Chapter Seventy-Four: The Night of the Hunt
[The following is a legend recorded by the Canaanites]
The lys, or Lycos, are found all over the world, and are said to have originated from the distant continent of Abel, just like humans. They resemble brown-skinned, carnivorous humans who reveal their true nature on full moon nights when the aconitum is in full bloom, tearing off their skins and transforming into terrifying werewolves. Legend has it that in the western part of the Canaan Oroban, a terrible plague was once caused by the presence of werewolves.
"They are inhumane, brutal and greedy, and only hunting can give them peace." - The Nameless Exorcist.
[Half past four in the morning, north of Abel, the village of the Lycos]
The surrounding villagers lay on the ground as if distorted, their limbs twisted and extended, and sharp claws like blades grew from the ends of their fingers.
Sensing that something was wrong, Draenor let go of his left hand and kicked the deformed villager aside with his right foot. The village in front of him was shrouded in nightmares, and a dozen villagers were transformed into beasts with wolf heads and human bodies.
"Is this what the Licors really look like......
The beast at his feet crawled to his feet, raised its head and bit down on Draenor's shins. He quickly pulled away, raised the fire bolt in his right hand and aimed it at the bloody mouth,
"Boom!!"
Black liquid splashed in the air, and the monster was blown away by the impact. But it was only the beginning, and the beasts around him raised their bodies and struck at him again.
Vikirico's situation was not optimistic, and she watched as the leader Uno tore human skin, and he was prostrate on the ground, his hind legs slowly moving his body to the side, ready to attack her.
She took a deep breath and calmed down, only one side of the battle in front of her could win, she didn't know what the weakness of this strange creature was, but she knew she couldn't be mortally hurt - her blood medicine had long since run out.
The werewolf of the leader's incarnation was unusually large, and the shadow of Vikliko was imprinted in front of him like a fragile match.
"Shadows? That is to say......" Vicky noticed the warmth coming from behind her, and the clever plan of "the wolf's mouth escape" came to mind.
The leader fluttered his tail and flew towards Viklico, she leaned down and waited for the moment to close the distance, and quickly dodged and rolled sideways for a week, the werewolf could not turn in the air, and planted straight into the raging campfire and turned into a shuddering flame.
The beasts slowly approached with the flames bursting from the muzzle of Draenor's guns, and the distance was pulled in, so that the extended barrels could no longer pose a threat to them, and with no cold weapons at hand that could be useful, Draenor seemed to be in a difficult situation.
He slammed the muzzle of the gun into the mouth of a beast, unscrewed the screw on the side of the barrel and pulled the trigger sharply, and the explosion of the gun came from the arm, and the broken barrel exploded in the beast's mouth, and its broken body flew backwards, knocking down the other beasts.
"Melee? As you wish. Draenor turned his wrist and flipped the fire gun on its side, turning the valve into fourth gear.
The werewolves charged at him in a rage, and Draenor took a deep breath and pointed his hands on the wooden handles of the firebolts at them.
"Boom-boom!!!"
The blast of the explosion spread across the ground, and the beasts were burned into torches by the hot wave of air, and they crawled to the ground. Draenor was also knocked back into the open space because of the powerful explosive force, and the moment he fired the shot, he didn't grasp it steadily, and the forearm of his right hand was burned to the ground.
The gun magazine was already burning red, and even the joints of the wooden handles were a little charred, and Draenor knew that there was no way to rely on the gun anytime soon. The werewolves in front of him became denser and denser, and more than a dozen huge figures formed a group and approached him.
The fierce desire to survive sparked, and his heart was burned throughout. The fire spread through the bloodlines and everything in front of him began to blur, a feeling that Draenor was all too familiar, and if humans couldn't resist the beasts, leave the problem to the fire.
"The hunt has officially begun......"
A strange smile appeared on the corner of Draenor's mouth, and the white flames burned his entire body to charcoal, and his consciousness sank into a deep sleep, and the light of the white refining fire shone on the entire village.
The werewolves were stunned by the intense light, and the moment the light dissipated, a giant beast with flames rushed into the wolves. Like a demon creeping out of lava, it pinned the werewolves to the ground and tore them apart.
Vicilico turned and jumped onto the eaves, Jeanne disappeared into the jungle with Cooper, and Draenor turned into a beast, could it be any worse?
At some point, the bonfire on the right side had dimmed, and a huge blackened figure slowly got up and stood in the middle of the village, it was Uno who had been burned by the fire before. Its hair had turned to ashes, its burned skin was exposed, and its figure seemed to be even larger than before.
"That's bad luck...... Where is that woman!? Vicilico suddenly noticed that there was no figure around the campfire, and Agata didn't know where to flee.
Attracted by the scorching aura, Draenor shook off the wolves around him and rushed towards the shadow. The two beasts roared at each other, and the air trembled with the roar of the cloud-piercing stone.
Draenor was the first to rush out, knocking the werewolf Unno to the ground, claws clamping his arms tightly. The werewolf dodged Draenor's fangs and aimed at his neck, tearing off a piece of flesh alive.
Draenor's wound was bleeding hotly, but it was completely healed in the blink of an eye, and he flung his claws at the werewolf's head, sending several broken teeth into the air.
In the darkness of the night, fiery beasts and charred werewolves fought together, broken teeth, fur, blood, and the earth was filled with cruelty.
"Stop me for a moment!!"
An angry roar came from the edge of the warehouse, and the two beasts stopped fighting and turned their eyes to the man.
I saw Vikiriko holding the baby in her arms, standing at the door of the warehouse with a spear in her right hand, and the spearhead was aimed straight at Agata who had passed out on the ground.
"Draenor, be honest with me if you don't want to die." Vickyric's blood-red eyes were fixed on Draenor as he turned into a beast, and he felt stiff and unable to move, and froze in place.
The charred werewolf struggled to escape from Draenor's restraints. It crawled behind it, turning its head to see what seemed to be coming back to its senses, and its body shrunk back into human form.
"Ahem...... Ahem, please, spare my children and wife, we won't pester you anymore! Uno, who had turned back into a human, fell to his knees and pleaded with Vekirico, blood gushing from his broken teeth and running down the corners of his mouth.
"I felt something was wrong from the beginning, this kid wasn't even a year old, right? How could you fall from such a deep dry well and fall into the barrel unscathed? Vikiriko pressed her finger against Agata by the throat.
ββ¦β¦ It was me, I put the child in a bucket and lowered it into the well as bait. We used Houttuynia cordata to cover the smell of our bodies, and we had people ambush around the city to prepare for an attack, but we didn't expect you to really save my child......" The woman cried with one arm over her face.
"Trust us! We haven't really hurt anyone yet, and we haven't eaten anyone! Uno fell prostrate on the ground and began to sob.
"Really? We found a gnawed arm at the door, how do you explain it? Vicky was unswayed by their actions. Their lives are indeed miserable, but they must survive as human beings no matter what, and if they hurt innocent passers-by, they can only be wild beasts. As for the beast, Vickyli has its own solution.
The woman gradually regained her composure, she raised the severed arm and opened her mouth unhurriedly, "That's my arm, it wasn't cut off by the pursuers...... I've been out of milk for a long time, so I can only eat my arm secretly from my husband, hoping that this will give me more to feed my son......"
Vikiriko recalled the details she had observed in the Empty City, where the stitches on the arm were sloppy and the cut was blurry, and it looked like she had hesitated during the injury.
"Well, then why take our companions in the bare bother?" Vikily was not weakened by compassion, and the spear in her hand was unwavering.
"All three of you are very young, only the gentleman is old, and if he continues with you, he will die one day, and we can only choose ......" The woman felt a burning heat in her throat, and did not dare to continue.
Although Draenor attacked in defence, the casualties of the villagers were irreparable. These people have not completely become beasts, and besides, the child is still young, and he cannot afford to lose his parents. Vekily thought for a moment, then turned to the leader and ordered
"Get me the biggest size of clothes I can wear. And the cradle in the room, take it out and move it to the exit of the jungle on my left hand, hurry! β
The villagers around them gradually came to their senses, and the leader hurriedly let them move, and moved the cradle to the junction of the village and the jungle as she ordered.
"Listen, the kid is still young, we won't hurt him, but it's better not to play any more tricks!" Vikiriko put away her spear and walked over to Draenor's stiff body with the baby in her arms. The villagers around her cautiously walked towards her with their clothes in their hands, and Vikili could stare at him with scarlet eyes, like a terrifying warning.
Taking advantage of the fact that the leader and the others did not act rashly, she quickly took out the bottle of "No. 32 Elixir" from her arms and put a few drops into Draenor's tongue.
The heat on the beast receded, and Draenor, who had regained his senses, struggled to tear open the wolf's skin and crawl out. Vikiriko took the shabby clothes handed by the villagers and handed them to Draenor.
Although a little dizzy, Draenor vaguely remembered what had happened before, and he quickly put on his clothes, picked up his gun and stood in front of Viklico.
"Listen, you're called Lycos for a reason, and if you try to hurt innocent people again, you'll be punished as you deserve!" Vicilico swung her spear and pointed in front of the crowd, her left arm clasping the adorable child.
The two of them slowly retreated towards the villagers until they approached the cradle at the entrance to the jungle, where Vikirico stroked the crying baby and gently placed it in the cradle, "Life is cruel, isn't it?" But you have to stay sane and grow up healthy......" Vicky left a faint kiss mark on the baby's forehead.
She pointed to Draenor's firebolt and shouted to the villagers who were walking slowly, "Listen, we'll leave now, but the child is still within range, and there is still a lot of prey in the jungle, so you can do it yourself!" β
With that, she turned and took a step, leading Draenor into the forest.
"Draenor, with your sense of smell, you should be able to smell Jeanne, where did she go?" Vickyrico asked as she raced ahead towards Draenor.
"Due south, although not as sensitive as her, she can still smell a little." Draenor also noticed an increase in his senses, and it seemed that after each transformation, he would get closer to the beast.
"My firearm is temporarily unusable, why do you say that kid is within our range?" Draenor was a little confused, if the lie was revealed, maybe the hunt would continue.
"I don't know what's going on with that firebolt, so I'll just say anything to scare them, and even if it works, I won't let you shoot at that kid!" Vicilico shouted at him.
"Of course I wouldn't have done that." Draenor thought to himself, no matter how big the mistakes of those villagers were, the child was always innocent, and hoped that the leader would take those villagers to mend their ways and continue to live like humans.
The nocturnal jungle seemed more mysterious, but Draenor didn't have time to think about the scary nocturnal creatures, he focused his attention on his nasal cavity, carefully tracking Jeanne's scent.
"It's not far away, it's just ahead!" Draenor shouted to Viklico, and the two of them made their way through the jungle to a wasteland, where Jeanne was standing beside Cooper.
"Mr. Delaenau! Your clothes ......" Jeanne had actually heard the loud roar coming from the village earlier, but seeing Draenor change her clothes and look haggard, she was completely sure of what was happening there.
"Those villagers have turned into wild beasts, they originally wanted to eat Cooper, but fortunately there is a little humanity, let's continue to walk while they are not chasing us!" Draenor walked over to Cooper's side, and the dwarf uncle lay on the ground like a toad.
"Uncle! It's time to play cards! Vicrily grabbed Cooper's ear and shouted, but the dwarf uncle shook his beard and got up.
"Hit! Today I won! Cooper excitedly rolled up his sleeves and looked aroundβwhere were the cards to be played!
"Hahahaha, it seems to be quite effective." Draenor was also amused by Cooper's reaction, and he was finally relieved to see that the people in front of him were still full of energy.
Vikiriko placed her backpack on the ground and took out the weapons of the people one by one. They were taken while everyone was asleep, and when Viklico stormed the warehouse and took Agata hostage, she also retrieved the weapons that had been taken.
"To cut a long story short, the villagers we met before were really not ordinary people, they tricked our sympathy and added mandala pollen to the soup. If Jeanne hadn't arrived in time, you might have become fodder for the beasts! Vicilico explained to Cooper, handing him the axe.
Then again, Jeanne did appear in front of her at the same time as Vicilico, could it be that her body circulation was as fast as her own? Draenor was a little confused, "Vicky, do you remember how Jeanne woke up?" βγ
Vikirico pursed her lips, reached out and pulled a metal prop out of her backpack and shook it, the jingle crunch reached her ears, and Draenor remembered the sound that was the same bell that had saved them from their nightmare.
"Have you forgotten what you gave me yourself? I'm also very interested in this thing, and it's the ringtone I heard before, right? It seems that it not only dispels nightmares, but also wakes people up from a coma. Vicilico said, sending the bell to Draenor.
"I didn't expect it to work," he said, taking the palm-sized metal clock, and it seemed that he had made up his mind to take it with him. It did look like a bell, but it was dimly lit and barely discerning.
He turned his head to look around him, a wasteland full of rotten wood, surrounded by jungle, which looked particularly abrupt, and looked like a woodland that had been destroyed by some wild animal. He pulled out a map from Viklico's backpack, which was not clearly marked, but was once the only way to the southern city.
"Have you found the treasure you're looking for, 'Mr. Pirate'? Tell us where we're going next. Cooper stretched out his arm to reach the map in his hand, and Draenor rolled it up and handed it back to Viklico, pulling the compass from his bosom and pointing it sideways in the direction of the pointer.
"Over there, it looks like we're five kilometers away from the southern city."
"Looks a little closer than before, let's hurry up and hit the road!" Jeanne said excitedly, turning and walking with Cooper in the direction Draeno was pointing.
He put away the compass, and suddenly found something bulging in his arms, and took it out to see that it was a pocket watch given by Agata.
There seemed to be a lid on the back of the pocket watch, and he removed it with his fingernails, which was a dial with only one hand, and when he pressed the metal button on the side, the hands turned at a rate of one square per second in a clockwise direction.
Vekiriko seemed to be staring at the village in a daze, and Draenor sensed her silence and reached out to hold her shoulder and shake it.
"Huh? Well, I'm thinking about what just happened...... For a moment, I felt like you had become a beast, and anger came over me, but the moment I stared at you, you froze like a stone statue. β
Draenor had no impression of Viklico's description, and his sanity was still deep asleep.
"It should be the reason for the White Refining Fire Formula, I have dripped into my own blood, this is the formula of the Resurrection Clan after all, maybe my actions can control you a little after the beastification......"
He knew the subtext of Vickyly's words, and with a sneer, he handed the pocket watch to her.
"Why don't you become your family? Whether or not this curse is lifted, we all have to fight it together. This pocket watch seems to be used as a timer, just in case, and I might as well keep an eye on it when I turn into a beast. β
Draenor's memories of becoming a beast were becoming more and more blurry, which may have been a sign of his mental weakness, and there was still a faint burning sensation in his chest until now. He retrieved the dagger from Vikilic's backpack and turned to Jeanne and Cooper, "We must be on our way at once." β
Vekily looked at the village on the other side of the jungle that had regained its tranquility, and it seemed that they had indeed restrained their bestiality from chasing them. She pulled the elixir out of her bosom, and the liquid pointed at the scale of the wall of the cup.
