Chapter 197: The Second Year of the First Month
It's a new day. Luo Qingyan lay on the bed, searching in his mind for what customs and legends were there on the second day of the Lunar New Year.
Thoughts drift away:
1:
On the second day of the first lunar month, the married daughter takes her husband and children back to her parents' house to pay New Year's greetings. When the daughter returns to her parents' house, she must make a big bag of biscuits and candies, and the mother will distribute them to the neighbors, just like the scene of the New Year. If there are more than one daughter in the family, and these daughters do not return on the same day, then they should come one by one, and the gift is quite small, just four biscuits. However, it reflects a strong sense of affection, and the real one is "courtesy and affection", which expresses the girl's earnest thoughts about the villagers.
2:
In the north, on the second day of the first month, the God of Wealth is sacrificed, and on this day, whether it is a commercial store or an ordinary family, it is necessary to hold a sacrifice to the God of Wealth. Each family sacrifices to the God of Wealth brought on Chinese New Year's Eve. At noon on this day, we have to eat wontons, commonly known as "ingots soup". Fish and mutton were used for sacrificial offerings. The big businesses in old Beijing all carried out large-scale sacrificial activities on this day, and the sacrifices should be made with the "five major offerings", that is, whole pigs, whole sheep, whole chickens, whole ducks, red live carp, etc., hoping to make a fortune.
Luo Qingyan's family should belong to the northern region where the God of Wealth is to be sacrificed, then, about today's legends, Luo Qingyan only knows one vaguely:
Legend of the God of Wealth
It is said that the God of Wealth is worshiped by rich people, and those who have no money will not appear when worshipped. There is a folk story of "the God of Wealth Bodhisattva divorced his wife": in the past, the God of Wealth Temple was always accompanied by a dignified and beautiful God of Wealth. Later, this kind female Bodhisattva suddenly disappeared, and it turned out that she was divorced by the God of Wealth.
Why did the God of Wealth divorce his wife? It all started with a beggar. There was a beggar who was so poor that he had no way out, and he passed by an ancient temple to beg for food. After entering the temple, he did not worship any Bodhisattva, but only touched the statue of the God of Wealth, bowed his head upside down, and prayed to the God of Wealth for wealth. Marshal Zhao Gong saw that it was a flower child, and he thought that he was reluctant to even light incense and candles, and he came to ask for money? There are so many poor people in the world, can I take care of it? But the beggar thought the opposite, he thought that the God of Wealth would always help the poor, and the rich did not know how to eat and clothe, so what was the use of asking for wealth? And they did not cease to worship.
At this time, the God of Wealth Niangniang was moved with compassion and wanted to wake up the dozing God of Wealth husband and persuade him to send kindness to this flower child a little alms. But the God of Wealth ignored it, yawned twice and closed his eyes. Although she is the God of Wealth, the power of wealth is in the hands of her husband, and her husband does not nod, how can he give money to Huazi?
Niangniang had no choice but to take off her earrings and throw them to Hanako. The beggar suddenly felt that something was thrown on the shrine, and when he saw that it was a pair of gold earrings, he knew that it was given by the God of Wealth, so he hurriedly kowtowed, and shouted "Thank you to the God of Wealth Bodhisattva". The God of Wealth opened his eyes and found that Niangniang had given her the love object she had given to the poor Hanako, so he was furious and drove the God of Wealth Niangniang out of the Buddha shrine. Since then, for hundreds of years, no poor person has been rich by worshipping the god of wealth!
Regarding the words of returning to his parents' house, Luo Qingyan still vaguely remembers something:
Eclipse of the day
When the girl returns home, if there is a nephew at home, she must pay for it again when she is an aunt, although she has already given it when she gives the New Year's money on the first day of the new year, but this time the meaning is different. This ancient traditional custom is called "eclipse day" by the Chaoshan people. As the name suggests, it's just lunch, and the daughter has to rush back to her in-laws' house before dinner.
Return to the house
The new daughter-in-law of the tide customs goes back to her parents' house and is called "Huicuo", which is called "Guining" in ancient times, three times in a row, so there are "head back to the house" (three days after marriage), "two return to the house" (twelve days after marriage), "three back to the house" (full moon after marriage). There are three days of return to the house, and there are also twelve days or full moon returns.
Tou Hui Cuo generally cannot stay overnight at his mother's house, and he has to return after lunch before cooking at his mother's house. You can stay for a day or two in the second return house (you can't stay overnight in Chao'an). You can live for ten days and a half in the house three times, as long as you discuss it with your husband's family. The first two returns to the house are usually discussed in advance, and the bride's brother will bring them back. The third return is usually done by the bride herself or by the groom.
Eat sweet eggs
When the bridegroom visits his parents-in-law for the first time, he should bring three great gifts. The parents-in-law should let the son-in-law "eat sweet eggs (eggs)" and set up a banquet to entertain them. After the son-in-law finishes the meal, he returns on the same day, leaving his wife at her mother's house, and picking up the bride on the agreed day or having the bride's brother send her back. After the groom welcomes the bride through the door, he immediately "returns to the house" with the bride, and then goes out for a walk, and then goes to the new city to "return to the house", and everything is as usual when he returns to his parents' house after marriage.
The custom of "eating sweet eggs" originates from a beautiful story: in the past, an old woman surnamed Li had an adult girl, and she was married to Zhang Sheng by a matchmaker. After several years of childlessness, the mother-in-law heard that her daughter's husband and wife had different opinions and had been separated for a long time, which was not a physical problem. Tell the son-in-law that sweet eggs are sweet and complete, that the family can be sweet and perfect, and that the husband and wife can have children if they are sweet and perfect. Son-in-law, husband and wife respect each other like guests from then on. The following year, the son-in-law happily went to the Yue's house to report the good news. Since then, descendants have honored the new son-in-law with boiled sweet eggs, and it has been passed down from generation to generation.
Luo was a little absorbed in her thoughts, and she didn't notice Xia Mochen for a long time when she came in, "What are you thinking?" "Xia Mochen sometimes really wants to knock Luo Qingyan's head to see what is inside, and he can be distracted every day when he has nothing to do. Luo lightly looked at it, haha, the person who solved his doubts came, Luo Qingyan asked Xia Mochen about today's various matters, and sure enough, it was the same as what he thought, and it was very different from what Luo Qingyan knew about himself, "I'm going to get up!" After waiting for the answer he wanted, Luo got up lightly. The air pressure of the Luo family today is relatively low, not for anything else, just because today is the second day of the Lunar New Year, the Li family has taken Uncle Niu back to her parents' house, and the eldest uncle has not returned to her parents' house, but that is because Luo Binglei has returned to the Luo family's old house with Dabao, and the women who have no daughter-in-law in the village have returned to their parents' homes with their husbands and children, only Su's family, she has no mother's house to go, Luo Qingyan has never asked carefully, she doesn't want to mention Su's sadness, but she probably knows that when she met her father, I only know that my surname is Su, my name is Shan, and I don't know anything about the rest, so many years, Susan has never thought of going back to her parents' home, first of all, she has not separated before, she is busy every day under the pressure of Mrs. Luo, and she has no time to think about this, this year, the Luo family has come out independently, and the life of the family is better, there is no need to be busy, looking at the people around you will go to her mother's house, or say that there is a mother's home to go back, and herself, but she doesn't even know where her mother's family is from, where it is, and whether she is still there, so, Su's mood today has not been very high.
