Vol.2 The Worlds and the Complete Continent Gaiden (2)

With the birth of the universe, a scream announced the beginning of the void.

The Void represents some kind of unknowable life form on the other side of the realm.

They are an insatiable hunger, waiting for eternity until their masters, the heretics of all planes, call the shots for the final dissolution of all things.

When mortals are touched by this power, it is equivalent to getting a glimpse of the eternal illusion. At the same time, the severe pain and torment are enough to break the strongest will. The Void is inhabited by many creatures, often with very primitive cognitive abilities, as they are given only one goal - to bring total annihilation to all planes that arrive.

Kaisha, who was taken away by the void as a child, survived with sheer stubbornness and willpower.

Her experience has made her a deadly hunter, or perhaps a messenger of the dark future. She forms a restless symbiosis with a living void creature carapace, and soon she will be faced with a fateful choice: to forgive the mortals who call her a monster and work together to fend off the oppressive darkness... Or simply forget, let the void swallow up the world that has abandoned her.

Perhaps the most commendable thing about the brave Void Hunter Kai'Sa is her humble origins. She is not the descendant of battle-hardened tribal warriors, nor is she a brave warrior who has answered the call to come from afar to fight against the unknowable demons of Shurima's underground. On the contrary, she was just an ordinary little girl. Although she was born in the harsh environment of the southern desert, her parents' love gave her warmth. During the day, she plays and frolicks with her friends; At night, she wondered about her future place in the world.

Kesha's fate changed forever when she was ten years old.

If she had been older, she might have been more likely to notice that something unusual was happening in the village—every day, her mother forced her to stay at home, beware of strangers roaming the neighborhood. They demanded tribute and sacrificed to the dark forces underground.

At first, Keisha and her friends didn't believe it, but that night, they came across a fence of goats that had been bought from nomadic tribes for sacrifice. Keisha pulled out the dagger her father had given her on her eighth birthday, cut the ropes, and released the cattle into a nearby valley. It was originally just an unintentional prank by a child, but then it led to the unthinkable. The earth began to tremble, scorching flashes pierced the sky, and the children fled.

The Void is awakened. The bedrock of the earth cracked into a deep ravine, swallowing Kesha's village and all the people inside. Only twisted stone pillars as black as night were left, piercing the yellow sand of the desert.

Keisha wakes up to find herself trapped underground. Fear immobilized her, but she wasn't completely desperate – she could hear the cries of the other survivors. They called out to each other weakly, repeating their names over and over again as if chanting. Three days passed, and only her own voice remained. Friends and family were gone, leaving her alone in the dark.

It was at the moment when it was all gone that she saw the light.

She followed the light, all the way down.

She found bits and pieces of food along the way. The rubble left behind by the collapse can occasionally be found scattered with water bags, rotten peaches - anything that can satisfy the stomach is precious. But eventually, Keisha's hunger was replaced by fear once again. She finds herself in a huge cavern, illuminated by a ghostly purple shimmer, and she's no longer alone.

In the abyss, there are large groups of creatures that are stumbling. A creature her size pounced. She clenched the dagger in both hands, trying to protect herself. The Ethereal threw her to the ground, but she stabbed her blade into its shimmering pulsating heart, and both rolled deeper into the abyss.

The creature looked dead, but its strange skin was firmly attached to her arm. This dark carapace is tingling, but as hard as steel to the touch. Keisha tries to peel off the carapace, but in her panic, she breaks the dagger. But when the bigger monster pounced, she used the hard shell as cover and managed to escape.

Soon, she realized that the carapace had become a part of her. Every day of hard life stretches into long years. The new second skin grows with her, and her will grows stronger and stronger.

Now, Keisha has more than just hope, but also a plan.

Fight with all your might, stay alive, and find your way home.

She has changed, from a frightened little girl to a fearless survivor, from a prey to a hunter. For nearly a decade, she lived in the gap between the two worlds, trying to draw a line between them—the Void wanted to devour not just the scattered villages of Shurima, but the entire Land of Runeterra. She would never allow it.

Although countless void creatures had died at her hands, she also knew that most of the people she protected regarded her as a monster. Indeed, her name has become a legend. Ancient fears from the ruins of Acacia echo with it.

There is no more Keisha, only Kaisha survives.

.....

"Listen to me," I told the little girl.

She found me next to the pit.

"I want you to listen, time is running out."

She poked her head out, and there was no trace of fear in her eyes: "Tell me what to do." ”

I like her.

A light smile bloomed on my face, and it was as if it had passed since the last smile... Forever.

"No," I said, gesturing with the arrow she was holding.

She held it in her hand as if she were holding a spear.

I was very young when the Void kidnapped me from my family, so I didn't understand anything at the time. But others, they were too careless. Sacrifices, sacrifices, tributes—whatever you want to call them, they won't work anyway. It is not God and will never be satisfied with giving and praying. All it wants is to devour everything.

"Do you want to kill it? Want to destroy it? I asked her.

She nodded.

"Then starve it."

The pinprick in the flesh was stronger, as if in response to this sentence. A coercion was approaching, and my second skin began to contract, tightening like a strong bow. I took one last deep breath and prepared to meet them.

The gravel began to flow, like a collapsing whirlpool in an hourglass. An eerie shimmer of light pulsated into the night sky, and the creatures leaped high in the night of Shurima, salivating and roaring wildly. I steadied my body, and the energy built up in my shoulder pods.

I gritted my teeth and energy poured out.

Bright scorching heat and roaring pain rained down from the sky, striking in an instant, cutting the creatures to a halt and flipping them to their sides. There was a sour stench in the air, interspersed with the hissing of chitin dissolving.

Soon, the monster was reduced to nothing. The pinprick sensation should have stopped soon, but it didn't.

The little girl was half-crouched beside me, still in an attacking stance. She may not be able to comprehend what she had just witnessed.

"Does it hurt?" She whispered as she reached out to the glimmering scales on my arm.

I subconsciously withdrew my hand. She was not cowardly at all.

"Occasionally," I admitted.

Not far away, her village continued to sleep unawarely. The little girl's curiosity completely controlled her. There were so many stories and fables that both frightened and fascinated her. Ethereal monsters hunt in the dead night, calling out to each other.

She wanted to see it with her own eyes. Look at what is hidden behind the rocks, and see what people are afraid of.

My skin tightened again.

The tip of the needle, the constant stinging ...

I blinked, "Sorry, you haven't told me your name yet." ”

She stood proudly, still holding the arrow in her hand. "My name is Elly. I'm here to protect my family and drive away the monsters. ”

She was not yet ten years old.

"Well, Ellie, you need to know that sometimes it's all about running for your life."

"But you didn't run," she said, narrowing her eyes, "right?" ”

Clever little girl.

I shook my head, "I won't run anymore." ”

"Then I won't run!" Ellie courageously announced loudly.

She had no idea what people were facing. Nobody knows. All they did to get rid of the monster was to ring the bell for dinner.

"Ellie, you're going to tell them. Let them know that no more dancing under the crescent moon. Don't tie the animals to the stakes anymore. The Void doesn't know what it means to be merciful—it dies if it doesn't eat. ”

That day, I understood all this, and I also knew that I had a glimmer of hope. Maybe that's why I survived, and so many others died.

But survival always comes at a price. I've been paying back the price ever since I found my way back.

"Look......," the little girl whispered. They're coming for us. ”

I don't need to look. I knew they were coming. With intuition, the carapace covered my face. Ellie looked up at me.

"Don't be intimidated," my voice became distorted and weird, perfectly trying to mean the opposite.

"Frightened by what?" She asked.

I smiled again, but she couldn't see it anymore.

Only a handful of people have ever seen me in person, or rather, what is now covering me. All but two died.

Eli's people seem to be capable hunters. Only capable people can live here. I understand where her courage comes from. Their torches flickered in the darkness.

"Daddy!" She didn't warn me and yelled at the villagers who came to search for me. "I found her! The girl who came back alive. ”

They are now coming towards us, weapons in their hands, and fire in their eyes. "Ellie!" Her father shouted as he put the arrow on his bow.

"Away from that...... Thing, stay away! ”

She looked up at me again, confused.

Nine times out of ten, a child of Ellie's age would have turned around and ran, or even more exaggerated.

I know what most people say about me. I've seen them scribble their fears on mud walls that stretch down to the boulders in the valleys.

The girl who came back is a monster, please be careful!

They don't know me at all. To them, I was just something they didn't want to face – a living, walking, fighting symbol, symbolizing what they feared the most. I guess that's why they changed my name.

Ten years ago, I was Keisha – similar to Ellie, looking forward to a future as starry as the night sky. But on the day I was taken captive by the Void, the future was completely shattered.

Acupuncture is back. Ellie let go of my hand as the gleaming weapon began to take shape on my arms.

"Go find him," I told her. "Go find your father."

"Ellie, run!" Her father pleaded, pulling the bowstring with trembling hands.

"Don't!" She yelled and turned to me. "I'm not going to run away anymore."

I gently pushed her forward with my hand, eyes still locked on the villagers. "It's not a run, Eli, you're born a warrior. They will need you. ”

After taking a few steps, she turned. "What should I say to them?"

"Tell them...... Tell them to be prepared. ”

The Void has taken too much from me, but I refuse to let it take it all. These small moments, when kindness and humanity shine through our hearts, when innocence and trust dispel fear—all these moments fill me with hope that we can overcome the age-old undercurrents that are surging deep underground.

The first time I escaped the abyss and survived, it was for myself.

Maybe one day, I'll live for them.

"What about you?" Eli then said, "Where are you going?" ”

"Me?"

"Perhaps... I'll find the one who's come back alive from the void like me. ”

On the night of the meteor a few days ago, I sensed that I was not alone.

That's a stronger hope than I am.
