Xiao Tianshu said: "This matter was very popular at the time, and the worker died suddenly that night. At that time, the media said that it was because of civets, but in fact, such a statement was obviously a cover-up, and civets have always been eaten, but after that, no such thing happened. ”
Nian Fu said: "Lao Tzu said: All things in the world are born from being, and some are born from nothing, does this "nothing" mean that there is nothing and nothing exists? Then why don't these bones melt, how can you explain nothing? ”
Xiao Tianshu smiled: "You mean that the bones buried in the ground are durable, not to mention that there is nothing!" First of all, we can affirm that this "nothing" does not mean that nothing does not exist. How to explain this "nothingness" depends on how we understand the theory of "Tao" in the Tao Te Ching. In fact, in the first chapter of the Tao Te Ching, the definitions and relationships of "Tao", "nothingness" and "being" are given. ”
Nian Fu said: "The Tao is the way, the very way; The name is famous, and the name is not very famous. Nameless, the beginning of heaven and earth, famous, the mother of all things. Therefore, there is often no desire, to see its wonder, and there is often desire, to observe its subtlety. ”
Xiao Tianshu said: "These two are the same and have different names, the same name is the mystery, the mystery is mysterious, and the door of all wonders." Under the influence of "Tao", the initial state of heaven and earth is called "nothing", and the process of generating all things in heaven and earth is called "being", so "being" is the mother of all things. Let's look at the context and original words of this sentence in chapter 40: the movement of the opposite way, and the use of the weak way. Everything in the world is born from being, and some are born from nothing. Cyclical repetition is the operation of the Tao (the movement of the opposite Tao), and the influence on all things invisibly is the characteristic of the Tao (the use of the Tao of the weak). This is to illustrate the nature and operation of the Tao. Note that the concepts in the Tao Te Ching are all illustrating a state. "Dao" is a state, "virtue" is also a state, "nothing" is a state, and "being" is also a state. So what is the explanation of "everything under heaven is born of being"? In fact, it is the same as "famous, the mother of all things". Because of the state of "being", the substantiation of all things in the world will be produced. ”
Nian Fu said: "Brother Xiao, you, briefly give an example of the state of "Tao" and "Virtue"? ”
Xiao Tianshu said: "If we stand where we are and want to set off in a certain direction, but we do not take a step, is there a possibility that we will go in any direction? This state of being filled with all possibilities but having no choice is the Tao. Having all the options because there are no options is also known as "nothing". If we take one step in one direction now, we break this state, we make a choice on the basis of the Tao, abandon the other directions, and get the direction of progress, what is this? This is "being", that is, "getting". The state of "Tao" has also changed, which is "Tao can be Tao, extraordinary Tao". ”
Nian Fu said: "And "being born out of nothing" is not "creating something out of nothing", but relative to the original state of "nothing" of "Tao", we call "virtue", the dynamic after choosing the direction "being". In fact, "being" and "nothingness" are the two corresponding states of the initial state of "Tao", which are the two corresponding states after choosing the direction. Only when there is "nothing" can there be "being", and it is not that "Tao" becomes "virtue" and becomes a state of "being", and there is no "Tao" in the state of "nothing". "Being born out of nothing" actually means that without the concept of "nothing", which is "nameless, the beginning of heaven and earth", there would be no meaning of the relative concept of "being". That's why "these two are the same and have different names, the same name is the mystery, the mystery is mysterious, and the door of all wonders." "Being" and "nothing" come from the same "Tao", but the names are different because of the different states. The state of "nothing" is the state of "Tao" in "virtue", but not "Tao", while "being" is the opposite state of "nothing" in "virtue". These two states are collectively called "Xuan", and "Xuanzhi Xuan" is the trajectory of "the movement of the opposite Tao", and whether there is unity or not is the ultimate belonging, that is, the state of returning to the "Tao" (the gate of all wonders). We can compare "nothingness" to "emptiness" in Buddhist theory. Because Buddhist theories are more widely spread among the people, most people know that this "emptiness" is not "emptiness", but a state, a state of fullness. For example, the cup is "empty", and it is actually full of my affection and so on. ”
Xiao Tianshu said: "In fact, this understanding is wrong, and this "emptiness" has another meaning. Buddhism's "Three Dharma Seals", in the "Miscellaneous Ahama Sutra", "all actions are impermanent, all laws have no self, and nirvana is extinguished." That is, another expression of the four noble truths of primitive Buddhism's "Suffering Gathering and Destroying the Path". The logic of its understanding is that it is "empty" because of "impermanence", and "emptiness" because of "selflessness", and becoming a Buddha is the "silence of nirvana" after understanding these truths. Based on Nagarjuna's middle theory, this kind of "emptiness" does not mean that all things are empty, but that the nature of all things is the same, that is, all things have no self-nature, and if there is, this "self-nature" can only be "emptiness", that is, "Buddha-nature". And to achieve this understanding through practice is "clear mind," and this "nature" is "emptiness," which is Buddha-nature. ”
Nian Fu said: "What does the Buddha say about the Tao? ”
Xiao Tianshu said: "Buddha nature is another interpretation of Taoist "virtue", or a rebellion against "virtue". Because the "virtue" of morality does not include "emptiness", and what has no self-nature is without "virtue". ”
Xiao Tianshu and Nian Fu spent their days in the temple, and they were still comfortable, chatting until late at night on this day, only listening to the sound of the temple door, both of them were startled.
Nian Fu said: "You are in the middle of the night, and no one knows that there is a place, who is knocking on the door here?" ”
Xiao Tianshu was also startled and said: "The bird stays in the tree by the pool, and the monk knocks on the door under the moon." Surely someone who came to stay overnight......"
The ghost doll disappeared for a long time, and I don't know where to poke its head out and say, "How do I feel a smell of danger!" ”
Xiao Tianshu smiled: "What are you talking nonsense about, it must be over when people come, is it difficult or demons and monsters......"
Nian Fu said: "Ghost cub, where did you go for half a day?" I'm looking for revenge on you, see if I don't get rid of your ghost......"

Xiao Tianshu said: "Okay, the two of you don't need to fight anymore, let's talk about it no matter how unanimous it is, I don't know who is coming, what tacit understanding is, it sounds strange in the middle of the night!" ”
