Chapter 5 Journey I
Benjamin is an urban elf from the port of Gentil.
Before he was "ransomed", he was in the same condition as all city elves of his age - illiterate, without parents, given a random human name, working with humans, and finally taking a fraction of human wages...... That's how he's been here for so many years.
Aside from the occasional visit to a few elven elders in the slums to listen to stories, he didn't feel any connection to the elven race. What's more, his face is very ugly, and he is very different from the legendary handsome elves...... Benjamin has always wondered if there is some misunderstanding in this, such as ...... His race is actually a goblin or something, and goblins have pointed ears...... If he could, he wanted to be a goblin.
But the humans around him stubbornly believe that he is the "elf", because then they can spit on the "elf" and thus get a false sense of satisfaction. However, Benjamin is loyal to the slums, and although the people here are cold, he can grow up smoothly because of these people. Especially those elven elders, each of them is old, but they are still trying to keep the tribe from falling apart...... If there are still tribes.
"The tribe is in the heart of every elf."
City elves are allowed to own "personal property", which may seem stronger than slaves, but this is not the case - the property of city elves is not protected, and anyone who sees what they are holding in their hands can simply snatch it. The city elves want to carry something, and they have to hide from everyone in the middle of the night, like thieves. You must know that the slaves can still have food, a roof and clothes to cover their bodies (the requirements of the church, nominally not slaves but debtors), but the city elves have nothing.
The only thing in this world that is still warm to them is the church.
The Church of Good God clearly stipulates that killing city elves is equivalent to murder, and finally distinguishes city elves from livestock at the level of gods. The murderer cannot enter the kingdom of the good gods after death, which is the fundamental reason for protecting the city elves from being slaughtered. In addition, when the church gives food and clothing, it does not deliberately avoid the city elves.
Speaking of which, the best for them in the church turned out to be the Silvermoon Church - because for the Silvermoon, it's not that the city elves are garbage, but all but a limited number of elven races are garbage! Since it's all garbage, it doesn't matter if it's up or down. So when the city elves went to the Silvermoon Church to receive alms, she didn't see it at all. And the general kindness of the elven clan to the point of being a little naïve also made it impossible for them to refuse the hand stretched out in front of them.
However, when the ransom buyers do appear, Benjamin is glad from the bottom of his heart that he is indeed a city elf and has the qualifications to be "ransomed" - although he does not know when he became a slave.
Under the protection of those people, Benjamin was able to walk on the road for the first time with his property in his hands. Although the onlookers still looked at him with cold eyes, their throats fluttered, but they swallowed their saliva instead of spitting it on Benjamin's body—and Benjamin felt that this alone was worth the vote.

He received a cake of grains, a simple map, and a set of thick clothes...... Until that time, Benjamin was still in a trance, and then the journey began. The entire route marked on the map can be described in one sentence - "through the forest, up the snowy mountains, to the land of hope", and there is no real road in the middle!
But when he first walked into the forest, he felt only a deep fear of those who grew straight, and there was not the slightest "elven joy...... I'm definitely a goblin!
The journey began in such a daze, and it was not Benjamin who went on the road alone, and almost a hundred people rushed into the entire slum. This made him not lonely at all, and even busy to death. Benjamin's past job was as a porter on the docks, so he has a muscular physique that is rare among elves. So he was running before and after the whole journey, trying to help everyone, and there was no time to be sad.
"How can you be a goblin, you're a troll." The old elves always liked to make fun of him like this.
Benjamin could at least tell that the old elves were happy when they returned to the forest......
The elves' ranks were quickly reduced by a third for a variety of reasons - some old people saw a place with a good scenery and suddenly stopped leaving. He said, "Let's go, I want to die here," and left the group without hesitation. Benjamin was helpless, the oldest elves still possessed valuable knowledge of the forest, while these old men were born city elves and knew nothing about the outside world...... It will only become a burden to the team.
Benjamin and they don't see it - when the group leaves, the "ransom buyers" reappear and forcibly take the old people away by various means. From the point of view of the city elves, they really don't have a few years to live; But from the elves' point of view, they are still young! Take care of it for a few years, and it's no problem to live another human lifespan. Experienced and precipitated laborers are a lot of wealth!
The advantage of the elven race is longevity, and the disadvantage is that the lazy attitude to life completely squandered this advantage.
Unlike the City Elves, they also have the advantage of longevity, and at the same time they have developed a tradition of hard work. The Chinese people all know that the hard-working, self-reliant nation that understands it cannot be defeated by any strength, and sooner or later it will rise again!
The "old people" give up voluntarily, but there are also some city elves who have lived well in the past, and they don't want to leave the city at all.
So as soon as the "watchdogs" left, they immediately escaped into the forest. Some of those people are gangsters, whistleblowers, and usurers in the elven district, almost all of whom are doglegs who help humans exploit the city elves. Benjamin chose to sneer at these people - now that the group of city elves has disappeared, what do they do to please the master behind them? Do you really think the host is very kind?
Benjamin knew they didn't necessarily understand...... It's just that compared to the unknown ahead, they are still more sure of how to please their masters.
The last type of city elves left the party for more complex reasons, some went to find elven cousins; Some people want to go to the pastor, thinking that God can help solve all problems; There is even a girl who can't let go of her crush...... Secretly return to the city.
Benjamin wasn't in the mood to care about those people, because he was leaving all the people who thought he would be better off without the group—in other words, all the able-bodied guys—and now he was more burdened.
"I'm dying of hunger, can I give me food?"
Benjamin, who was carrying a large bag and was too tired, looked up in shock when he heard the voice, and he saw dirty creatures lying under the tree in front of him, and they were trembling and reaching out to him.
