Chapter 9 Molds

These are very large workloads without iron tools, and it is necessary to ensure that the mold is a rectangle, and the size must be strictly controlled, otherwise there will be a situation where one side is long and the other is short, and the height should be kept as much as possible.

Now it's just making small molds, and I really don't know how much time it will take to make big molds in the future.

Cheng Ran found two wooden sticks with a size of five or six centimeters straight from the firewood, and planned to use them to make molds.

The most important thing to pay attention to in this mold is to always ensure that it can become a rectangle, which requires the four materials to be the same height, and the length and width are as consistent as possible, and the link place should be kept as small as possible to reduce the gaps.

took out the two two long wooden sticks, Cheng Ran spent nearly half an hour to cut off the extra end, leaving two wooden sticks with a length of about twelve miles, Cheng Ran wanted to leave a little distance to tie up, and the next thing was to dig out a hole in each stick, the hole doesn't need to be too big, the size of the hole doesn't matter, as long as it can be combined with the protruding part of the horizontal stick.

In order to avoid the cracking of the wooden stick, Cheng Ran began to dig holes with pre-sharpened tools, under the action of a self-made hammer, although the stone chisel is not very sharp, but the progress is quite smooth, first a few times vertically, out of the shape of the opening, and then a few times horizontally, as much as possible to control the size of about two centimeters.

But the good times didn't last long, under the knocking of one more force at a time, the whole wood cracked, and the cracks were not small, although the cracks were not very big now, and they would not affect the subsequent use, but Cheng Ran knew that there were already cracks in this hole, and if the two holes were done, it was estimated that they would crack from the middle.

Cheng Ran had no choice but to give up this attempt, and in the end it fell short.

"Cheng Ran, why don't you try fresh wood, so that there will be no cracks, and it is not only easier to deal with." Li Yuxin looked at the annoyed Cheng Ran and said

"Well, that's all there is to it." After working for a long time, he still failed in the end, and Cheng Ran's mood is not high now.

At this time, Cheng Ran got up and walked towards the jungle, and cut back the trunks of many different sizes, all of which were relatively straight trees, which would be more convenient to make.

Using the stone axe he had made earlier, he soon obtained a trunk that was close to fifty centimeters, about eight centimeters in diameter, and did not have any branches in between.

As with the previous practice, it was easy to get the basic material, and after some polishing, the hard work of digging the hole began.

This time, I still used a stone chisel, this time I tried to dig through the hole horizontally, and then carefully dug the hole from the vertical direction, in order to avoid cracking the wooden stick again, so that the previous work was wasted.

This time, it took about 30 minutes to finish the square hole about 2 centimeters on one side, and the stone chisel had to be constantly polished along the way.

In addition, it took almost the same amount of time to keep the whole mold high, and in order to keep the height of the entire mold consistent, Cheng Ran also tried to keep the two holes on a plane, although it was not for good looks, but the later polishing should try its best to basically meet the requirements.

Another trunk is also treated in exactly the same way, but Cheng Ran has high requirements for the size, otherwise the final product will not be a rectangle, maybe what kind of shape it will be, and the final four holes should be consistent in height, and then the distance in the middle should be consistent.

In fact, the most important thing is that the distance between the middle of each trunk is consistent, so that the final mold can become a rectangle, even if the height is inconsistent, the subsequent polishing can still be adjusted, if the distance between the holes is not the same, it is basically wasted.

It took nearly an hour and a half to get the two sticks like this, and when I made the hole later, I was a little more skilled and the progress was accelerated, otherwise I don't know how long it would take to make this mold.

The next step is to make two pieces of wood for joining, which is actually the width of the mold, and cut both ends of a piece of wood to protrude, and the protruding part can be inserted into the hole made earlier.

This was the easiest, and although there were no iron tools, with the help of tools such as stone chisels and stone axes, the entire base material was completed in about two or three hours.

When these four materials are combined, it is found that they are a little thicker, and if they are thicker, it is better to cut off some of them, and if they are too thin, it will be troublesome, so they can only sharpen some wooden wedges {xie} to smash into the gaps.

Cheng Ran was not in a hurry to fix it with rattan, first of all, after the initial combination, he tested and adjusted some to ensure that it was a perfect rectangle, because the distance in the middle of the hole was more appropriate, the length obtained was not much necessary to be adjusted, but the height was still a little inconsistent.

And the inside of these four wooden sticks still needs to be polished, some burrs on it are disposed of, and they also need to be polished as smooth as possible, so that the mold made can be separated from the blank in the subsequent brick production, otherwise there will be many burrs on the surface of the brick made, and it is not conducive to the separation of the mold from the brick in the back, and the brick obtained is not easy to use, and it is easy to crack when it is fired.

These are relatively detailed work, and it is necessary to recombine them after a period of time, and it is necessary to adjust the angle and shape of the grinding in time according to the combination situation.

In order to reduce the weight of the mold, but also to make the mold easier to use, but also to treat the outside simply, not for how good-looking, but still need to ensure that the overall structure will not be damaged.

Finally, after nearly a day of hard work, these four materials have been completed, and after a simple test, I feel that I can basically meet the requirements, and Cheng Ran decided to make this mold today.

First of all, I found some relatively large sawdust on the ground, and then processed it into wooden wedges, and after combining these four materials, I smashed some wooden wedges into all the joints, so that the overall structure is basically stronger even if it is not fixed with rattan.

After thinking about it, I felt that it was safer to fix it with rattan, and finally found some rattan, processed some and braided it into rope, and tied it at all four corners.

In order not to affect the ease of use of the whole mold, Cheng Ran deliberately cut a few gaps in the wood when bundling, and hid the rope in the gaps.
