought, "Officer Christopher, you don't have to pursue it any further."

"Huh? Why?" Officer Christopher was puzzled.

At least we should figure out why, right?

"I want him to go back." Bella said, "It's too late, his family will be worried."

"This ...... Oh well." Christopher said, and motioned for the little boy to leave.

"I can't do that again next time!" Officer Christopher admonished.

The little boy nodded, and left the park.

"Do you know what's going on?" Officer Christopher asked.

"It's actually quite simple." Bella said, "This park is the only place to relax nearby, right?"

Geographically, it is located in a residential area near the city, surrounded by either residential or commercial facilities, or surrounded by industrial facilities, except for this park, which can barely be considered a leisure facility.

"When you say that, it seems to be." Officer Christopher said, "There are no other parks or green plazas nearby. But what does this have to do with that?"

"That's actually the psychology of a child." "They probably thought that if someone found out that there were ghosts in the park, no one would dare to rebuild it."

"Why is that?" The officer was still confused.

"It's because it's the only leisure facility and the only place for kids to play." "If it's converted into a commercial center, they'll lose the only game space they have. For the children, it's a loss of childhood."

"That's why they're here?" Officer Christopher was a little incredulous, "But it's unlikely that he will change his plan just because of that, right?"

"That being said, that's just what adults think." Bella said, "Children don't think so."

A child's mind is always very simple. It's like they're afraid of ghosts, and they'll think adults are scared too.

Of course, some adults are also afraid, but they don't deal with problems as simply as children.

"How is this a good ......" The officer was really moved and a little embarrassed.

Bella must have known that Officer Christopher couldn't have brought a child back to the police station because of such a thing. But how could he have explained it to Monsieur Robespierre without a better explanation?

"All you have to do is tell Monsieur Robespierre that the matter is settled." Bella said, "The rest is a secret of your police department. Then he wouldn't bother to ask, would he?"

"But what is Mr. Robert going to do?"

Robert Adam still needs to come here to continue the mapping work, and it is not appropriate not to explain it to him.

"Mr. Robert, try to communicate with him. As long as you explain to him what happened, I think he will understand."

After all, the children's thoughts are very simple, they just don't want to lose the only play space, and they don't mean to harm others.

Afterwards, Bella and Elena said goodbye to Officer Christopher and continued their walk along the Seine.

At night, most of the street lights in the city are already lit.

Paris is completely in nightlife mode.

This fashionable and romantic city is still vibrant at night, even if it fades away from the hustle and bustle of the day.

Shops and restaurants dot the streets, salons and clubs are lit up, and theatre performances create a lively scene.

The people of the metropolis are reluctant to be prosperous, and even after the night falls, they are still immersed in the profligacy and pastime of mundane things.

As a poet once said, "Through this hazy and ambiguous fog, I have glimpsed the vanity of the red dust and floating world, and even if I am drunk with a thousand cups, I can not hide the death of my heart."

This kind of hustle and bustle is a world of entertainment for adults, but there is no place for children.

Until they are completely stained by this world, they will not need alcohol and hormones to escape the misery of life.

All they have is a small piece of the world, three or two playmates, a few simple little toys, and they can create their own innocent world.

And those are the things that adults no longer need and have long been forgotten.

"Elena, are you still thinking about that child?" Seeing that Elena, who had always been active, suddenly became silent, Bella asked with concern.

"Hmm." Elena nodded, "You say, won't they have a place to play in the future?"

If the park had been converted into a commercial center, it would no longer be a casual place to play. There is no other similar place for children to play in the area.

It seems that children who grow up in the metropolis are not as happy as they are in the countryside.

"Well...... It's not for us to control." Bella said.

This is a decision made by the royal family, and it is difficult for ordinary people to change it.

Still, Bella felt that it would be difficult to improve the country's financial problems by simply building a commercial center. On the one hand, there was the extravagance of the royal family and the large number of nobles in Versailles to support, and on the other hand, the malpractice of the state system that had occurred since the time of Louis XIV led to a deficit in the treasury for many years. The peasants' taxes have also become unbearable. France's frequent involvement in other countries' wars further increased the burden on the people.

The helplessness of the children is only a microcosm of the problems in the context of prosperity.

"Then they're too pitiful, aren't they?"

Elena is also a kind girl.

"But I think if Mr. Robert had known about it, he would have thought a little bit about the kids." "After all, children are the future of the city."
