Medical College New Year's Day: The white coat is not armor, say no to violent wounded doctors

December 24, 2019 is Christmas Eve, and people are accustomed to immerse themselves in the peaceful and happy holiday atmosphere of Christmas Eve.

A doctor, but fell to her job, her name is Yang Wen, and she is the deputy chief physician of the Beijing Civil Aviation General Hospital.

At six o'clock that day, a patient's family member came to Dr. Yang's back, chatting with the doctor one second, but suddenly pulled out a sharp knife and stabbed her in the neck the next. In just two minutes, Dr. Yang's neck was severely damaged, and before she could react, she collapsed in a pool of blood.

The killer has now been arrested as a suspect in intentional homicide. Unfortunately, Dr. Yang eventually passed away in the early morning of the 25th due to his injuries.

Today is New Year's Day, the first day of 2020, but Dr. Yang did not survive this day, which makes me very sad.

Why treat a doctor so cruelly? Is it because doctors can't cure all diseases? Is it because doctors can't bring people back to life? Or is it because doctors can't make death never come? But in fact......

Doctors are not omnipotent gods!

A doctor summed up his career in his epitaph this way: Occasionally healed, often helped, always comforted.

Birth, old age, sickness and death are the inevitability of life, and it is disease that takes away life. Medical staff use their knowledge, technology, and care to give patients the opportunity to live a little longer from the clutches of disease.

This is a war that cannot be won or lost, and all medical staff and patients are comrades-in-arms who move forward together. Our common enemy is disease.

There have been more than one incident of violence against doctors, and I am very saddened by the fact that Chinese medical staff have been working in a high-risk environment for a long time, and there is no guarantee for their safety. I don't want to see tragedies like this happen again and again – just as we don't want the same thing to happen to drivers, teachers, or lawyers.

With this article alone, I would like to make a faint voice for Chinese medical workers, and I hope that everyone can have more understanding of doctors when seeking medical treatment, even if there is a dispute, it should be resolved in a legal way, not in an extreme way.
