Chapter 6: Heavenly Attack
"Oooo Suddenly the sound of hurried footsteps upstairs woke Draenor, who had been wandering away from his sleep, and he instinctively grabbed a broom and was about to defend himself, only to see Vikily running down from the stairs, her hair still messy, as if she had just been woken up by something.
"Idiot, it's me!" Vicilico looked at the broom raised by Draenor and complained with a smile, but then her expression immediately became serious, she clapped her hands and commanded Stella,
"Stella, wake up! We're in trouble. ”
"I'm here, miss, what's going on?" Stella asked, tilting her head.
Before Viklily could answer her, a loud steam whistle sounded outside the window, and Draenor decided it was definitely some kind of alarm.
"Heavenly strike, those beasts from the south will be coming soon. Stella, come and give me a hand. Vickyrico said as she changed into a uniform with Stella's help.
The outfit was clearly a specially made battle garment, and Draenor, a former soldier, knew it well: a mighty coat that didn't rise to the knees. A tall and stiff collar. Pockets for portable access to ammunition and cold weapons. There are also leggings for easy movement and long-legged stiff boots, which are combat uniforms that only senior commanders can equip.
"You have such elaborate clothes?" Draenor couldn't help but sigh.
"yes, that's amazing, I still have a nice restaurant." Vickily replied to Draenor in an ironic tone, and she skillfully and quickly tied up her long braided hair with ribbons, a process that was so quick that it even made a little suspicious of her own braiding.
"Soldier, you're here to help, too." Draenor heard Viklico's call and ran over in small steps, Viklico stood by the fireplace and pulled some mechanism, only to hear the friction of the gears, and the crystal lamp on the ceiling quickly lowered.
"Listen, that might be a little complicated." Vicilico pointed to the inside of the crystal lamp and said to Draenor. Draenor realized that the crystal lamp he had stared at before going to bed contained so many complex mechanisms.
"This row of levers, from left to right, push forward in turn, and wait for the first one to be tightened before pushing the next one. Then there's this gear, or a wheel or something, there's a grip on it, and when the lever is all pushed into place, grab the grip and turn it clockwise! It's up to you! "For some reason, Vicilico seems comfortable entrusting this complex task to Draenor." When I got back to my room and called you, I started to do it step by step, got it? ”
"Understood!" For a moment, Draenor felt as if he was back on the battlefield where he had received orders, and he couldn't believe that this girl, who looked nearly eight years younger than him, could be so calm, determined, and skillful in the face of battle.
"Miss, I can do this job." Stella didn't seem to trust Draenor that much, and it seemed to her that it would be more appropriate to do the task with her own mechanical operation. If you are someone else, you may not be careful with such a test. The task of patience and precision operation is left to a large man.
"No, believe this soldier, he can do it well." Viklico looked into Stella's eyes and said firmly, "As for you, Stella, when you are sure that all the surrounding residents have retreated, shout to the ceiling." ”
With that, Vikily took a burning torch from the fireplace and turned to go upstairs.
Draenor stood in front of the crystal lamp's machine, waiting for Viklico's orders, and Stella walked quickly to the windows and opened the curtains. It was only then that Draenor realized that it was already pouring rain outside, and a few lightning bolts were striking every few seconds. Probably because the high-decibel sirens made him ignore too small movements.
Draenor looked out the window at the building, he didn't know what Vickylic meant by "Skystrike" and "Beasts of the South", but he didn't need to know either. Because he knew that the only thing he could do on the battlefield was to follow orders.
The house trembled at a sudden tremor out of nowhere, and Draenor remained staring firmly at the shadows left by the lightning in the buildings outside the window. He suddenly noticed that every lightning bolt seemed to leave a shadow on the building, and after a few lightning bolts, a few buildings even disappeared completely.
Just then, Draenor saw the shadow of a bird in the night sky gradually flying towards the window. It took him nearly ten seconds to see the true face of the "bird shadow": it was not a bird at all, but a primate with huge leather wings! The monster had a lean body like a monkey, but it had a fierce head like a hyena, covered in long black hair, and the huge leather wings behind it carried it towards the window with gliding and sprinting speeds. With a dull thud, the monster slammed headlong into the glass and fell to the ground, leaving a large crack in the mouth of the bowl.
Then, the second, the third, the monsters gradually increased. In less than ten seconds, the monster was already flying in the air in groups, and from a distance, it seemed like a black fog had floated out of the window!
Draenor couldn't contain the trembling of his hands, but he still waited for Viklico's command. The surrounding glass shattered little by little, and seeing that it was immediately impossible to resist the attack of the monster, Stella suddenly turned her head and shouted upstairs, "It's okay! Miss! ”
Hearing the sound of machinery and beasts screaming from upstairs, Vikirico pushed open the upstairs door and shouted to Draenor, "Now!"
Draenor pushed the lever step by step following the steps he had repeated in his head countless times, and each time a lever snapped, a window was covered in metal armor. As he slowly turned the gears, the room shook violently like an earthquake, followed by a gradually noticeable sense of weightlessness.
Draenor suppressed his trembling nerves and struggled to keep turning the gears at a constant speed. After about two or three hundred turns, the surroundings finally calmed down with the last crash and loud tremors.
The metal armor on the window was retracted, and the building was familiar again, only it seemed to get darker.
"It's safe, we're underground now, they're fine." Vicilico explained to Draenor.
The two of them froze in place and gasped for a few breaths, only to realize that this was finally over. Draenor turned and Viklico punched each other, seemingly unconsciously and naturally.
"Yo, you're pretty skilled." Viklily praised.
"Haha, occupational disease, we have to bump fists every time we complete a task." Draenor laughed to himself, only to realize that Viklico's coat had been splattered with red liquid, giving off a strange fishy smell.
"What were you doing upstairs just now?" Draenor asked.
"Huh? Catch their attention. The girl replied as a matter of course.
"They? That kind of thing?" Draenor pointed out the window, "Why didn't you tell me in the first place that this house was a giant lift?" Isn't it all solved in the first place, why take such a big risk?"
Vicilico gritted her teeth and said to Draenor, "Listen, I know it's going to be like a nightmare, but I don't have a choice, I have to do it before I make sure all the inhabitants and buildings are evacuated underground."
"But you could die on the roof!" Draenor still reproached her. "If you don't hear Stella's voice and come back to the house in time, I may accidentally activate the mechanism at any time, and then I will lock you out of the roof window!"
"Isn't human life equally important, if they still have the possibility of dying outside?" "If no one had stepped forward to get their attention, half of them would have served their meal long before we went underground." ”
Draenor didn't know what to say for a while, but he knew in his heart that if he knew the situation upstairs, he would never allow a teenage girl to stand alone on the roof of the building and attract the attention of so many terrifying monsters.
"But if it were me, the probability of death would not be so great." Vickirico continued what she had said, then took off her blood-stained coat and threw it into the stove.
"Let's rest a little longer, we'll be off in two hours." Vickyrico turned her head to Draenor again in a gentle voice, and shuffled up the stairs with tired steps.
