The down-to-earth atmosphere of the "real door".

Whenever someone says the word "down-to-earth", I often think of the "woman in red" – because it meant something completely different to my childhood than it does today.

I remember that it was the late 80s of the last century, I was in elementary school, and there was no heating in the building where I lived; So after winter, every household has to light a briquette stove.

A newly-married resident living on the first floor caused a leak and carbon monoxide poisoning because he didn't get the flue right.

Although the man's brain was damaged, he managed to save his life; The woman, on the other hand, lost her vital signs and was judged to be clinically dead by the hospital.

The family probably didn't give up and got her body back from the hospital, and said that there is a folk method - if you dig a pit in the ground and put the person face down in the pit, let her absorb the breath from the earth and feel the power of life, it is possible to come back to life.

They call this "down-to-earth"!

And then, they did—they dug a hole in an old and ruined flower bed in the middle of the building, and washed the woman's face down and put it in.

The woman was newly married, so her clothes were all red, like a fire, lying quietly in the dark brown earth.

When I go to and from school, I have to pass by the flower bed, because I feel magical, I always stretch my neck to look in; But I was very scared, like beating a small drum—for fear that the woman in red would suddenly rise up and grab me, like a ghost story told by an old man in my childhood, and then pull me into the pit, and never get out again.

Because I thought she would wake up, I asked my father during that time: When will she wake up? The father laughed and said only one thing: That's superstition......

Finally, the "red fire" still failed to ignite.

Two or three days later, she disappeared from the pit - of course, she was dragged to the crematorium by her family, and it really became a fire.

The pit, however, remained until it was demolished many years later during the renovation of the building.

Sometimes, when I can't sleep at night, I turn sideways and look down: in the darkness, the floor seems to be a big pit, and she, still lying in it, wearing that red dress, has her back together - exhale, inhale, exhale, exhale, inhale......
