Chapter 005: On the Battlefield
In the afternoon of the same day.
A military aircraft that transported all the recruits incorporated into the 102 regiment to London.
And Colonel Phillips and Agent Carter were among them, and the pilot was Howard Stark.
In the evening.
They traveled in military trucks from London to the front-line camps in which the fighting was fierce.
Boom!
The sound of artillery fire was heard from afar.
The camp was filled with the smell of a mixture of blood and potions.
As soon as he got out of the car, through the dim lights of a dozen lights, Gary saw many wounded soldiers with stumps and short legs, being carried into the makeshift medical room.
When many recruits saw this tragic scene, they couldn't help but run to the side and vomit.
It was also the first time Gary had seen such a bloody scene, and he held back his stomach and followed Colonel Phillips and Agent Carter.
"Lieutenant Colonel Bright, it looks like the situation is bad." Before arriving at the camp headquarters, Gary and the others gathered outside, while Colonel Phillips and Agent Carter entered the tent, but they walked out with an officer with the rank of lieutenant colonel after a while.
"Those damn **, it's crazy, they don't care about the lives of the soldiers at all, our line of defense has been shortening." Lieutenant Colonel Bright said, his gaze swept to Gary and the other recruits, he frowned and said, "Chief Phillips, is there no one in the rear?" Send a bunch of recruits who have never seen blood, those senators who can only fight with words, do you want us to surrender! β
Colonel Phillips shook his head, "The veterans are also coming from the new recruits, and they will be ready to use it when they see the blood, and Senator Brad is actively mobilizing in the rear to join the army." β
"It looks like there's really no one in the rear." Lieutenant Colonel Brett sighed, in fact, he also knew how fierce the battle was now, even those retired veterans were reassigned to the battlefield.
Colonel Plips patted Bright on the shoulder, "Give them some time." β
"That's all it takes, may God bless them with a few more survivors!"
In the evening, each soldier was given a suit of combat uniforms and steel helmets, and the combat commander sent someone to inform them that they would go to the front for reinforcements tomorrow and that they would have a good rest tonight.
"Hey, Hodge, I'm going to fight those ** tomorrow, what are you thinking?"
"What else can I think of, of course, I'm thinking about how to drive those ** back to my hometown!"
Several soldiers in the dormitory laughed and talked loudly, and only in this way could they dispel the tension and fear in their hearts.
Gary lay on the bed, took the time to return to Luo Hua, ate some food, closed the door, and hurried back to Gary.
Being in the front-line barracks, he didn't dare to be careless.
Rumble!
The sound of artillery fire in the distance was much quieter, only the gunfire was still so intense.
Early the next morning.
"Instructor Carter, where's Steve?" Gary took advantage of the meal to find Agent Carter, although he knew that Steve was cooperating with Senator Brad's propaganda mobilization, but as Steve's friend, Gary still had to ask.
"Steve has another assignment." Agent Carter glanced at Gary and comforted, "I'm about to go to the front, good luck." β
"Thank you."
Front-line defense trenches.
Smoke filled the air, and the pungent smell of gunpowder was everywhere, mixed with the stench of charred corpses.
While Gary and his soldiers were reinforced, the American-British and German forces fought again after a brief ceasefire.
"Boom!"
The screeching of shells fell on the trenches, kicking up a cloud of dust.
"Da Da Da!" The Maxim heavy machine gun spewed flames, carrying a metal storm to suppress wave after wave of German onslaught.
However, despite the machine guns and shells that kept harvesting the lives of the German soldiers, the Germans still desperately attacked the defensive line of the position, and they frantically rushed to the trench defense line under the cover of their own heavy artillery fire.
"Hey, these damn **s are crazy too, are they just going to have war left in their heads!"
When Gary and the others reached the third trench line, a black sergeant yelled.
"We are running out of ammunition, and if we continue to fight, we will be stormed to the first trench line!"
"Where's the reinforcements!"
"They're already here!"
Under the gunfire, some officers shouted loudly.
"Sergeant Fury, you take these reinforcements and immediately rush into the first trench line from the flank, suppress those crazy German **, and I will arrange artillery fire to cover you!" A lieutenant shouted to the black sergeant.
βwhatοΌ Are you kidding, these soldiers who have come over are obviously new recruits, look, there are also people with weak legs, and now you tell me, let them press in from the flanks? The black sergeant yelled.
The lieutenant ignored Sergeant Fury's words and directly ordered an artillery strike.
"Hey, what are you doing in a daze, all follow me!" Sergeant Fury yelled at Gary and the others, and quickly walked along the trench line to the flank.
As he walked, he also shouted: "Those guys who play with machine guns, all fight hard, Lao Tzu doesn't want to die halfway." β
Boom!
Da-da-da-da!
With the sound of artillery fire and heavy gunfire, Fury knew very well that he could not miss this opportunity, and he yelled at the group of recruits behind him: "Follow me, remember not to stop!" β
As soon as the words fell, he jerked towards the first trench line.
Woohoo.
With a screeching sound, the bullets rained down on the flanks of the position almost instantaneously.
Puff puff.
The sound of bullets entering the flesh was accompanied by screams, and the soldiers who ran with Fury soon continued to fall.
"Don't stop!" Sergeant Fury didn't have time to turn back, he yelled as he ran.
And Gary took a deep breath, slammed on the ground, and used his strength to speed up wildly, rushing to the first trench line in less than tens of seconds.
Da-da-da-da!
He immediately picked up a Maxim machine gun on the edge of the trench and swept it up.
A large number of German soldiers who rushed to a distance of ten meters from the trench were quickly swept into a hornet's nest by machine guns.
Seeing this, Garry simply held a heavy machine gun and fired quickly along the trench.
Suddenly, the German soldiers were suppressed and could only retreat.
And the firepower that originally attacked the flank was quickly transferred to Gary's side.
The pressure on Fury's side eased instantly, and they ran to the trench side one after another.
Rumble!
Several shells landed on Gary's side.
"Be careful!" Fury yelled.
Gary, who has absorbed cosmic energy, has a reflex far beyond that of ordinary people, and when he hears a scream, he quickly hides in the trenches.
A large amount of dust fell, covering him.
"Hey, boy, aren't you going to die!" Fury came to the trench and pulled Gary up from the dirt, scolding on his lips, but with a look of surprise and appreciation in his eyes.
Gary patted the dirt on his shoulder and grinned: "Those *** can't kill me!" β
"Nick Fury!" The black sergeant held out his hand.
"John Gary."
As soon as the two shook hands, they knew each other.
"You don't look like a recruit at all." Fury looked at Gary Dao.
Gary shook his head, "Now is not the time to say that!" β
Gary was not excited at all about seeing the legendary Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. Nick Fury on the battlefield, after all, this was a front-line battlefield that could be called a meat grinder, and he didn't have the time to sigh.
Boom!
After another wave of onslaught was repulsed, the German firepower became more ferocious, and shells rained down on the positions of the American and British forces.
Gary and the others stayed in the trenches and didn't dare to come forward at all.
"These damn **s***, aren't they short of ammunition!" Fury cursed, and after the artillery fire was over, he shouted: "Fire suppression, give me a hard beat!" β
The first trench line was very important, although the 102nd Regiment was composed entirely of new recruits, but with trenches as cover, they still held back the frantic counterattack of the Germans.
Second, the soldiers of the third trench relieved themselves and organized the soldiers to rush to the first trench to suppress the German onslaught.
Fierce firefighting continued from morning to evening.
It was only after nightfall that the sound of artillery fire stopped, and the Germans seemed to feel that they could not break through the line and retreated like a tide.
"Whew."
Many soldiers breathed a sigh of relief, and exhausted, they collapsed in the trenches to rest, regardless of their image.
Gary was also leaning against the trench pit, motionless like a dead man, the first time he experienced this kind of cruel and high-load war, even if he had absorbed the cosmic energy, he felt more tired than ever, especially his mental state, which was extremely poor.
"Vomit ......"
Looking at the stumps and broken legs in the trenches, a stream of nausea poured over the river and the sea welled up in my heart.
"Don't hold it up, it'll feel better if you spit it out."
Sergeant Fury next to him said softly.
Vomit......
Gary couldn't hold back anymore and vomited directly, but fortunately he hadn't eaten all day, and all he vomited was sour water.
Fury shook his head, "It's hard to imagine that you're in a war for the first time. β
Originally, he didn't believe it, but when he saw Gary's appearance, he immediately believed it, and the first time he went to the front, he was no better than Gary.
"Take a sip of water." Fury handed over the military kettle.
Gary was not polite either, and took a sip of it.
After drinking the water, he felt much better.
"The first time I went to the front line, I still experienced this kind of large-scale war, your performance is much better than mine, if it weren't for you, these recruits would not be alive so much, I will apply to the commander for your merits!" Fury applauded.
"Thank you, I'm already feeling lucky to be alive."
