"Gengzi Plague" (I) postscript and character tree

Previous Chapter

Postscript and genealogy

I finally finished writing the novel "Gengzi Plague" (Part I).

But my mood was not easy.

Although the new crown epidemic has been brought under control, we have achieved important results in a phased manner. The Chinese spirit, Chinese strength, Chinese wisdom, Chinese efficiency, and Chinese culture have once again become the magic weapon of the Chinese nation in the unprecedented catastrophe of the new crown epidemic.

The pandemic is still not over all over the world, and the situation is grim. But I think that the day of the phased victory of the epidemic is also the beginning of our deep thinking.

The labor pains of trauma are not at the time of trauma, but after trauma.

The new crown pneumonia is spreading around the world, and the virus is the public enemy of all mankind. China's battle against the epidemic is actually a battle of national self-defense and a battle for a community with a shared future for the world. Viruses will not engulf the world, nor will they conquer it. The new crown pneumonia virus will be defeated by China and conquered by the whole world.

The new coronavirus is not only a biological virus, its harm is not only in the human body, in nature, and in social life, but also in different skin colors, different countries and regions, different industries, and different psychological worlds around the world. It may produce or mutate into an alternative virus that harms us all.

This is what we need to always be vigilant and guard against.

I started working on "Gengzi Plague" in January 2020 and completed the first draft in June 2020, which lasted several months. I always pay attention to the epidemic at home and abroad, and pay attention to the frontline and grassroots of the anti-epidemic. I have been fighting the epidemic in a different way.

I feel that as a writer, I have the responsibility to record this earth-shattering and unprecedented history in the form of literature, so that people can feel, relive, remember, and reflect on this history from the level of literature and art.

The first draft of this work was all manuscripts, totaling more than 380 pages, and hundreds of ballpoint pen refills were written. I overcame many difficulties to complete this work under very difficult external conditions. I feel like I'm fighting the epidemic on another battlefield, and I'm fighting the enemy of the coronavirus in a special way.

I joined the Hubei Writers Association in 1995. At that time, a novel reflecting the theme of the college entrance examination was published, and after the publication of the Changjiang Literature and Art Publishing House, the response was good. I went on to write several novels and a number of essays and poems, which I published in collections. When I wrote "Gengzi Epidemic" this time, I was very confused at first, and I couldn't sort out this major theme. In the face of the unprecedented new crown epidemic, why write? How to write it? What kind of narrative is used as a perspective? Will "empathy substitution" affect the writer's aesthetics? Will the online discussion be affected? Confused me for a long time. Such a major subject, such a sensitive topic, and such an event that affects the hearts of hundreds of millions of people is a big test for a writer's aesthetic taste and narrative wisdom.

I have recorded more than 1,000 moving cases and thousands of pieces of information on the front line of epidemic prevention and control, and I have heard and witnessed countless people and things that can be sung and cried. In the midst of this pandemic, people have shown unprecedented dedication and kindness in the face of the new coronavirus. The Chinese spirit, Chinese strength, and Chinese wisdom are fully displayed in everyone and thousands of front-line fighters.

I believe that writers should have responsibility and courage when writing about disasters.

In the face of the corona pandemic, if it is a non-fiction work, it should be positive or neutral, which is recognized all over the world. If it is a fictional work, such as a novel, as a literary and artistic form, I believe that it should reflect society, history, human nature, and life from the perspective of the eternal value orientation of the truth, goodness, and beauty of human nature.

The writer is the engineer of the human soul, the writer is the one who strikes matches and raises torches in the darkness and chaos, the writer is the angel of love, not the devil of hate, the writer is a true conscience.

I heard that cultural circles and society are both curious and worried about literature about the new crown epidemic, especially novels. It is curious that someone would dare to write a novel on this genre; The worry is that such a sensitive literary work will cause a lot of unforeseen things. As a result, wait-and-see, indifference, and strict interrogation have become the attitudes of some people to protect themselves. Some people are afraid of novels with such themes, even like they are afraid of "viruses", which is worth pondering.

The storyline of the novel "Gengzi Epidemic" is composed of three threads. The first clue is the touching story of Zhu Yi, director of the Department of Respiratory Medicine of Fumin Hospital, and his team on the front line of the fight against the epidemic. The second clue is that the inspection team of the Provincial Epidemic Prevention Headquarters and Zhang Dawei, deputy secretary of the Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection, etc., supervised and inspected the front-line epidemic prevention and anti-epidemic and promoted the epidemic prevention and control of the province and the city. The third clue is the deeds of Fang Jia, Cheng Xiao and others in the Wanjia Community of Jinghe Street, who carried out anti-epidemic street battles in the community until they achieved the initial victory of community anti-epidemic and anti-epidemic. The whole story is composed of the above three threads and three levels. The plot is twisty, the story is touching, and it is readable.

After the manuscript was completed, it was revised several times. Eight or nine revisions. The intention is to make the novel like a novel, and to make the work have more cultural and Chinese elements for the benefit of readers.

In the writing world, in the group of writers, there is a sentence that writers all know, a novella is a disease, and a long story is a life. Meaning, it's very hard to create. It's hard to create, it's even harder to write a novel, and it's even more difficult to create a work that involves a major disaster. Although there are many difficulties, the novel "Gengzi Epidemic" has finally been written.

After the completion of "Gengzi Epidemic", it attracted attention from all walks of life. The Hubei Provincial Copyright Bureau reviewed the book page by page, registered the copyright and issued a certificate. This is the first novel in the country to be based on the theme of the new crown epidemic. The country's largest digital publishing institution, the "Key Online Literature Garden" of the Central Propaganda Department, and the world's most advanced digital publishing unit "Chinese Online" 17K Novel Network signed a contract with me and officially published chapter by chapter, which received widespread attention.

This work will inevitably have shortcomings, and I sincerely hope that readers and friends will correct it
