Chapter 2: First Arrival on Mars
After half a month of boring recruit training, we got on the spacecraft and went to the Mars base to officially enter the company to report.
After carrying our recruit spacecraft into the artificial atmosphere of Mars, it deliberately slowly crossed over the capital of Mars, so that our group of recruits who went to Mars for the first time had a good look at the appearance of the Martian capital.
Mars originally had no atmosphere, and it was the first and last time that human beings used their own power to completely change nature, and this super project spanning more than ten generations transformed the first artificial colonized planet for mankind. Later, humanity gradually decayed, and no longer had the ability to transform an entire planet.
In addition to the bustling Martian capital on the ground, the wanderers in the atmosphere followed us all the way, peddling their various goods and showing all kinds of useful things in the troops, which we looked at curiously by sticking to the windows.
But our ship continued to move slowly, leaving the wanderers and merchants behind, and we flew to the south pole of Mars for most of the day, and finally came to a large circular valley in the southern hemisphere of Mars, which was the military camp.
From the sky, our camp is surrounded by a ring of artificial forest, and the outer ring is a large expanse of the traditional red desert of Mars.
The spaceship finally landed and put us down, and Captain Feng Qiu loudly commanded us to line up, and then quickly advanced from the airport to the camp, and the huge white camp complex in the distance was already visible to the naked eye.
We made our way to the camp in our basic exoskeleton gear, and the distance of 20 kilometers was quickly reached.
Several Imperial soldiers were already waiting for us at the gate of the camp. I noticed that there was also a major officer among them. He had a shining medal on his chest that was the envy of our group of recruits, and when we arrived at the camp gate, we were lined up neatly, and the major officer told us to rest in place.
Just after ten minutes of rest, Feng Qiu gave an order, and we immediately stood upright, and then the whole team was aligned, and the mechanical exoskeletons of more than 100 people in our recruit company made a neat sound, and it only took twenty seconds to finish the formation, which was the result of our hard practice on the moon. The major nodded in satisfaction, then gave a brief welcome and we entered the barracks.
In the courtyard of the barracks, there were several more junior officers, these were the officers who had come to claim the soldiers of their respective branches.
People keep being called by name. Following the departure of their new commanders, the captain of our mechanic corps happened to be the captain of the recruit Feng Qiu, so I stayed where I was.
After the soldiers of the other branches were led out by the commander, they did not rest for a moment, and went to the airport along the way they came.
Some of them began to get discouraged, and I learned later that they were combat infantry and medics, and the new battalion came out and went straight to the Rosha system, which meant the front line.
The Rosha people were originally humans, and when humans first discovered this place, there were no intelligent creatures here, and humans began to colonize here.
Since the Rosa and Phil systems are in completely different worlds, they are habitable, but they are filled with various doses of cosmic rays. After human beings began to colonize, they began to mutate from the first generation of babies, and then accumulated from generation to generation, and finally after a hundred generations, their physiognomy and body shape were completely different from traditional humans, and even the number of chromosomes had changed, and they and humans had been reproductively isolated.
The Rosha people have a lot of hair all over their bodies, much like the orangutans of our ancestors, and the military scorns refer to them as orangutans.
The humans of Phil are slender and have blue skin, and they are blue elf-like creatures.
Humans did not find aliens, but created two "aliens" by themselves, Phil and Rosha. As the differences grew, Phil and Rocha's culture began to become different from the solar system, and the conflict became more and more intense, and Phil and Rocha even denied the fact that humans were their ancestors, raising the issue to the level of race.
In the end, everything went to war.
The three children of the same origin eventually fell into killing each other, and everything was no different from what primitive people did on earth.
Just like mankind before, the scale of the war is getting bigger and bigger, from the local friction of one or two satellites, to the competition for important star orbits, and the fight for resource planets, and finally the war is moving towards a comprehensive escalation.
Today, the war is so fierce that these soldiers, who have only received 15 days of recruit training and have just learned to stand in line and shoot, are immediately on the front line.
We mechanics will continue to train at the Martian camp for a while, and Captain Feng Qiu arranged a dormitory for us.
We quickly arrived at the dormitory, and had just put away our luggage, thinking that we could rest for a few minutes and relieve the fatigue of a day on the spaceship, when the assembly announcement immediately sounded.
As I ran towards the meeting area, I wondered if I could eat. The transport ship flew all day, and it turned out that no food or water was delivered. We all know that the back warehouse is full of supplies, and it is inevitable to complain in our hearts that we will not be given food and drink.
Later, as soon as we got off the ship, the transport ship set sail, and we realized that the supplies were for the front-line soldiers to save their lives, and we immediately felt guilty for our complaints.
But I guessed wrong, the emergency gathering has nothing to do with eating, we got in the car and drove to the desert area on the outskirts of the camp, this is a desert area, the sand of Mars is different from the fine sand on Earth, the particles are much larger, and it is more appropriate to call it sand.
"Everyone, take off the exoskeleton!" At the officer's order, we neatly took off our exoskeleton equipment, and then the officer asked us to march 5 kilometers in the desert in the most primitive state.
Everyone complained, but the officer was right next to him, and the complaint was limited to the level of lip service.
The desert of Mars is different from the Earth, the temperature on Mars is very low, and it is very physically exhausting to walk in the difficult sand and gravel, sweat flows out quickly, and it is quickly cooled by low temperatures, which makes everyone very uncomfortable. And we had no water to drink, and we felt dehydrated halfway through the run.
My throat was burning like fire at the moment, and I fantasized that someone had brought water, but our body-worn hydration system was on the exoskeleton, and we had nothing but the cotton vest on our body at the moment.
I felt like I was dying, but none of my comrades-in-arms gave up, so I could only grit my teeth and persevere.
We actually know very well why we have such a tight training schedule, although we are mechanics, but if we can be on the front line for a day in the morning, we may be able to repair one more mecha tank, and the possibility of victory will be one point greater.
By the time we finally finished the five-kilometer march on the sand, everyone was tired and sticking out their tongues. I don't even have the strength to stand in line. But the officer didn't let us rest for a moment, and we got in the car and went back to the base.
