Chapter 20: Veronica and Christina
"What?...... Veronica" Alice couldn't help but froze when she heard Zu'er's report.
Veronica is an old subordinate who has followed Alice for many years, when the rebels of the "Lynx" attacked the cave fortress, Alice's guards refused to surrender, and later when Alice was imprisoned, these loyal subordinates also suffered a lot, including Veronica. Early the morning before yesterday, Alice sent Veronica and another female soldier out to buy supplies, but after a whole day, the two of them still did not return, originally Alice wanted to investigate in person, but was delayed by Cassius's matter;
"Alice, let's figure out what's going on first?" Sophia walked up, and Sophia felt Alice's uneasy sadness.
After being reminded by Sophia, Alice came back to her senses, and she hurriedly instructed Zuer, "By the way, where is Joika, Joika, take him to the council chamber and wait for me......
"No need, I'm already here. A familiar and loud voice came from outside the room.
As soon as the words fell, the man stood at the door.
I saw that Joyka had a bearded face, tired eyes, messy hair, and the stench of alcohol and other strange smells from clothes that had not been washed in days, and she looked very decadent. On his right shoulder he was carrying a bag of hemp, which contained heavy objects.
"Don't come in!" Zuer hurriedly blocked the door to prevent Joyka from stepping into the room.
"Get out of the way. Joyka seemed to flick slightly, but Zu'er felt like a thousand pounds of force pressing down, and was completely irresistible and pushed aside.
After removing the obstacles, Joika casually stepped her muddy boots on the clean, neat wooden floor of Sophia's room. He looked over Sophia and Alice and saw that there was another man in the room besides him.
"Hey, Owen, you're there too, what are you discussing?" Joyka greeted Owen with a raised hand, and made no secret of the fact that he already knew that Owen had arrived.
"Joika, what the hell is this ......"
Before Alice could finish speaking, Joyka threw the sack on her shoulder on the ground. The weight inside the sack slammed into the suspended wooden floor with a very loud "thump". The rope tied to the mouth of the bag was loosened, revealing the upper body of the naked corpse of the girl inside.
"Ahh
"Veronica!" Alice hurriedly knelt down, she pulled out the long messy hair of the female corpse, and when she saw that the tragic face was indeed her subordinate, the only luck in her heart was shattered, she raised her head and glared at Joyka with a dissatisfied expression, "Can't you just be light?"
Sophia also squatted down, comforting Alice while accumulating magic in the silver cross, trying to see if there was still a chance of rescue, but when Sophia touched the cold skin, stiff limbs, and corpse spots all over the surface of the skin, she knew that she had long since lost her skills, and the girl had been dead for at least ten hours, and the obvious bruise on her neck should be the cause of death. Sophia didn't know how to comfort Alice, so she silently hugged her shoulders from behind.
After a short period of mourning, Sophia, as the leader, did not continue to bask in grief, she showed her strong side, stood up and asked Joika, the only possible person in the know, "This shameless thing, Joika, do you know who did it?"
"I did it. Joyka replied crisply.
"What?!" Alice stood up with a "whoop", "Y-What did you just say?"
"I mean, I killed this woman. Joyka said casually, "I framed her with my own hands." β
As soon as these words came out, the three women in the room were shocked. Zuer even pulled out the long sword at her waist with a straight "swish", and she glared at Joyka with an angry face, as long as Sophia or Alice gave the order, she would immediately avenge her sister.
"You, you...... Do you know what you're doing?" Alice yelled at Joika, "Veronica has been with me for five years, look what you're doing!
"Alice, your head has just been burned to a pulp. Unexpectedly, Joyka retorted without guilt, "It's been 5 years, and I haven't found out who the cronies around me have planted in." β
"Huh?" Alice paused.
"You mean to say that this girl is a spy?" Owen asked.
"Joika, do you know something?" asked Sophia.
"I don't know much, but I'm sure to tell you that this womanβ" Joyka pointed to the female corpse on the ground, "definitely not your own person to mourn." I didn't have to kill her, but she dared to provoke my Uncle Joyka. Hmph, with those half-bucket of water of enchanting magic, think you can really plot against me?"
"You're talking nonsense!" roared Zu'er.
"What kind of seduction? Alice was still emotionally extremely unconvinced of what Joyka had to say.
But Joyka didn't bother to argue with her, he waved his hand and said, "Speaking of which, you should be grateful to me, I helped you remove a nail that could pierce a bloody hole in your back at any moment." β
With that, Joyka turned and left the room without looking back.
Sophia, Owen, Alice, Zuer, the four of them hurriedly chased out.
"Wait!" Alice shouted from behind, "Joyka, stop! Where's Christina? It's the female soldier who went out with Veronica, what did you do to her?"
"What Christina? I haven't seen it. After a brief pause, Joyka shook off the nonchalant reply and continued on her way.
"Where are you going?" Owen asked aloud.
"I'm hungry, I'm looking for something to eat. Take a bath and sleep. How laid-back like you, Owen, chat with the beauties when you have nothing to do. The words faded away, and with Joyka's figure, she disappeared into the night.
......
The next day, Sophia and Alice sent a large number of people to search the city, and finally found the missing female soldier - Christina in a dilapidated house.
"Where's the wound on your head? And who tied you up and threw you in that place? Did the man named Joyka do it?"
After bringing Christina back to the camp, when her horror had calmed down, Alice eagerly asked the question she wanted to know most.
Christina shook her head.
"Who did that. β
"Yes, it's Veronica......"
"How could that be?
"The day before yesterday, Veronica and I went to the city to buy supplies, and we both walked into an alley, and suddenly someone hit me on the head from behind, and I fainted. When I woke up, I found myself tied up, and I struggled until someone came to my rescue. β
"Then you didn't see Veronica attack you, and you didn't see Veronica tie you up, how can you tell if it's her?"
"I'm sure. Because she was the only one walking behind me at the time. β
"Christina, have you ever thought that it is also possible that someone attacked Veronica in the back and then attacked you. β
"No!" said Christina firmly, "I recognize that the knot of the rope is definitely from Veronica's hand. By the way, what about Veronica? Is she coming back? I want to confront her and ask her why she did this. β
At this point, Alice didn't want to ask any more, because the results of the question made the truth of the matter develop in a direction that she didn't want to believe. Not long ago, Alice also received the results of Veronica's autopsy: although she had been dead for more than ten hours, the corpse still had a reaction to the residual magic - that is, Veronica had studied magic before her death. The oral accounts of witnesses, as well as the report of the autopsy, all invariably told Alice that what Joyka said last night was true.
Alice, who was tired for a day and a night, was a little tired, and she walked outside in a daze......
