Chapter 14: The Witch
It's been a week since that night in the blink of an eye. For a week, Olivia would often hide in a corner and secretly observe Neil, trying to find out what was going on, but she didn't know that her unusual behavior was being watched by Freya and Richie. During an alchemy class, Richie touches Neil with his elbow and then glances to the window, motioning Neil to look out. Neil didn't move, even though he was aware of Olivia. He didn't want to get into any weird trouble before he found out the secrets of the academy, after all, since Erin brought a schoolgirl named Freya to ask this question, it was enough of a headache, and the rumors of some kind of "pseudo-aristocracy" sounded synonymous with trouble. Speaking of which, these people are really curious, and whenever Neil looks around, he always finds a few pairs of eyes looking at him from time to time. No way, who called his outfit so 'personality', "Strange Monk" is his nickname. Ignoring these strange stares for a moment, Neil pretended not to know and listened to the teacher's basic algorithm about magic. It's just that one of the things they talk about a lot of time has caught his attention recently, and it seems to be about a festival called "Witch's Night".
After school that day, Neil and Erin drove to the dormitory in a carriage driven by Richie as usual. On the way, Neil stepped out of the carriage, sat down next to Richie, and asked him, "Richie, do you know about 'Witch's Night'?" "Oh, you should be referring to the annual ban of Landu Academy. At this time of year, the academy would take Kingsley from the courtyard to the Jinqing Forest on the outskirts of Blue Capital, where I heard that there was an altar to protect them. "Protect them?" Neil instinctively narrowed his eyes. "That's because every 'Witch's Night' there will be people who inexplicably transform, especially Kingsley in the school park, it is said that the appearance of the disease is somewhat similar to the demon in the legend. It was also since the unforeseen outbreak three years ago, which resulted in casualties, that the College enacted this law. After listening to Richie's words, Neil returned to the carriage and looked at Erin in a state of tutoring thoughtfully.
When he returned to the house to see off Richie, Neil told Erin to rest for a while, and he went into the kitchen to make dinner with the ingredients that Fili had helped procure. Usually Erin usually comes over to help out, but today it was very quiet. Looks really tired, Neil thought to Erin as she fell asleep on the couch. She was about to put a thin blanket on her when there was a knock on the door. It turned out to be a student of the magic department named Freya, who was Erin's senior sister. Recently, thanks to her and Richie's alternate care of Erin, Neil was able to get out of his way to investigate the house, so even though the student had a lot of questions about him, Neil didn't say much, and Erin seemed to like to be around her. Neil opened the door and only said to her, "Erin, she's asleep, you wait a little and let her rest." Then he turned and walked back to the kitchen. The cold attitude made Freya's sentence "It's okay..." Neil was cooking dinner alone in the kitchen, when there was a sound of Suo in the living room, and Freya, dressed in civilian clothes, appeared beside him and consciously helped.
Time passed, and the bright yellow sunlight slipped through the window from one side of the horizon, shining on the two who were busy with dinner. The picture is slightly dim, and the atmosphere becomes dull in the dimness. Freya was the first to break the deadlock, only to see that she first took out a hedron and placed it into a metal round platform, and the entire first floor suddenly became bright. Then she pretended not to care and asked Neil, "Do you know where Erin's string of bells came from?" Neil frowned, continued to shred, and casually replied, "Oh, you said that." I picked it up on a hunting trip, and Ireen gave it to her when she liked it. Freya froze after hearing Neil's words, and then asked Neil, a little anxiously, "Do you remember where you picked it up?" Freya looked at Neil expectantly again. "I'm sorry, it's been too long I don't remember. Neil scratched his head and looked at Freya. Freya was a little distracted by her disappointed expectations, and she said to Neil, "Can you please tell me about the string of bells?" Please wake up Erin. Freya answered and went to the living room to wake Erin, and Neil was relieved.
At the dinner table, Neil and Freya each chewed on the food in front of them, each with their own plans in mind, only occasionally helping Erin with spices and utensils. "Sister Freya, Brother Neil's dinner is delicious. Erin had just swallowed a piece of meat and said to Freya. "It's delicious! Neil, thank you. She turned her face to Neil, picked up a small piece of meat with a silver fork, and elegantly sent it to her lips and teeth, and her oiled lips were plump. "Just have a good time. As he spoke, Neil grabbed the spices and dishes and began his experimental, such as pouring hot sauce and minced garlic on the marinated meat in proportion, rolling it up with Berlogan leaves, and inserting a few danzhi tentacles. "Oh, indescribable taste. Neil muttered to herself, and Freya echoed it but didn't show it. Erin looked a little helpless, looking at Freya who looked erratic and Neil who was "trying" on her own, but she had to say nothing.
After a dull meal, Freya began to tutor little Erin in her schoolwork. "Huh, Brother Neil?" little Irene stopped her pen and looked at Neil, who was sitting on the sofa in the corner and reading a book. "What's wrong?" Neil asked, closing the magic book in his hand. "Why didn't you go out for a 'walk' today?" even Freya asked Neil curiously. "Oh, that's what you're talking about. Today, when I saw the materials I was interested in from the library, I copied the contents with the magic guide book, and I just used the current time to look at it. After saying that, he waved the magic book in his hand to the two of them. "And it just so happens that I can use this time to spend time with Erin, doesn't it? After listening to his words, the two dispelled the doubts in their hearts, and Erin's heart was even more happy, and then they began to tutor tonight.
When the night is getting stronger, the moonscape of the college is a little cool, and the warm light of the old house in the secluded place is shining through the window edge little by little. "It's almost this time. Neil closed the book again, and stood up to look at the two of them. Upon closer inspection, a faint halo seemed to emanate from their long glittering gold and lilac hair. As if sensing a strange noise behind her, Freya turned to look at Neil, staring at each other. "It's almost time Irene, it's time to get ready for bed. Neil said to Erin on the other side. "Hmm. Erin answered, and then packed her things and went upstairs.
"Then I should—" Before Freya could finish speaking, Neil interrupted, "Miss Freya, please sit down for a moment, I have a few questions. "'Hmmmm!mmmm. That's it. Freya agreed to Neil, and walked towards Neil. She adjusted her pace and lost no time in spotting the corner of Neil's turban. Suddenly, within a step of Neil, one stumbles forward, reaching for the corner of his turban with both hands. But he didn't expect Neil to take a step back at this time, just in time to hold her two arms. Freya, who missed the opportunity, didn't want to stop there, after all, she had made up her mind with great difficulty. I saw her stand up, thank you and continue to walk to the sofa in front of her. Just as she staggered from Neil, she cast a little magic spell with the ring on her finger. Freya sat down on the couch and thought, 'Just tear off that headscarf when he falls.' But then, Neil turned around and sat down on the couch.
The atmosphere was silent for a few minutes, and Neil then asked Freya, "Is it different from what you imagined?" Freya was stunned for a moment and said, "I don't know what you're talking about?" "It's okay if you don't know, you just have to look at your ring." "Huh?" Freya instinctively looked at the ring, only to notice that the originally bright gem had been covered with a layer of metallic sand. "The right amount of evenly distributed stable material can cut off the triggering of gem magic, isn't it? Neil raised the magic book in his hand once more. "I don't know what you're talking about!" Freya, who came back to her senses, pretended to be calm and quibbled again. In an instant, the temperature in the living room dropped a few points, and it was not some kind of magic that caused this phenomenon, but the cold killing intent that penetrated into the bone marrow. Neil looked into Freya's eyes, pierced the chill into her beautiful amber pupils, and said to her word by word, "If you have some kind of plan, are you really ready to pay the corresponding price?" 'Almost,' Neil thought to himself, then softened his tone and said to Freya, "Miss Freya, I would like to ask you to tell me what you know about the Witch's Night." The awe-inspiring killing intent that filled the living room just now gradually disappeared as he finished saying this.
For the next few minutes, Freya lost her nerves and mechanically told Neil about the 'Witch's Night', until a quick knock was heard on the door. It turned out that Olivia, who had been waiting outside the house for a long time, came to pick up Freya and go back. "Freya, what's wrong with you!" As soon as she opened the door and saw Freya, Olivia noticed the strangeness of her expression. "It's okay, let's go back quickly. So saying, he went out of the house and got into the carriage. Olivia, who didn't know why, raised her fist at Neil before getting into the car, as if to say, 'Look what you've done.' Neil smiled wryly and stood outside the house to watch them leave.
On a remote path, a horse-drawn carriage roared towards the center of the college. Olivia, who was sitting in the carriage, tried to comfort Freya, who was crying next to her. "No, it's not him, it's certainly not him! he won't be like this!" Freya cried as she took out a copper coin hanging from her chest and held it tightly, and Freya cried even harder. Olivia on the side looked at her but was helpless, so she could only silently write down Neil's account in her heart.
At the same time, in the old mansion, Erin walked up the stairs to Neil who was about to go upstairs and asked, "Brother Neil, what do you think of Sister Freya?" "Okay. Erin had to walk back to her room. 'I wonder if that's good or bad?' Neil sighed and went upstairs.
