Chapter 3: Ella and Ann (4)
When Ella was five years old, the surviving children of the experimental base were scattered to orphanages in various places, and Ella was no exception. When she was seven years old, she was adopted by Mrs. Morris.
Mrs. Morris, about thirty years old, with slender limbs and a thin, even morbidly thin, stood in the hall of the orphanage like a skeleton that would fall apart at the slightest touch. There's a bit of flesh on the face, and it doesn't really look like a skeleton. The eyes are sunken into it, like a cave inhabited by an evil dragon. There are many fine lines at the corners of the eyes, with faint spots. She is dressed in black, like the witch who casts spells and does evil in the story.
She chose Ella from among the many children in the orphanage, and Ella didn't ask why, and she didn't feel the joy of being adopted. It's not because she doesn't want to be adopted, it's because she's always wanted to have a home. But looking at Mrs. Morris, she was a little frightened. Just as she had instinctively judged Lady Joanna to be a good person, Ella first saw Lady Morris and thought she was a hypocrite, with a smirk on her face.
Sure enough, Mrs. Morris's kindness only existed in the orphanage, and the moment she walked out of the orphanage with Ella, compassion and pity were all gone, leaving only meanness, indifference, and hypocrisy in front of outsiders.
Mrs. Morris's home was as scrawny as her own, with little furniture, creaking floors, and the most of the house's stuff was empty wine bottles, concentrated in the living room, in the kitchen. Ella's room was arranged in the attic on the second floor, which was full of dust and there was nothing but a bed and a tattered couch.
Mrs. Morris adopted Ella, but she never cared about Ella, and would give Ella a little money every week to help her solve her own food and clothing problems, and Ella had to be careful with the money. Mrs. Morris was a drinker, and when she was drunk, she fell to sleep on the floor, and if Ella accidentally disturbed her, she would pick up a bottle and hit Ella. On one occasion she went insane and beat Ella and locked her in the utility room in the yard. In the cold winter wax moon, in the cold utility room, Ella's wound was hot and painful.
Later, Mrs. Morris began to bring back some unscrupulous men, who instigated Mrs. Morris to take Ella out of anger. Ella's nightmare really begins. She was beaten almost every day or two, she was beaten when she stepped on the floor and made a noise, Mrs. Morris was beaten when she was drunk, and Mrs. Morris's men burned her with cigarette butts.
To protect herself, most of the time, Ella locks herself in the house, curled up on the old couch like a kitten. The noise downstairs was like a punctual announcement, and she looked out the window at the night, and a certain boy was the moonlight in her heart.
"Resley, I miss you so much."
Her voice was almost inaudible.
She closed her eyes, as if Resli was beside her, covered her with a quilt and whispered to her, "Good night, Allah".
Ella, I love you.
Ella, I will always be with you.
Ella, I'll get you out of here.
Ella......
Ella woke up, and Resley's voice in her ears switched to the noise downstairs. When I opened my eyes, Resley was not around, and the night was not over.
"Resley, you're a big liar."
Ella blew on the new wound on her arm, her eyes glistening with water.
Although Mrs. Morris treats Ella badly, Ella does not consider her a heinous bad person. This is not based on feelings, but on evidence:
People who will go to orphanages to adopt orphans are not bad people.
No one has unwarranted ill will towards others.
This may have been the result of Ella's repeated hypnotization of herself, and she didn't want to be occupied by hatred. Whenever Mrs. Morris hit her, she hinted at herself again and again.
In the streets where Mrs. Morris lived, there were many ruffians who would rob passers-by of the money and threaten the disadvantaged people in the area. Every time Ella went out to prepare food, she would check through the attic window to see if the ruffians were nearby, and if they weren't, she would go out.
But this time, unfortunately, when Ella returned home, she was caught by them. They forced Ella to hand over all her belongings, but Ella was unwilling because it was all her ration for the week, and if she was snatched away, she would be hungry, and Mrs. Morris would not give her another penny.
She clutched her food, gritted her teeth, and endured their punches and kicks, pain running from every part of her body to her brain. The scoundrel in the lead even threatens her with a knife, which clings to the skin of her face, but awakens a familiar feeling.
"That's it."
It seemed as if someone was talking to her, but the voice seemed to come from her own head.
"Ella, have you forgotten everything you learned at the experimental base?"
The sound stimulated her brain again.
Ella looked around, and was sure that there was no one else nearby but the scoundrels. She looked at the ruffian who threatened her with a knife, but she was still thinking about the voice that she didn't know the source just now.
"Hey, little brat, if you don't hand it over, you're welcome." The scoundrel at the head of the group involuntarily scratched a shallow scar on Ella's face, and the knife pressed against the wound, oozing blood.
"Can you leave me half of it?" Ella prayed. In exchange, all I got was the other party's "What are you kidding?" Disdain.
The other party's cloudy pupils were crawling with pitch-black vines, squeezing the hope in Ella's heart for the kindness of people.
Why is there an experimental building?
Why was Resley's body modified?
Why did Mrs. Morris beat herself?
Why is there such a bunch of scoundrels now?
Restlessness, anger, and irritability all hit Ella in one fell swoop.
The blood from the wound flowed to the corners of her mouth, and she removed the knife attached to her face, and the knife reflected the vicious face of the other party, which was malicious intent.
No one has unwarranted ill will towards others.
The creed in her heart was not so impregnable, but the walls were vulnerable, and the enemy didn't even use any means to break her city.
"Ella, do you want to give me your body? I won't let anyone bully you. ”
The voice came again, a strong, unyielding female voice.
If you can not be bullied, if you can protect the people you want to protect, what is the body? Ella was no longer alarmed by the sudden sound, but was grateful for its timely appearance, and felt that the sound was originally a part of her body.
"That's up to you." Ella smiled coldly and lost consciousness.
By the time she regained consciousness, there was only a severed hand left by her side, a severed hand wrapped in blood, and the scoundrels were nowhere to be found.
"What did you do?" Ella asked.
"It's nothing, it's just a practical application of what the teacher taught in the experimental building." The voice replied in her head.
"What's the matter with that hand?"
"He scratched your face, and I asked him for a hand, and it's fair. How? You hate me for doing this? ”
"No, it's not annoying." Ella picked up the food she had bought, and she walked in the direction of Mrs. Morris's house, the severed hand was like garbage everywhere on the side of the road, and Ella didn't look at it.
"Now tell me who you are?" Ella asked again.
"I'm your sister, and my name is Ann." The other party sighed. "We've been together since birth, but it's a pity you never found out I existed."
"My sister?" Ella frowned and asked rhetorically. To outsiders, Ella was talking to herself.
"Yes, I share the same body with you, but the dominance is yours."
"Why didn't you come out earlier?"
"I want to, too, but you don't realize my existence, you can't hear my voice, and I can't get out." Ann sighed again.
"Wait a minute, I think about it. You and I, sharing the same body, are we the dual personalities mentioned in the book? ”
"Not really!" Ann was visibly angry. "I said I was your sister! I've been with you, training together, suffering together, and I've been there when Morris hit you. It's not just you who accompanies Ressley, it's me......"
Resley.
It's been a long time since I've heard this name from anyone else. Ella's heart was touched by something, she remembered the gecko under Sophia's knife and the severed hand just now, and suddenly felt a chill.
"You're shaken. Is it beginning to pity the man who has just broken his hand? ”
"I didn't." Ella denied it, but her heart was inconsistent.
"How about killing that woman Maurice?"
"No!" Ella was shocked that Ann could talk about killing people so easily.
"She's been hurting us, hasn't she? Give me the body, I'll kill her, she deserves it. ”
"No need, she was the one who brought us out of the orphanage."
"Forget it, let's not discuss it. Ella, you know, the bastards in the lab building were right. They say that we are born killers...... Even if I don't kill her, sooner or later, you'll do it......"
Ann was right, and just three months later, Mrs. Morris died at home, with a broken bottle in her chest. Authorities came to investigate and determined that she had been stabbed in the heart and killed instantly, and the suspect was Mrs. Morris's boyfriend.
But this is not the case. The killer was not Mrs. Morris's boyfriend, but Ella. That day, Morris and her boyfriend got drunk, and her boyfriend asked Morris why he went to the orphanage to adopt a drag oil bottle.
Morris said drunkenly: "If it weren't for the money that was used to adopt the experiment, who would adopt her?" ”
It dawned on Ella that she had always respected the conscience of the human heart, and firmly believed that even Maurice would have a soft place somewhere in her heart.
But she was wrong, there were people in this world who had long since lost their souls, just a shell full of malice, emitting a disgusting rancid stench.
Maurice saw Ella at the corner of the stairs and grabbed her by the hair, trying to beat her like he had done before.
This time, Ella didn't choose to put it up, she picked up the wine bottle on the ground, smashed it, and stabbed her in the heart without hesitation.
Maurice fell to the ground, breathless, without a heartbeat, literally transformed into a skeleton.
Ella glanced at Morris's boyfriend, who was asleep on the couch, and threw the murder weapon beside him. Then walk down the creaking stairs and back to the attic and lie down in bed.
Finally a quiet night.
But, Lesley, I seem to be getting farther and farther away from you......
