Chapter 8: Donner and Kling
"Humph!"
Kulic snorted coldly, and the expression on his face became very cold when he heard Donner mention the previous incident.
"Don't even think about it, you call me brothers, and you want to marry my daughter. β
Donner stepped out of his chair and walked over to Kuric.
"I can't say that, I'm ten years younger than you, what's not to do?"
"You old cow eats tender grass, if you want to quarrel, we can continue the topic. β
Donner spread his hands and said that it didn't matter, two years later, this kind of thought faded, he just saw a photo of Kurich's daughter by chance, and he was shocked to have this thought.
As a result, Kuric turned his face directly, the original old friend had not seen each other for more than two years, and now the relationship has eased a lot.
"Downer, I'm getting ready to retire. β
KuliΔ was a little melancholy, then found a chair and sat down, not thinking of himself as an outsider at all.
Donner sat back in his seat, and then said with a straight face: "The person who works this sea, fifty years old is still in the prime of life, and you are not the money-greedy Morgan I know when you retire so early." β
"Clint is dead. β
"What's going on?"
Looking at the sadness in Morgan's eyes, he still couldn't believe that such a shrewd and strong old sailor would die like this.
Twenty years ago, Donner was a little devil who yearned for the sea, and it was certainly not surprising that he would do some crazy things at this rebellious age.
So, he secretly climbed aboard Kulich's ship and hid in the warehouse for three days, just for the sake of his dream of sailing, and of course, that time, completely dispelled his dream of sailing.
Donner was found out on the fourth day when the sailors of the COCO inspected the warehouse, but Kulich did not blame him, but promised that he could follow the voyage, and if he still wanted to sail, he would become a sailor who was begging for a living at sea.
But when it was almost half a month of sailing.
A violent storm swept across the Atlantic Ocean without warning, and the COCO was forced to stay in Madeira, a natural harbor leeward, where the entire crew took refuge on the island.
But not all ships were so lucky, and Donner watched as two large galleons in the distance smash their masts in the thunder and lightning of the storm and were swept to the bottom of the ocean by monstrous waves.
The next day, more than a dozen bodies were found on the beach, along with one survivor, that is, Klin.
Cling was the only survivor of the shipwreck, perhaps because of luck or because he was the man with the best body and the longest in the water, and survived.
Clint lost all his friends and brothers in that accident, and since then he has become somewhat reticent, and the man who had gone to sea with dreams finally cooled down and became a sailor on the COCO.
Being able to fight is what people say the most about him, and in countless encounters with pirates, if it weren't for the support of Klin, it would have been impossible to wait for the arrival of the British Royal Navy, with wisdom, strategy, courage, and strength.
Prestige eventually propelled him to the position of first mate, and loyalty allowed Kuric to trust him with everything in his hands, making him the best helper.
Donner, who saw that great storm, extinguished the heart of sailing, all dreams about sailing are just imagination, and surviving on this sea does not depend on ability, nor blood, but luck.
"The Coco was confronted by pirates on its last voyage, and we lost seven men in that battle, and we rested in Nassau and re-recruited seven sailors to get on board, and sailed all the way until this one. β
KuliΔ fell into the memory.
"What's going on?" Downer was a little impatient, and the news that Clint had become his first acquaintance on the voyage made him angry.
"It was a rebellion, six of the seven were pirates, they mixed into the ships, and after gaining our trust, they drugged everyone one night the other day, and Clint and two other sailors were killed on the island of Wol. Luckily, Gordon was able to kill the pirates and save me. β
Kulic sighed and continued: "I don't know if I'll be so lucky next time, so I decided to go back to my hometown, buy a farm, buy some black slaves, and I should be able to live a decent life." β
Donner felt a little panicked in his heart, and finally could only turn into a sentence: "It's time for the old man to retire, go back and take care of your daughter." β
"Downer, I've decided to hand over the ship to Gordon, and I hope you'll trust him as much as you trust me in the future, and I want you to help me if you run into any trouble. β
Donner turned his gaze to Gordon, such a young and energetic face, as if he had just seen himself at sea.
A person's face and temperament can reflect many things, and Gordon's temperament instantly convinced Donner that he was an honest man, and over the years, Kuric has never looked at the wrong person, has he?
"Mr. Donner, it's a good thing. Gordon began.
Donner nodded: "If you encounter something that can't be solved in the future, you can discuss with me and treat Morgan's ship well." β
After the two took their leave from the exchange, they went to the tavern to prepare for a drink.
The shabby canvas ceiling, the low wooden tables and stools, and a small room for buying wine were such a humble tavern.
Two wooden beer mugs give these people a lot of comfort to those who live at sea.
Here, people drink ale, boast to each other about the harvest of the voyage, the encounter, or see the ** laughing on the sidelines, pay some silver coins and pounds, you can get a night of spring supper.
The arrival of Gordon and Kuric brought together the crew of the Coco, who had been drinking here, and there was no difference in status between captain and sailor, just a group of people who were running around the sea.
After drinking two glasses, Kulich looked at Gordon on the side and whispered, "The chicks here are rare, do you want to try them?" β
As he spoke, he glanced at the house not far away.
Gordon followed his gaze, it was a small two-story building with a lot of red paint peeling, and under the stairs stood a somewhat scantily dressed woman, with a delicate face, her hair scattered and smiling stupidly, but there was no flattery in her eyes, only a little helplessness and bitterness.
Just one look instantly made his heart hurt, there is no shortage of thieves, robbers, **, these lowest characters in the various ports of the sea.
This is the pathetic nature of this society, forcing good people to become prostitutes, chickens and dogs to steal.
