(60) Finale
The weather was overcast, with snowflakes falling from the sky and falling on rooftops and streets. There are very few people on the streets, and most of the people in this cold weather hide in warm rooms and warm themselves around the fire.
Yuhan sat by the window, holding an English book in his hand, and his eyes were fascinated by the snowflakes falling outside the window. It was also winter when she first came to Dundee, and in the blink of an eye, this was her third winter in the UK.
The bell rang on the door, and Jessica pushed the door in. She ripped off her scarf, dusted her hair and the snow off her shoulders, and said apologetically, "I'm sorry Jenny, I'm late." The road is difficult to walk on snowy days, and the power goes out in the middle of the tram. β
"It's okay, there are no guests today." Yuhan's current level of English is no longer any obstacle to communication.
Jessica is a pure English girl with brown hair and blue eyes, and works part-time while attending school like Yuhan. They have been working together at the bookstore for more than a year and are now friends.
"It's so cold today! I just saw that there are homeless people on the street, and if they have nowhere to stay and can spend the night in the foyer, the boss probably won't mind. Jessica had taken off her coat and checked the stove to boil water. She's a kind girl.
Yuhan got up and cleaned up the bar and counted the newly arrived books.
"Jenny, go back quickly! The weather is bad, so stay safe on the road. Jessica urged Yuhan.
Yuhan smiled at her, "Okay, you have to be careful, take care of the stove, don't doze off and let the fire go out." β
The bell rang again, and a cold wind blew into the house as the door opened. Is there a guest coming? Yuhan looked at the door.
A man walked into the bookstore, dressed in a dark gray cotton coat and an old felt hat with snow on his body and on his hat.
"It's supposed to be a homeless guy passing by to get warm, I'll go to the back and get some bread and hot tea." Jessica turned and went to the back kitchen.
Yuhan walked over to the foyer, "Sir, come in and sit by the stove, it's warmer here." β
The man's hair was a little long, and the ends of his exposed felt hat vaguely blocked his eyes, and there were snowflakes on the tips of his hair. He reached out and took off his felt hat and held it in his hand, and stood firmly at the entrance of the foyer. He has black hair, yellow skin, and blue stubble on his cheeks, like an Oriental.
Walking in a little further, Yuhan saw his eyes, looking at her eagerly, his eyes blazing.
The two of them stood face to face like this, this familiar look, Yuhan had imagined countless times, her eyes widened, not sure if this was an illusion or a reality.
I don't know how long it took, his voice choked, "Yuhan, I finally found you." Yuhan heard the long-lost Chinese.
What happened after that? Yuhan wasn't sure if she ran over, or if he hugged her, or if the two of them hugged each other......
When Jessica came out, she thought she was dazzled and saw Jenny hugging a homeless man, not knowing whether she was crying or laughing. What made Jessica even more incredible was that the homeless man later cut his hair, shaved his beard, changed into clean clothes, and became a young oriental gentleman.
In Edinburgh, not far from Dundee, James has a manor house where the fire in the fireplace is already blazing and crackling.
He wrapped a blanket around Yuhan and sat around her on a thick cashmere cushion, and the two of them watched the fire burn vigorously.
"Why the remote town of Dundee?" James asked softly.
"I was in London when I first arrived in the UK and I happened to be in Dundee. I loved the quiet town, so I stayed there, probably looking for a quiet place to hide. β
"These three years have been a long time for me because I have only done one thing, and that is to find you. At first, I couldn't imagine that you would come to England alone, so I searched most of China, but I couldn't find you. Then I started to come to England to find every town, every village, wherever there were Chinese people. If I can't find it in the UK, I'll probably go to France next, then Italy...... I'll keep looking. The corners of James's mouth rose, "It's good that God favored me and let me find you before I grew old." β
Yuhan listened quietly, suddenly remembered something, looked up and asked, "Don't you still have a fiancΓ©e of an English nobleman?" β
"FiancΓ©e?" James looked puzzled, and then smiled and said, "That's just to deal with President Yang's proposal, I made up a temporary reason, I didn't expect you to remember it until now." He looked at her playfully, in a good mood, "A lot of things have happened during your absence, Zongli and Xinlian are married, they already have a son, and now the second child is about to be born." β
"Xinlian became a mother? I can't imagine it. β
"Yang Tianqi's business is now very big, and Qihui Cloth Industry is no longer the small shop it used to be. It's just that he's not married yet, and he's still alone. And also...... Your father ......," James paused, "Shengda Construction is still maintaining a small business, and your father is still the same." β
From the meeting to the present, Yuhan didn't have the courage to ask James what to do with his father, hearing that his father was unharmed, her nervous heart flowed through a burst of warmth, and her heart was full of apologies and gratitude to James, she leaned her head on James's shoulder, feeling sorry for the difficulty of his choice.
"During the time you disappeared, I figured out a lot, and past grievances don't matter anymore. You don't have to feel guilty, you saved me, let me let go of those hatreds, and let myself go. Now that I've found you, it's time for me to think about life. The previous company has been handed over to Zongli to take care of, and I will see if I need to find a job in Dundee, or do some business, otherwise how to support you. β
"I don't need you to raise me, I can make my own money, work and study. I now work part-time at a bookstore on weekends and tutor children in the evenings, which is enough for living expenses. Yuhan blinked happily, "If you become a poor bastard, I can raise you too." β
James smiled, "I know you have the skills, but I don't want you to work so hard, and I also have to plan for our future." James let out a long sigh of relief, "I only think about the future now, imagine what our lives will be like in the future?" We'll get married, we'll have kids, we'll have stumbles, and then we'll slowly become one big family. It doesn't matter if you stay in the UK or go back to Shanghai, the old house in Shanghai is still helping to take care of it, as long as we are together, we can settle down anywhere. Then, when we are old, we can watch the sunset, drink tea, and chat...... Reminiscing about the bits and pieces of this life. β
Winter in England has short days, and deep nights fall early, and two people will spend a lifetime together in front of a warm fireplace.
