Chapter 295: Under the Ground

While the Enchanter was still battling the Serpents in the dark metal chapel, the Demon Spawn who abandoned him had gone deeper into the vast underground system of Molten Iron City. Krus doesn't regret his decision to abandon the Raven, and he doesn't think that the Grey-robed Wizard will actually die at the hands of the Carnivorous Cotton, on the contrary, his departure will allow the Raven to use his magic more smoothly without worrying about being snooped on by his improvised teammates.

However, the Demon Spawn had no intention of going back to the Spell Master, even if the gray robe didn't care about Krus's actions on the surface, but the appearance of the flesh-eating cotton had already caused an irreparable gap between the two, and instead of spending a lot of effort to maintain this fragile cooperative relationship, the Demon Spawn was more inclined to act alone. Similarly, unlike the Raven who wandered aimlessly underground and eventually stumbled into the metal temple by mistake, Krus had a clear plan in mind from the start.

He wanted to go all the way down, through the intricate pipes of the Molten Iron City, into the secret that the city had tried so hard to hide, the deepest secret he had heard from his old friends, the city had been founded. The deeper he walked down the corridor, the more sloppy the passage became, and when he noticed that there were no signs of artificial excavation on the wall at hand, and instead there was a naturally formed rock corridor, Krus knew that the Hammer Duke had not lied to him.

The complex underground system of the Molten Iron City was not built by the dwarven habits of the rulers, and the reason why the Grand Duke of Hammer had constructed such an intricate underground labyrinth with his great architectural talent was to cover up the passages he had discovered deep within the land. And the inhabitants of these passages, according to the dwarves, a group of monsters with snake-like heads and human-like limbs, creatures with innately evil qualities, who killed many of the pioneers who followed the dwarves.

Now that the Demonborn had left the stratum overseen by the Grand Duke of the Hammer, the passages that stretched out into the darkness before him belonged to the more ancient and mysterious races. Krus didn't think that the nezumi could enter the duke's sewers silently, but those who lived deep underground could become a danger to the Molten Iron City if they were willing to step out of the gloomy passages.

"Andrei, that fool, danger is at his feet, but the dwarves don't want to look down. Looking at the paw prints on the walls, which were clearly new, Krus grumbled under his breath. His eyes burning with demonic fire could see the faint heat remaining in the paw prints, and this level of temperature residue was not a problem by human standards, but the snakeheads had a snake head after all, and the demon descendants guessed that their body temperature might be as cold as a real snake.

Now there are two choices before Krus, whether he should immediately follow the paw prints and return to the dwarven sewers to find the basilisk that left the cave, or follow the trail and enter the world of the smugglers to see what kind of creatures live under this thriving city. The Demon Spawn pondered, his demonic gifts gave Clarus the confidence that he could navigate even in the darkness of the earth, and that his inner desire for adventure was calling him forward. But......

Fear of an old friend made the Demon Spawn hesitate. Andrei was one of the few friends he had in this world, and he couldn't afford to take that risk. Krus knew how cold the world was for lonely people, and years ago, when he was still in pain because of his identity, it was the dwarves and a few other companions who took him in and allowed him to see another sky.

"Good luck for you. The Demon Spawn said into the deep hole. Turn around and walk back into the tunnel that leads to the surface. But as soon as he took a few steps forward, he turned around and rushed into the darkness, and the red flames in his eyes and body were quickly extinguished, and his eyes as black as ashes peeked coldly into the tunnel. The instinct that good fighters can always react to certain dangers is what differentiates them from rookies. Krus trusted his instincts, so he went into hiding as soon as he sensed something was wrong.

Sure enough, three or four objects with a temperature higher than the walls soon appeared in the darkness, and judging from the edges, they undoubtedly belonged to the terrifying underground legend, a group of snakeheads. The Demon's footsteps moved quietly, the protruding walls of the primitive cavern allowing him to climb to the top of the cavern silently, and no one would normally check what was above their heads.

The snake-headed men stopped at the entrance of the cave, and they talked to each other in hoarse voices, judging from the way they looked at each other, they were waiting for someone. Interestingly, the Demon Spawn's eyes narrowed, and he moved forward a short distance to make sure he was still in the enemy's blind spot. Upon closer inspection, Krus could see that none of the snake-headed men were wearing cloth clothing, but instead armor made of stone flakes, each holding a short spear of stone in their hands, and a dagger made of snake's teeth hanging from their waists.

These guys were clearly warriors, and the Demon Descend could tell from his vast knowledge that Kalus had seen multiple races and their social systems, which made him see through the identity of these snakeheads at a glance, and their neat and disciplined behavior could only be done by established warriors. So, who are these warriors with snakeheads waiting for? are they teammates who have fallen behind, or are they some targets worth protecting?

Although the smuggler warriors looked a little agitated, they showed no fear or defensiveness, which means that this was definitely not the first time they had stayed here, in other words, it was not the first time they had infiltrated the underground of the Molten Iron City. Karus wondered why his old friend knew about the existence of these monsters and didn't seal the way to the surface from the underground caverns, did he expect this labyrinth to trap the snakeheads underground forever?

"Gaha!" a snake-headed man shouted to the rest of his companions, pointing in a certain direction of the tunnel and waving the stone spear in his hand. The other smugglers looked at each other and seemed to agree with the guy and responded, and they quickly walked in that direction into the tunnel.

Can't wait?" Krus frowned and thought, the patience of the smugglers seemed to be exhausted, whatever they were waiting for, it looked like they had now decided to walk over and see what had kept the group of warriors waiting. The curious demon descended silently from the roof of the cave, a faint red glow flashing in his eyes, allowing him to clearly see the hot footprints left by the snakeheads on the ground.

Go and have a look, Krus thought.
