Chapter 67: A Broken Fairy Tale

There was a sudden commotion at the edge of the swamp, and a "dragon" in scaly armor writhed from the swamp and rushed towards Jeanne by the pool.

It was a alligator nearly five meters long, with its head almost a quarter of its length, and it must have been the smell of blood from the giant frog that attracted its attention.

Jeanne dodged the crocodile's fangs with a front flip and pulled out her dagger and stabbed it in the head. The dagger stuck in the middle of the crocodile's head as if it had been inserted into a crack in the stone, and although it had done some damage, it was only a drop in the bucket.

"How...... It's so hard! Jeanne's palm was tingling with the impact of the dagger, and the crocodile shook its mouth and turned to bite Jeanne's thigh.

In the nick of time, Draenor lunged behind the crocodile and swung his dagger at its arm, only to cut a finger-length crack in the gap between the scales.

The crocodile suddenly lost its strength, its limbs were paralyzed on the ground and began to convulse, its body gradually stiffened like petrification, and finally turned into a "statue".

"Phew, Jeanne, you're not hurt, are you?"

"I'm fine, Mr. Delaenor, I was careless just now, this is the first time I've seen this strange creature." Jeanne looked at the huge reptile at her feet and finally breathed a sigh of relief.

Draenor shook off the blood stains on the blade, the venom had fused with the blade, and the entire blade was dyed a dark blue, just like his hair color.

"If it's just a short sword that's less than a meter long, at most, it can only make a tiny cut on this giant crocodile. Venom compensates for the shortsword's length, making any of its hits extremely deadly. He thought to himself.

"I'd advise you to stay away from that big bug." Cooper said, pointing to the giant crocodile lying motionless on the ground.

Draenor wondered, was it not toxic enough?

"I just told you that this poison can paralyze creatures, but I didn't say it can kill it directly."

As soon as Cooper finished speaking, Draenor seemed to see the tip of the crocodile's tail move slightly.

"But it's enough to paralyze the enemy, we need to find a way through this swamp first. Draenau, see which side due south is. Vicilico wrapped the spear around her back and tied it to her back.

Draenor pulled the compass from his bosom, the red needle pointing straight at the swamp directly ahead.

"We seem to be on the right track, but we look like we'll have to find a way through this swamp first." He looked up at the swamp that was filled with thick fog, and the ominous hiss of amphibians echoed everywhere.

"Anyway, the waterways are too dangerous, and just standing on the shore attracts two big bugs." Vikily looked up, carefully observing any path in the swamp that could be kept out of the water.

Delaeno followed her gaze forward, and inspiration flashed through her mind.

"If you want to find a way to stay away from the waterway, of course the higher the better!" Draenor pointed into the air, and the eyes of the group were fixed on the ten thousand vines hanging from the banyan tree.

Draenor had been trained in the mountains of Eichenryde, using ropes to leap over bladed forests, a training that couldn't have been easier for a warrior like him with an arm span of more than two meters.

"You little blue-haired child is quite good at finding a way! Do as you say! Vickyli complimented Draenor in Cooper's tone, turning and climbing onto the banyan tree beside her.

"Wow-wow-" Vicilico tugged at the banyan vine, which looked sturdy.

"It works!" She shouted to the people under the tree.

"Cooper, just in case, you'd better lie on my back." Draenor crouched down and said to the dwarf. "Tsk", Cooper smacked his lips and climbed onto Draenor's back.

"I'm the heaviest here, you go first." Draenor said to Vicilico. She nodded, made a "catch-up" gesture to Jeanne, kicked up the trunk, grabbed the vine and swung to the banyan tree on the other side.

"Mr. Delaenau, please be careful." Jeanne turned back to Draenor and grabbed the vines and swung them along.

The more dangerous the place, the less you can look down, Draenor knew this in his heart, but he couldn't help but look down at the swamp. Huge freshwater fish of all kinds writhed in the swamp, splashing, bubbles, and countless pairs of carnivorous reptilian eyes staring at the trunk at the bottom.

I also know what will happen to him if he doesn't grasp it or if the vine suddenly breaks.

"What a bad idea...... "Draenor took a deep breath and swung forward as he grabbed the vines.

The hot wind in his ears made Draenor even more nervous with his clenched arms, and at the moment he was at its lowest, he could clearly feel that something was ready to leap out of the water and swallow him and Cooper in one gulp.

The acceleration of gravity gradually slowed, and his body crossed a perfect arc of ninety degrees in the air, and his feet landed firmly on the trunk of the tree.

"Out of ten, I'll give twelve." Vekily patted Draenor on the shoulder appreciatively, turning and swinging forward.

"Well, it's pretty simple." Cooper's disdainful tone came from behind, and Draenor felt the muscles in his arms seem to loosen.

"Why don't you try it too?" Draenor handed the vine behind him.

"I'm not uncommon if I don't have technical content." Cooper pouted.

Draenor rolled his eyes, grasping the vines and swinging in the air again.

The deeper you go into the swamp, the more exaggerated the monsters in the pool, and the sunlight gradually dims in the treetops. In order to survive, these shady swamp creatures have evolved all kinds of strange looks

With a shovel-like snout, plant-like gills, and even a rod-like tail, they fish by the pond like a human waiting for their prey to take the bait.

"I definitely won't come back to this place a second time." With each vine, Draenor became more and more determined.

The swamp beneath him was getting much shallower, and the land was once again in front of him. Draenor had never looked forward to returning to the jungle as he did now, and he followed Viklico and Jeanne and followed the vines back to the surface.

"Abel Continent Tour Group, Smooth Landing!" Vicilico stood up and struck a triumphant pose.

"If this is a tour, you wish you could give me some money." Draenor stepped on the dry soil, and his heart was much more steady.

He pulled out the compass from his bosom and pointed in the direction of a jungle-covered building. He was about to walk towards the ruins, only to find Viklico turn and walk to the edge of the swamp.

"Is there anything you want to miss about this place?" Draenor crouched down, and Cooper slipped down his spine and fell to the ground.

"Hey, something good." Vicky squatted on the edge of the swamp and brushed away the muddy water with her hands.

"What a bad taste, are you grabbing something? Anyway, I will never eat the fish here. Draenor approached her, only to see Viklico holding up a glass bottle containing a mass of black worms.

"It's a leech, and although this thing doesn't look like it's good and its eating habits are a bit disgusting, it can come in handy for me." Vicchirico said, moving the bottle closer to Draenor, and he quickly took a few steps back.

"I don't have any extra blood to feed your pet, time is running out, can I get out of here while it's still dark?" Draenor gently pushed away the glass bottle she was holding, reminiscent of the "siren worm" seen in the fog.

"I'm not kidding...... Vicilico pursed her lips, corked the glass bottle with the leech, and got up to keep up with Draenor.

Draenor brushed aside the dense leaves in front of him, and the full view of the building appeared in front of him.

The stone pillars are covered with parasitic plants, and the collapsed rectangular eaves are stuck diagonally into the ground like tombstones. Stone sculptures are scattered on the ground, the ground is covered with a thick layer of earth, and the bricks hidden underneath can be faintly seen.

The evening sun shines on the ruins in front of you, as if announcing the end of a mysterious country. One can imagine how glorious these dilapidated buildings once stood in a corner of the continent of Abel, but now everything that was sheltered by them no longer exists.

"It's ...... Tumorahan? Vikilico seems to recognize this style of architecture, which belongs to a civilization that was once called the "fairytale kingdom" of Tumorahan.

"Not anymore...... The Yazira crossed the ocean to invade Tumorahan more than fifty years ago, and since then, the civilization has disappeared. One of the ruins that remains is the Night City cursed by the Daredevil - Morpheusland. "As a resident of Abel, Cooper is all too familiar with the legends of this country, which is on the edge of the Nightmare Lands.

Vicky didn't know anything about this "Murphysland", and in her mind, Tumolahan was a civilization founded by the Daredevils. Although they claim to be descendants of fallen angels, they are kind-hearted and peace-loving, and Tumolahan's fairy tales are popular in many countries such as Nikanlos, and have even become fond memories of countless people's childhood.

A parrot that plays the harp, a frog that dances in the forest, and a fox that tries to catch a moon shadow in the water with a fishing rod. At the time of the new moon, the people of the Dareddevil clan played the pan flute, and the maidens danced in the moonlight, and Tumolahan was once such a country full of wonderful fantasies......

But the ruins in front of you are very different from the description in the fairy tale.

"Azra, let Tumorahan perish......" Endless sadness welled up in my heart, and the Yazira people had extinguished the light that once stood in Vlaktu, Vannesia, and now it was the turn of the source of fairy tales. The sound of dreams shattering spread through Viklico's chest.

"It's not good, I'd rather go back and sleep with those toads than spend the night in this damn place." Cooper said, turning to head back to the swamp.

Draenor looked up at the ruins in front of him and reached out to grab Cooper.

"We don't have time to go back, we need to find a way through the Night City today." Draenor said firmly. Jungles and swamps are also not safe, and many unknown nocturnal animals have not yet been dispatched, and the ruins are relatively safe in any way compared to swamps with limited mobility.

Cooper struggled to shake off Draenor's arm, and pointed his thick fingers at Draenor's nose.

"Listen to the blue-haired boy, I'm here to help you for Princess Vicky's sake, I don't have anything to do with any ridiculous curses on you, so I'm in such a hurry to send you to death, please!" His eyes widened, and his beard shuddered around his chin.

"Draenor has a point, the sun is setting right now, and even if our destinations are different, we have to find a way to spend the night around here first. Legends have been heard, but the strange things near the swamp are obvious to all. ”

Vickyrico pointed to the jungle behind him and calmly analyzed, there was the sound of something behemoth falling into the water on the other side of the swamp, and Cooper felt a little uncomfortable, and stood there and did not dare to move.

"Alright! All right! What a bunch of madmen rushing to their deaths! Cooper held his fists high in the air and followed the group towards the ruins in front of him.

Draenor walked over to an altar-like structure, the stone finely cut into a rectangle, and a three-sided staircase that led to the edge of the high temple.

"Is this an altar?" He asked.

"It's the Daredevil Clan's Celebratory Altar, I don't know why, they're just keen on using triangles, temples, altars, windows, all the more important buildings are triangular, as if they don't have any other way to express themselves." Cooper pointed to the temple on the staircase, which was propped up by three pillars, and that was the only place that was relatively stable.

"It looks quite high, we can take a good look at the surrounding terrain, if there is any danger, it will be easier to defend, what do you think?" Vickyli was able to elbow Draeno's abdomen, and his body seemed to be getting stronger.

Draenor looked around at the surrounding ruins, and it seemed that none of the buildings were still intact.

"It seems that there is no other choice, let's just stay alive for one night, at least it is better than sleeping in the mud." Draenor smiled and patted Cooper's round head.

"Ahh Right! Are you satisfied now? Cooper said disdainfully, raising his hand and pulling Draenor's arm away.

The temple is about three stories high, with three stone pillars standing firm against the ceiling carved out of stone slabs, and a chain hanging from a small metal bell hammer over the heads of the people, and it is impossible to tell what material it is made of.

Although there were three staircases, only two led to the interior of the temple, and the end of the other staircase was sealed by a large stone wall with reliefs carved with strange characters all over the wall.

"What's on it?" Draenor asked, pointing to the wall.

"Does it look like a dictionary? I don't know! Cooper said bruisedly.

"I've seen something like that in fairy tale books, the language spoken by the Celestials and Night Demons—Galaval." Vikiriko approached the wall, reading the relief text.

"'The bell of the exorcism rings to celebrate the light of the Lord of the New Moon'? They seem to be interested in the moon, is this a ritual term? Vicky scratched her head, and everyone was confused.

"All in all, we need to take advantage of this rare tranquility to take advantage of this rare rest." Draenor no longer tried to understand the incantation-like poem, and he turned and sat down at the entrance of the temple's stairs, watching the distant sunset disappear into view.
