Chapter 253: Diary

For the next two days, the Knights had cleaned the battlefield. A third of the walls of Kerdon had collapsed, and what was left had been completely torn down, and it could no longer guard the borders of Nagseus, and from now on, no one would disturb the Cross City.

In the bungalow at 142 Maple Street, a young knight straightened his collar and pushed the door open, raising his left hand to block out the dazzling sunlight.

He wears a pitch-black trench coat that contrasts with the white snow around him. In his left hand he held a bouquet of flowers that were not in season, and on his right sleeve was tied in a knot, and there was nothing there.

"Sir Dino! You've already returned? When was he discharged from the hospital? The neighbor, who had just returned home, was sweeping the snow in the courtyard, and he stood his shovel aside and greeted the young knight.

"Last night, I seemed to oversleep and forgot that there was something important to do." Dino smiled and nodded to his neighbor, and after a hurried farewell, he stepped into the long-awaited carriage and headed for the Knights' cemetery.

"Nickname Outside! Nagseus wins! The Knights will march on Snowway in a week! ”

The shouts of the newsboys were heard from the streets, and there were already signs of revival in the streets, and the residents who had fled returned to their quarters, and the gentlemen and ladies walked through the streets as usual.

Dino did not feel any particular joy at the victory, on the contrary, he felt that the term "big victory" was a bit exaggerated. The Knights paid a terrible price for their victory, but in the eyes of the inhabitants it was impeccable, like tossing a coin into the air and turning it over to the other side, even if the Knights ended up with only a few dozen survivors left, victory still shines as it should.

Last night, when he had just been discharged from the hospital, the final decision had been made at the post-war meeting: the Order's priority was to help restore order to the city of Celton, and when everything was ready, they would march on Snowway's capital, Boyara. But if this alone would only take three days at most, Dino believed that the Order's decision to go on an expedition in a week was to create enough opportunities for the civilians in Snowway to escape, or to prepare them for the new era.

As the carriage was about to cross Maple Street toward Kailar, he suddenly noticed several craftsmen lying in the center of the intersection, hammers and chisels in their hands, busy with a huge granite patch.

Dino motioned to the coachman to stop, leaned out of the window, and asked the craftsmen:

"Gentlemen, are you building statues?"

"Good afternoon sir, yes, this is our first job after returning to work. I took the initiative to ask the Knights Guild when I heard the news. One of the old men rolled up the towel on his shoulder and wiped his sweat and replied to him.

"It's really hard, I think this sculpture must have something to do with the defense of Kerdon." Dino said, looking at the sword that had been formed in the sculptor's hand, and probably guessed the figure that the craftsmen were trying to create.

"Yes, there was a valiant female knight who rose to the occasion of the Order's heavy wounds, and died with the enemy with a cannonball, and she was a true hero, and like Alexandia, the patron saint of Kerton. We and the Order hope that this valiant female knight will live forever on the land of Nagseus and in our hearts. Another craftsman wiped tears from the corners of his eyes and said.

"Yes, she should be remembered......" Dino felt some sourness in the corner of his eyes, waved his hand out of the window, and motioned for the coachman to move on.

In the blink of an eye, the carriage had stopped at the gate of the cemetery, and Dino held the flowers to his chest, pushed open the iron gate, and walked towards the snow-covered hill.

He stopped in front of a row of tombstones, arranged specifically next to Reiner's Tomb, one of which was even taller than the others, with a daguerreotype of Jett hanging on the cold tombstones, and she maintained a saluting posture, her left hand resting on her saber, staring in the direction of the rising sun.

Dino looked at the familiar face in the photograph and reached out to brush away the snow that had fallen on the top of the tombstone. Then, he looked sideways at the tombstone on the other side, which had no photograph on it, and in front of it was also a bouquet of frosty flowers.

In the most conspicuous position of the tombstone is engraved the following line:

"Chadwick. Draenor, knight of Nagseus, the strongest wall of Kerdon. ”

After the end of that war, the guild hospital rushed to the battlefield to search for the surviving wounded, and Jett's body was not found, only fragments of armor scattered near the crater.

When the knights and doctors dug over the ruins of the city walls, they found Dino buried in bricks, along with a corpse that had been charred and could only be identified from the broken armor.

A day had passed since the funeral had ended, and the morning before, the other members of the guild had already held a memorial service, and the residents had rushed to mourn the two knights who had died heroically.

"Sorry I'm late......"

Dino divided the bouquet into two bouquets and placed them in front of their tombstones, and pulled out a cigar and placed it on Draenor's tombstone. He had a lot to say to the two of them, but they couldn't hear it anymore, maybe as Draenor had said before, they joined the stars and became part of those who lit up the night.

"I'd love to have a drink with you guys when it's all over......"

Dino looked up at the snowflakes that had fallen at some point, and he felt the cold droplets of water slip down his cheeks, maybe just melted ice and snow......

Then, alone, the last of the night watchman returned to the carriage and set off towards 14 Maple Street, with a task to be done.

An hour later, Dino stood at the door of Jett's residence, took out the spare key left by the guild and opened the door.

It's unbelievable that the space here is unbelievably cramped, and it turns out that Jett has always lived in a house like this?

After looking around for a week, Dino embarks on a search, the last mission given to him by the guild, to find the relic of the legendary knight and bring it back to the guild for the new knight to inherit her will.

Dino didn't want to break the silence of the room, so he gently rummaged through the tables and cabinets, and even if he couldn't find the right items, he didn't forget to put them in their original state, just like Jett still lived here.

Just as he opened the last drawer, he suddenly found a leather-wrapped booklet, the footer rolled up because it was soaked with water, and the beginning of each sheet marked the time, which was supposed to be Jett's diary.

He flipped back the diary respectfully, most of which was a record of Jett and her husband Sado's life in the snow, and a few pages of the ink had faded in half, barely making out the words "child" and "sorry...... I can't ......" such a broken sentence.

Jett seems to want to bring a child to her husband, but she can't fulfill this dream. The snowy environment was too harsh, and the couple feared that their children would be threatened in the wilderness, so they planned to complete this goal after arriving in Celton together.

Dino couldn't bear to read any further, and flipped to the last few pages of the journal, which had been taken a few days before Jett's death.

"On January 1st, the Winter Festival has arrived...... But it was during this most beautiful holiday that I learned the most unfortunate news...... My fellow countryman, Latina, a nurse at the Guild Hospital, had privately informed me of her situation the day before I was discharged: I had been attacked by the monster in the catacombs of Shedirando, and it had bitten me on the arm, but fortunately the wound was not deep, and I had just covered the wound with my armor...... Unexpectedly, this is the beginning of the nightmare......

That monster is a bestiality, and it's hard for me to imagine that the bestiality really exists, and it is even possible to be infected if attacked by it...... Then, I was convinced that the infection had crept inside me, and I could feel it, the desire to devour flesh running through my head...... God, it's starting again, I've had a fever for three days in a row, is it really going to turn into those horrible beasts? ”

"On the 5th of January, I found a business card in Draenor's shirt, and although it was a bit ridiculous, I decided to follow the address on the card to visit the Divinity...... To my surprise, I had always had divinity, but it seemed to ...... Not as reliable as I thought it would be. It's in my blood, it has the smell of bewitching beasts, and maybe that's why I've always encountered them in the snow......"

"On the 7th of January, the Snowviers are coming, and the Knights are calling me, and I must respond...... This may be the last day of my life, but so what? If there really is a day when my divine power is used to the extreme, it is today! I'm ready, Sado, and we'll see each other soon......"

"Someone may find this diary, if it were you, whoever it was, I hope you will fulfill my last wish. I've been saving money these days, and the bonus I received when I signed up was six hundred deli, which was on my bedside table. It's not a lot of money, but it's enough to give a good life to a girl who has been tormented by fate. I hope you can give it to the residents of 62 Lily of the Valley Road, Lotta, along with this house. Miss Serrea, she is now alone, I don't want her to do that kind of work anymore, she is not yet twenty years old, and she is fully capable of entrusting herself to a good gentleman, to get married, to have children, and to live the life of her dreams......"

"Goodbye Dino, captain I admire the most...... Goodbye Draenor, how lucky I am to have you and me along the way...... Farewell, Nagseus, the place of legends of my dreams......"

Dino leaned against the table and looked up at the vanity mirror leaning against the wall, reflecting a face full of teardrops.

He found two figures in his eyes, one in red and one blue armor, one carrying a fire hammer and the other with his arm on his sword, and so on and so forth, until they disappeared completely......

After that, all that was left in the mirror were the red eyes and the lonely figure of a captain.
