108 Academic lectures

Zhou Xuechen is well-known in the academic world, and his lecture attracted a variety of people, including students and teachers from his own and other schools, physicists, and the news media, who soon surrounded the auditorium.

However, at this moment, Zhou Xuechen has not yet appeared. Zhou Yalan couldn't help but call him a few more times, but Zhou Xuechen never answered.

Zhou Yalan's heart is very anxious, oh my God, he shouldn't be drunk, he's really going crazy, what should I do?

Zhou Xuechen sat alone on a large round table and drank tea, his mobile phone rang several times, and he saw that it was Zhou Yalan calling, so he never answered. The middle-aged uncles at the table next to him who were having a dinner party were still talking loudly and raising their glasses to drink. Zhou Xuechen was not affected, he sat quietly, looking leisurely and contented.

Looking at the time again, it was already 1:55, Zhou Xuechen slowly stood up, and at this time, Yang Fan called him.

Zhou Xuechen grinned and answered the phone, and Yang Fan's anxious voice came from the other end of the phone: "Teacher Zhou, where are you?" The lecture will start at 2 o'clock, come over quickly, everyone is waiting for you! ”

Hearing that Zhou Xuechen's side was very noisy, Yang Fan's eyebrows locked deeper.

Zhou Xuechen said helplessly: "Oh, Yang Fan, I can't leave here." ”

Yang Fan was surprised, "Can't leave?" When can you arrive? We would like to inform you that the lecture has been postponed. ”

"I don't know when I'll be there."

"You ......" Yang Fan was a little angry, but he immediately suppressed the fire again and said, "Where are you?" I'll pick you up! ”

"I don't know where I've gone."

In addition to hearing Zhou Xuechen's voice, Yang Fan also heard a man who had been shouting "drink, drink", he took a breath and asked, "Did Teacher Zhou mean that today's lecture was canceled?" ”

"Cancellation? No need to cancel. You speak! Everything in today's lecture was prepared by you, and no one knows the content of the lecture better than you, so you can help me explain it. ”

Yang Fan was both surprised and a little angry, he said, "What? I speak? How can it! Everyone came here to listen to your lecture, and you asked me to give it? It's so irresponsible! ”

Zhou Xuechen saw that he was angry, so he comforted: "It's okay, it's okay, you just say I'm still on the way in the past, you can introduce it to everyone first, and say that I'll be there later." Yang Fan, I will leave this matter to you, just talk about it in your own way, tell it well, I believe you will not lose my face as a master. ”

Yang Fan couldn't, so he had to say, "Okay, you hurry up." ”

"Good!" Zhou Xuechen hung up the phone, hooked the corners of his mouth, and smiled.

At 2 o'clock, Yang Fan took a deep breath and slowly walked onto the podium. The auditorium was silent, and everyone looked at him with expectant eyes, thinking that he was going to announce the official start of the lecture, and then Zhou Xuechen appeared on the stage.

However, Yang Fan said, "Teachers and students, good afternoon. Today was originally Mr. Zhou Xuechen's academic lecture, but now he has a little situation, and he can't catch up for the time being. He told me to share some of the content of the lecture with you first, and he will come over as soon as possible, please be patient and don't be impatient, thank you. ”

As soon as he finished speaking, there was a chaotic voice in the audience. Everyone was looking forward to Zhou Xuechen's appearance, but the result was that a student would hold a sharing meeting, and they would inevitably be a little disappointed. But thinking that Zhou Xuechen would be present later, everyone did not leave, and continued to sit and wait.

Yang Fan saw everyone's expressions of loss or disdain, and felt a little uncomfortable in his heart, however, he suddenly remembered Zhou Xuechen's words: No one knows the content of the lecture better than you. Please, just speak in your own way, speak well, I believe you......

Yang Fan closed his eyes and opened them suddenly, there is nothing to fear, there is nothing to make me retreat, no one enjoys and loves this physical world more than me, now, I will present it to you one by one!

Yang Fan's indifferent handsome face suddenly became deep, his gaze was sharp and firm, and his beautiful voice suddenly sounded in the auditorium.

"In 1964, the physicist Feynman said in a lecture at Cornell University: 'I think I can safely say that no one really understands quantum mechanics.'"

Indeed, quantum mechanics is weird, it is counter-intuitive. But it's also practical, as physicists can use quantum mechanics to come up with more accurate calculations. It became the basis for our understanding of atoms, nuclei, electrical conductivity, electromagnetic radiation, magnetism, semiconductors, superconductors, neutron stars, white dwarfs, nuclear forces, and elementary particles, and it describes for us how this microcosm works.

To this day, however, we are still confused by his concept. Is the wave function real, or is it a tool used by scientists to calculate? Schrödinger's cat, both alive and dead in the box, really exists? Are selective vulnerabilities really unfillable?

Today, I would like to share with you what I understand this controversial and incredible quantum mechanics.

Let's start with the singular beginnings of quantum mechanics. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, physicists were working on the question: What is the world made of? Originally, they thought that the electrons and nuclei inside the atom and other particles, as well as the fields that diffuse in space, such as light, are electromagnetic fields. However, in 1905, Albert Einstein discovered that the light produced by heating an object could be divided into weightless particles, which were later called photons.

In the 20s of the 20th century, Schrödinger and other physicists discovered that the electron, which has always been regarded as a particle, actually has the nature of a wave, which is a wave that diffuses around the nucleus of an atom, just like the sound wave in the organ pipe. These waves have different states, and the different stable states represent different energy levels of atoms. After the electron hits the nucleus, it either goes this way or that way. Born showed by calculation that the wave of the electron is a probability wave, which represents the probability of the occurrence of the electron. An electron can go anywhere, but the most likely location for it is the one with the highest wave density.

So, the question is, in the field of quantum mechanics, physicists are accustomed to using probability to describe phenomena, but doesn't probability just show that we don't understand the object of study thoroughly? We don't fully understand it, so we can express it as probability. It's like throwing a die on the ground, we don't know where it's going to go, and we don't know which side it will end up on.

Just after Born proposed that the essence of the electron wave function is probability, Einstein wrote him a letter.
