Chapter 189: Sending Questions
I saw that on the splendid hall, the four elders sat in a fan shape in the front, majestically surrounding Luo Quan's opposite, as if a solemn judgment, the opposite side had not yet spoken, and the invisible coercion had already suppressed the qi in Luo Quan's body to fluctuate a little.
Faced with this scene, I also saw it in my eyes, and I was anxious in my heart, but I couldn't step forward to help him, so I had to hang on the girder, cross my legs and back my hands, and rub the fire phoenix golden feather in my palm to shine.
"Uh, let's get started." I only heard the great elder wearing a red gold-inlaid monk's hat and the appearance of a Nyingma sect gently knocking on the floor with the peachwood cane in his hand, and he whispered angrily, and he had already suppressed all the whispers inside and outside the hall. In addition to intimidating everyone, including Luo Quan, he also had the right to control the scene.
Without a bit of nonsense, as soon as the Great Elder opened his mouth, he asked Luo Quan a question that must be answered in Tibetan Buddhist practice—asking him to explain what he thought was the main purpose of a monk's practice.
When I accompanied Luo Quan to review temporarily, I also knew a little about the background of this question - similar to the college entrance examination complex in our current world, we can start from the background of the question and use specific situational analogies to answer. For example, if we take the Nyingma teachings as an example, which are mainly divided into nine times and three parts, then we can summarize the gist of the upper, middle, and lower levels of exercises by interspersing them.
Which nine times exactly? That is, the three vehicles of "shravaka", "enlightenment", "bodhisattva" and so on; Then there are the outer tantric three vehicles, such as "the continuation of things", "the continuation of actions", and "the continuation of yoga"; Finally, there are the supreme three vehicles such as "Maha Yoga (Great Yoga)", "Aru Yoga (Yoga of Classes)", and "Ati Yoga (Yoga of the Extreme)".
Among them, Atiyoga, or the "Great Perfection Method", is the Nyingma school that pays the most attention to the practice of the mind, which advocates that the human heart is pure and pure, the three bodies are perfect, not pretentious, and self-made, but it is quite close to Luo Quan's temperament.
So, a good Luo Quan, relying on the basic qi and mind methods I taught him, mobilized his internal qi, fused the Nyingma teachings instilled in his mind, and went through his mind like a marquee, and already said the key to his practice in an orderly manner-
"I thought that the so-called cultivation was nothing more than the elimination of karma and purification...... After all, you can prove your nature and complete the Buddha's deeds. ”
Relying on the accumulation of repeated reading of Buddhist scriptures, he stubbornly used the proposition of the "Great Perfection Method" that "the body is pure, the self-nature is suddenly formed, and the great compassion is all around", combined with his own views on life and reincarnation, and expanded and extended to the essence of his own practice.
If we look at this by today's standards, whether it is the appropriateness of the exposition, the proper citation, or the accuracy and conciseness of the induction, it has reached an impeccable standard, and what is even more commendable is that borrowing the ideas of the "Dzogchen Law" as a summary of one's own exposition is even more miraculous.
Sure enough, after a short period of silence, the first great elder in the red gold-inlaid monk's hat first raised his thin withered hand and applauded Luo Quan heavily, and the remaining three elders also looked sideways with their heads bowed, showing a look of approval on their faces.
It seems that this first question should be fine.
Next, it was the turn of the old man in the red and black monk's robes who was sitting on the left side, next to the elder in the red and gold monk's hat just now, to ask a question. Seeing his outfit that was similar to that of Ratsuen, I recognized him as a representative of the Sakya sect.
I saw that he saw that Luo Quan was a disciple of his own school, and his long gray-white eyebrows were raised, and he really raised a question about this school: let Luo Quan evaluate the system of inheriting the classics.
As soon as I heard this question, I immediately realized the deep hostility that the Great Elder of my sect had towards Luo Quan, a foreign boy, from the bottom of my bones. Why? You must know that the Sakya faction has always used the method of inheritance passed down from generation to generation in the family.
Starting from the famous "Sakya Five Patriarchs", the first ancestor Gongga Ningbo, the second ancestor Sonam Tsimmo, the third ancestor Drakpa Gyaltsen, and the fourth ancestor Sakya Panditta? Gongga Gyaltsen, and then at the invitation of the Mongolian prince Kuoduan, sent his uncle Pandita to Liangzhou for talks, and made important contributions to the unification of Tibet by the Yuan Dynasty. The Gyaltsen sect all come from large families with a deep understanding of Buddhism.
Not to mention that for thousands of years, none of the countless young talents who have stood out from the Tibetan cultivation families and famous families have not enjoyed the Buddha-nature edification of the family since childhood, and have made achievements on the road of Buddhism.
Only the poor little Shami Luo Quan, who was born in Nanzhao, actually overcame all the obstacles all the way, passed the test, and came to the front of the hall to challenge his authority as an elder from a famous family!
Although this background knowledge was instilled in Sharon since she was a child by her mother, who was obsessed with the history of the rise and fall of Tibetan Buddhism, and she had the time to tell me about it, Luo Quan may not know it, but he felt the unfair treatment he received in the Meili Snow Mountain Monastery.
However, Luo Quan, who had erupted in the first place, did not respond for a long time after hearing this question, which was tantamount to a provocative question, which surprised everyone, including me, and made the Sakya Grand Elder who asked the question impatient.
Seeing that the elders of the Nyingma Sect were impressed by him and spoke very highly of him, while the closed disciples he brought out by himself were ruthlessly brushed down, how can you teach this old man to endure it?!
So, I saw that the elder thought that Luo Quan was stage frightened, and he stroked his long beard with his own hands, his crane hair was lightly soothing, his eyes were slightly closed, and his monk's robe was flicked, and he simply threw a series of questions at Luo Quan one after another. The purpose is obvious, asking questions openly, secretly, he is simply scolding Luo Quan for being unclean, don't be embarrassed here.
Seeing the other party so difficult, even Sharon who was sitting on the beam and eavesdropping was a little unbearable, and her plump chest suddenly rose and fell with anger, if it wasn't for me holding it down in time, I'm afraid that this straightforward and fair girl would be a can't help it, and she jumped down from the hall to hug it.
Looking at Na Luo Quan again, his heart was still like water, and he didn't move at all, but his tongue was full of lotus flowers, and the great elder who was like a river in his mouth finished speaking impassionedly, and then swallowed his saliva lightly, and spoke without being humble or arrogant.
Although he was unhurried, he was very clear: First of all, he vigorously affirmed the important contribution of the Sakya sect to the development of Buddhist culture in Tibetan areas, and played an important role in protecting and promoting Tibetan Buddhism.
Immediately after that, he changed his words and said in fierce words that the Sakya school was bound by tradition, paying too much attention to the translation and debate of the scriptures, and neglecting to comprehend the meaning of the scriptures in their practice.
For example, Luo Quan said: The "Tao Fruit Method" in Esoteric Buddhism believes that there are three levels of practicing Buddhism. The first level is to give up "non-blessings" and "bad karma", to do less bad things, and to concentrate on doing good deeds, so that you can be reborn in the three good pleasures in the next life.
The second level is to stop being subject to all visible or intangible things, so that afflictions and sufferings cannot arise and people can be liberated from the suffering of reincarnation.
And the third level is to get rid of "all views, abandon the thinking and opinions of ordinary people, and take the middle way, so as to reach the realm of the wise."
In this way, according to the Great Elder, isn't the emphasis on portal origin contrary to the exposition of the highest level of cultivation in the "Dao Fruit Method"?
As soon as the words fell, the Great Elder, who was still aggressive just now, was suddenly speechless. And for the time being, as a gentleman on the beam, I couldn't help but secretly marvel at his wit.
Using the doctrine of one's own faction to attack the flaws of one's own system is simply "using the spear of the son and the shield of the attacker" Yes! Well done!
Seeing that the elder in the red and black trimmed monk's robe was so angry that he collapsed on the back of the chair without saying a word, the elder in the white monk's robe on the side had to laugh lightly and stand up and say:
"This son is familiar with the scriptures and classics of various factions, and he can also answer the questions of the two elders fluently, which is really rare, so the old man will join in the fun, and also give a question to test him."
In other words, I have already dropped a "difficult problem", which is roughly to ask Luo Quan to talk about the difference between the "Mahamudra" in Sutra and Tantra.
Why did this elder come up with this question? Just because he was none other than the Great Elder of the Kagyu School at that time. At this point, without him having to report himself, Sharon and I could easily tell his sect from his outfit that closely resembled the Hindu tradition of wearing white monk's robes.
When I helped Luo Quan to review in a surprise review before, I also heard a little that this Kagyu school mainly adopts the method of oral transmission, and in practice, since ancient times, it has focused on self-cultivation and majored in Mahamudra. And this mudra has a clear distinction between manifest and secret.
Let's start with the Mahamudra, which is a method of cultivating the mind, which requires the practitioner to dwell in one state of mind and not distinguish between good and evil, beautiful and ugly, in order to attain meditation. The Esoteric Mahamudra is a series of self-cultivation methods, and the Tantric Mahamudra is based on the dual luck of empty music, which is divided into the Taiping Seal, the Empty Music Mahamudra and the Bright Mahamudra.
Its main goal is to reach a supreme state through the cultivation of the human body's breath, pulse, and heart.
Luo Quan and I have both read those classics, and what I know, Luo Quan naturally knows very well. It's just that he didn't answer this "sending question" right away, but bowed deeply to the kind elder, and after giving the other party a face, he confidently explained the difference between the two sealing techniques, which was even much more detailed than I knew.
What is commendable is that while Luo Quan explained, he also carefully demonstrated to everyone about each seal, the standard of the technique, even the inspection of the Kagyu faction of the onlookers, couldn't help whispering on the side, even if I didn't listen, I also knew that those guys were amazed, and even they couldn't switch the seal so skillfully, how could it get to Luo Quan's hands, and the action could be so skillful.
Hehe, for more than half a month, in the days when you slept a lot, Luo Quan, this guy, never sleeped, forgot to sleep and eat to improve the secret method, and almost never stopped.
Just rushing to this force, I think, as long as the conditions allow, there should be no scriptures that he can't remember after reading them, right? Probably.
Finally, the next step is the last face-to-face question. Tomb Hunter East White
