Chapter 45: Baptism
At first, Li Ling thought that those rough lines were random graffiti by stonemasons when they were bored.
But those nicks were not few, and they were found almost everywhere in the cave.
Some of the notches clearly show some familiar images, some like factories, buildings, and even spaceships and giant machines that can be found everywhere on Earth.
But more than that, there are some absurd human and animal appearances, as well as some vague rough lines such as ghosts.
Some scenes of slaughtering animals look like a ritual.
Li Ling remembered Nayin's words—those forerunners had told the Busen people that they were messengers sent by the gods—and he was relieved. Perhaps they wanted to use this form of god worship and killing to intimidate the beasts that tried to fight against humans.
Bypassing the murals that were too strange or meaningless, Li Ling's eyes were drawn to some specific portrait paintings, and the encounters in the past few days made him recognize some of the scenes in the paintings at a glance.
A tall, naked human was standing in the middle of a rocky canyon, his hands raised to the sky, and the fierce wind enveloped his body.
In the next painting, he tears a skinny animal in half, allowing blood to run down the top of his head.
It's like being baptized in wind and blood.
In the past, Li Ling scoffed at this kind of masochistic and perverted performance art. But he knew how terrible those raging winds were, and he secretly admired the figures in those paintings.
Of course, it was just admiration, and he didn't imitate the crazy actions of the stonemasons who imagined it out of thin air. He still has to save this life to save Xiao Yu, to protect those experts and scholars, and to complete the mission of supporters.
Every time he thought of this, Li Ling would run out in a hurry and inspect every corner of this small world.
Just like in the canyon outside the waterhole, after half a month, Li Ling was still at a loss.
Gradually, he became depressed again. Even in times of desperation, he would vent his bitterness in front of the tall stone statue sitting in the cave, and even lean on the stone statue to fall asleep.
Whenever he was, he always had the feeling of being stared at, whimsically feeling that the stone statues were not the work of the imagination of the stonemasons, but the real giants that had existed. Every time he thought of this, Li Ling felt his scalp tingle.
On this day, when Li Ling was bored, he calmed down for the first time and carefully looked at the stone statue of the giant in front of him - with a wide nose and ringed eyes, a long face and a big mouth, and a narrow face with distinct facial features, which looked brave and extraordinary.
He had never seen such a strange-looking person, but for no reason he felt a little familiar.
The next moment, Li Ling stood up excitedly and walked towards the cave wall behind the stone statue. In the afternoon, the light was a little dim, and Li Ling almost pressed his body against the stone wall, identifying the murals of the people who behaved strangely.
"Sure enough...... Sure enough, it was him! Muttering softly, Li Ling began to quickly glance back and forth over the stone statues and the paintings.
The portraits on the stone wall are painted with rough lines, and most of them are just sketches of general shapes, but under Li Ling's observation these days, intentionally or unintentionally, those figures gradually coincide with the stone statue sitting in the center.
"It seems that this stone statue is indeed not an imaginary figure, but a living person, and these murals are a record of his deeds." Li Ling secretly thought to himself, and he guessed that this stone statue might be the most powerful of the forerunners.
He suddenly had a sense of urgency. Crazy as it was, he felt that the imposing giant should not be obsessed with exaggerated performance art, and that there was no reason for the stonemasons to go to the trouble of murdering an unrelated passer-by.
Anyway, there is no way out at the moment, and with the mentality that he can't suffer losses and can't be fooled, Li Ling strode out.
A full meal to recharge your batteries! Before dusk came, they took off their clothes and put them neatly on top of each other. Swimming out of the pool, I came to the rocky canyon.
I took turns raising my legs, leaping frogs, push-ups, tai chi, and military boxing, and then slapped my body indiscriminately until all parts of my body were red, and then I stopped to rest.
Soon, the whining wind in the canyon began to become sharp, and the strong wind passed through the canyon, slapping Li Ling's body like substance.
This time, Li Ling did not huddle tightly in the leeward corner as before, but boldly moved some distance closer to the center of the canyon.
After only a short while, Li Ling felt that he was about to lose his bearing, and had to clung to the black tree trunks that had been deeply rooted in the canyon, allowing the wind to cut through the skin of his whole body like a sharp dagger.
But that's just the beginning, and after the sun sets, the whole canyon is plunged into absolute darkness. Small, dusty things were wrapped in the wind and pierced into his body like the tips of needles.
The sharp pain stimulated Li Ling's body, and he felt that he was about to lose his ability to hold it anymore and wanted to turn back.
Unfortunately, the thick darkness and the raging winds of the waves filled every space around him. It's hard enough to stay where you are, and there's still half a chance to go back?
Once he let go, Li Ling felt that he either hit his head on a solid rock somewhere, or fell into an abyss that could not be seen.
The piercing screams were just as unbearable, almost tearing his eardrums. Li Ling gritted his teeth harder, holding the trunk with both hands.
Several times, Li Ling considered the consequences of letting go, thinking that maybe he would miraculously survive, or maybe he would be blown out of the canyon by a hurricane and fall into a soft place.
But reason told him not to give up, he must not give up.
Whenever he felt that he couldn't hold on any longer, he would bite the tip of his tongue or lip to make himself sober.
In the end, Li Ling could no longer feel any pain in his body, and he didn't know if the wind in the canyon had become bigger or smaller. I just felt that something was constantly hitting me hard and burrowing into my body.
Like a gambler who has nothing, Li Ling is gambling, betting that he can hold out until the wind stops, and the bet is his only life.
Time passed little by little, slowly like an hourglass or a drip pot. When you focus on it, it slows down to the extreme, and once you take your mind away, it slips away in an instant.
I don't know how long it took, Li Ling's body and consciousness were exhausted to the extreme, he didn't even know if he was awake, he only knew that he kept reminding himself to hold on, and then hold on......
The piercing scream came again, waking Li Ling from his tumultuous slumber, only to know that he had already fallen asleep. It was already dawn, and another equally terrible hurricane was about to strike again.
Li Ling's whole body was almost numb, and his arms couldn't lift a trace of strength. But he only said that if he wanted to survive, he had to hide in the leeward before the wind became stronger.
Fortunately, there are no outsiders here, and there is no need to pay attention to the image, Li Ling held on, rubbed his feet the ground, and rolled to the edge of the pool.
This was an excellent shelter from the wind, and Li Ling finally breathed a sigh of relief and began to regret his previous adventure.
At noon, when the sun was shining down from the top of his head, Li Ling felt that he had regained a little strength, but his body was in hot pain, and when he looked down to check, he was startled by his miserable situation.
Dense black spots mixed with dried blood stained almost every part of the body.
He remembered the figure on the mural, which seemed to pour the blood of some animal on his head after raising his arms and shouting in the wind.
But there are no other animals here except rats. Thinking of the appearance of being doused with rat blood, Li Ling couldn't help grinning. But he thought again, he had relied on them for food and drink these days, so how could he care about getting more blood?
Thinking of this, Li Ling couldn't help but laugh. Laughing at yourself in the eyes of those poor mice, does it look like a demon?
Compared to the rats that everyone on Earth shouts about, these delicate little animals have a pair of bright, clever and innocent round eyes. Perhaps in this world, they have a more beautiful and beautiful name. But Li Ling had no intention of dwelling on this issue, anyway, these little things were just food that he used to fill his stomach, and a not-so-nice name would alleviate his guilt.
One of the most obvious differences with mice is that these little guys are so clumsy that they often lift their upper bodies like ducks and walk on two legs.
Just as he was thinking, several rats swam up from under the pool. Staggered to the black trunks of the dead branches and gnawed.
Li Ling laughed cruelly, moved his sore arms, and got up and walked towards them.
Seeing Li Ling suddenly appear in front of them, those little pitifuls immediately trembled and bowed down, not daring to move.
This made Li Ling a little curious, although these rats are also caught on weekdays, why don't they even have the courage to resist today?!
"Forget it, I don't care so much!" Li Ling was ruthless, reached out and grabbed one of them, intending to learn from the figure in the mural to tear it in half. But after a little effort, he found that he couldn't exert a little strength in his arms.
In desperation, he had to repent silently for a while, and then in an even more cruel way, he executed the creature he called a mouse.
The difference is that he did not pour its blood on his head, but carefully applied it all over his body.
Like salt sprinkled on a wound, stimulated by blood and sunlight, the skin that had already been painful and unconscious became hot and painful again.
Li Ling gritted his teeth and smeared it over and over again.
He remembered that when he was a child, he would often take turns hitting each other with some of his friends as hard as he could, or eating ice in the ditch as if he were masochistic. Not for anything else, just to prove that you are better than others. In those stupid actions that girls can't understand, Li Ling always wins again and again, and always proudly raises his once immature face.
Now, it's as if he's back to his childhood. He didn't even think about the purpose and significance of doing so.
He only knew that the crazy move that the stone statue with a powerful aura had tried in the past could do it himself.
"And I'm only going to be harder on myself!" Li Ling thought frantically.
