Chapter Twenty-Six: Old Cases

"So have your authorities now reopened the investigation into the abduction case?" The teacher looked at me and asked.

"That's right, it's just ...... The top brass on our side didn't take this case seriously. Because the 2.18 murder case is over, and the murderer is dead, considering that this case is a 20-year case, and everyone wants to have a good year......," I said helplessly.

The teacher smiled bitterly, and he smiled like the teacher's mother, and his eyes narrowed into a slit.

"That's exactly what they've always done." The teacher sarcastically stared at me again: "So this time you came to learn from me about the situation back then, didn't you?" ”

"Yes, teacher." I said.

"Okay, then I'll tell you about this case back then." The teacher sat back down in his recliner, took a sip of tea from the enamel cup, and began to speak.

(The following "I" is Fang Jing's tone)

It was China in 1990. The population has already reached the bulk of 1.1 billion. At that time, I had just graduated from the police academy for a year, and because of my good performance and grades in the police academy, I was assigned to work in the city bureau of S City, of course, just a small criminal policeman.

Not long after I arrived at the police station, I was assigned to a team investigating trafficking cases.

The leaders at that time told us that there had been more and more trafficking cases in Chengyang County, S City, and that almost every once in a while, a family would come to report the case, and the superiors attached great importance to this, so it was necessary to seize the time to deal with these cases.

Since I had only been in the police station for two years at that time, I had nowhere to put my enthusiasm, so I actively participated in the investigation of this series of cases with other comrades.

As the leaders have told us before, almost all of the abduction cases revolve around the vicinity of Chengyang County. I investigated the case files and found that almost all local families with children in a few years old were murdered by traffickers, and the frequency was high in the last year or two.

We felt it was stupid to just sit in the office and wait for the families to come to visit, so we decided to go to the local village to do a field survey.

There are many villages in Chengyang County, except for the more developed places in the center, all large and small villages are located around the county seat. It is densely populated, and according to our survey data at the local Family Planning Commission, almost all of the local population has the phenomenon of overbirth, so the punishment for overbirth is also very common here.

We went to the local countryside and went door-to-door to petition families whose children had been trafficked. According to statistics, there are probably more than 100 families whose children have been trafficked. Of those, 14 had two or more children trafficked.

The reasons why child trafficking is rampant in our day are not difficult to foresee. Low cost, high profits, easy to use, backward scientific and technological means, difficult police investigations, and the phenomenon of superbirths have all cultivated a hotbed for child trafficking in this county.

At that time, surveillance technology was not widely available, so once many children were trafficked, they were immediately taken by traffickers on trains fleeing to other provinces, and then sold through a series of trading networks.

There is also a special situation, that is, the economy of Chengyang County is relatively backward. It is a long distance away from the more developed S city, and it belongs to the relatively remote county seat of the province. Therefore, the vast majority of families who are mainly engaged in agriculture here have low annual incomes, and many families are even unable to pay fines for overbirth.

Based on our visits to each household, we found that traffickers generally target children under the age of three and over one year old. Perhaps coincidentally, about 80 percent of the children they traffick are girls.

Because the mobility of human traffickers is too large, many traffickers should even belong to the foreign population, and they will flee to other provinces after completing a vote, and there will be a long delay from reporting the case in Chengyang County to submitting the case information, which has caused great difficulties in the investigation, so we have not made progress for a long time.

In this way, about two years passed gradually. In June 1992, we received a report at the city bureau that less than half an hour later, a family living in the city had lost their child in a vegetable market.

The two parents rushed to the police station to report the crime and told us that we must catch the traffickers and rescue their precious son.

We were all excited, this was the first time we had ever seen a crime committed in a city since we started investigating trafficking!

Moreover, it is very likely that the traffickers have not yet had time to escape to the provinces by train!

Our leadership hastened to mobilize almost all the police forces, blocked two railway stations and a bus terminal in the city of S, and asked us to check all suspicious people passing through the railway station, especially those with small children!

While we were going to check the personnel one by one, I found a woman in her 40s holding a little boy who was less than three years old. The little boy looked at everything around him happily, and asked the woman holding him with wide eyes:

"Auntie, what's going on, why are there so many police uncles around!"

Hearing the boy's words, the woman looked a little nervous. She tugged hard at the boy's hand, signaling him not to talk casually.

Looking at them, I alertly stopped them from advancing and touched the gun on my waist with my right hand.

"This lady, may I ask if this child is yours?" I asked solemnly.

"Haha, young man, he's my little nephew, I'm just going to take him around." The woman pursed her eyes, not daring to look at me squarely.

I ignored her, crouched down and touched the little boy's head. He was very cute, with big watery eyes looking at me curiously, and he must have grown up to be a handsome young man.

"Kid, tell the police uncle, what's your name." I asked in as gentle a tone as I could.

"Uncle, my name is Dada!" Seeing that I was wearing a police uniform, he touched the logo on my chest with a happy face.

"Then it's okay for you to tell the truth to your uncle, and your uncle will give you candy to eat, who is this aunt yours?"

The little boy scratched his head, looked up at me and said, "She's an aunt!" My mom and dad were shopping at the market, and she gave me candy to eat and said she was going to take me to a fun place. She's all right! ”

Before the little boy could finish speaking, I immediately pulled out my gun and stood up, pointing at the woman in front of me and signaling her not to act rashly.

She lowered her eyes, like a deflated ball, and looked helplessly at the ground. Our men soon arrived and subdued her.
