Chapter 18 Spring Festival

About the Spring Festival, it also has a number of legends, one of the legends of the Spring Festival: staying up to keep the year and keep the year, that is, the custom of not sleeping on the last night of the old year and staying up late to welcome the arrival of the new year, also called Chinese New Year's Eve, commonly known as "staying up the year". Exploring the origin of this custom, there is an interesting story circulating among the people:

In the primeval period, there was a fierce monster that lived in the deep mountains and dense forests, and people called them "Nian". Its appearance is hideous, ferocious by nature, specializing in birds and animals, scaly insects, changing a taste every day, from kowtow insects to eating big living people, making people talk about the "year" color change. Later, people slowly grasped the activity law of "Nian", which is to go to the place where the crowd gathers once every 365 days to taste the freshness, and the time of haunting is after dark, and when the rooster crows and dawn, they return to the mountains and forests. After calculating the date when the "year" was raging, the people regarded this terrible night as a pass and called it "New Year's Pass", and came up with a whole set of ways to pass the New Year's pass: every night, every family prepared dinner in advance, turned off the fire and cleaned the stove, and then tied all the chicken pens and cattle pens, sealed the front and rear doors of the house, and hid in the house to eat "Chinese New Year's Eve dinner". Before eating, the ancestors must be offered to pray for the blessing of the ancestors, and the night will be spent peacefully. The habit of staying up on Chinese New Year's Eve has gradually formed.

The custom of keeping the New Year arose in the Northern and Southern Dynasties, and many literati in the Liang Dynasty had poems and essays about keeping the New Year. "One night is two years old, and five watches are divided into two years." People light candles or oil lamps and keep vigil all night to symbolize the drive away all evil plagues and diseases, and look forward to the auspicious new year. This custom has been passed down to the present day.

The second legend of the Spring Festival: the creation of the calendar of ten thousand years is said to be passed down, in ancient times, there was a young man named Wan Nian, who saw that the seasons were very chaotic at that time, and he had the intention of setting the seasons accurately. But he couldn't find a way to calculate the time, one day, he went up the mountain to chop firewood and was tired, sat under the shade of the tree to rest, the movement of the tree shadow inspired him, he designed a sundial to measure the time of the day, and later, the dripping spring on the cliff inspired him, and he made a five-layer leaky pot to calculate the time. As the days went by, he found that every 360 days, the four seasons were reincarnated, and the length of the days was repeated.

The monarch at that time was called Zu Yi, and he was often distressed by the unpredictable weather. After Wannian knew about it, he took the sundial and the leaky pot to see the emperor, and explained to Zu Yi the truth of the operation of the sun and the moon. After hearing this, Zu Yi felt overjoyed and felt reasonable. So he left 10,000 years behind, built the Sun and Moon Pavilion in front of the Temple of Heaven, and built the sundial platform and the leaky pot pavilion. And hope to measure the law of the sun and the moon, calculate the accurate morning and evening time, create a calendar, and benefit the people of the world.

Once, Zu Yi went to learn about the progress of the 10,000-year test calendar. When he ascended the Temple of the Sun and the Moon, he saw a poem engraved on the stone wall next to the Temple of Heaven:

The sunrise and sunset are three hundred and six, and the cycle starts from the beginning.

The grass and trees are divided into four times, and there are twelve rounds in a year.

Knowing that the calendar of 10,000 years has been completed, he personally climbed the Sun Moon Pavilion to see 10,000 years. Wan Nian pointed to the celestial phenomena and said to Zu Yi: "It is now the end of the twelfth month, the old year is over, and the new year is resumed, so please ask the monarch to set a festival." Zu Yi said: "Spring is the first year of the year, so let's call it the Spring Festival." It is said that this is the origin of the Spring Festival.

Winter went to spring, year after year, after a long period of observation, careful calculation, and developed an accurate solar calendar, when he presented the solar calendar to the successor monarch, he was already full of silver beard. The monarch was deeply moved, and in order to commemorate the achievements of ten thousand years, he named the solar calendar "perpetual calendar" and named ten thousand years as the sun and moon birthday star. Later, people hung up the birthday chart during the New Year, which is said to commemorate the 10,000 years of high morality.

, Spring Festival Legend No. 3: Paste Spring Festival couplets and door gods

It is said that the custom of pasting Spring Festival couplets began in the Later Shu period more than a thousand years ago, which is evidenced by history. In addition, according to the records of "Jade Candle Treasure Book", "Yanjing Years Chronicle" and other works, the original form of the Spring Festival couplets is what people call "peach charms".

In ancient Chinese mythology, it is said that there is a world of ghosts, in which there is a mountain, and there is a large peach tree covering 3,000 miles on the mountain, and there is a golden rooster on the treetop. Whenever the golden rooster crows in the morning, the ghosts that wander out at night will drive back to the ghost realm. The gate of the ghost domain is located in the northeast of the peach tree, and there are two gods standing by the door, named Shen Tu and Yu Lei. If the ghost did something unreasonable during the night, Shen Tu and Yu Lei would immediately find out and catch it, tie it up with a rope made of mango reeds, and send it to feed the tiger. Therefore, the ghosts of the world are afraid of the gods and gloom. So the people carved their appearance with peach wood and placed it at the door of their house to ward off evil and prevent harm. Later, people simply carved the names of Shen Tu and Yu Lei on the peach wood board, believing that this could also suppress evil and eliminate evil. This kind of peach plank was later called "peach charm".

In the Song Dynasty, people began to write couplets on the peach board, one does not lose the meaning of the peach wood to suppress evil, the second expresses their good wishes, and the third decorates the portal in order to be beautiful. Couplets are also written on red paper symbolizing joy and auspiciousness, and pasted on both sides of doors and windows on the occasion of the New Year to express people's good wishes for good luck in the coming year.

In order to pray for the happiness of the family, people in some places still retain the habit of sticking to the door god. It is said that there are two door gods on the gate, and all demons and monsters will be feared. In the folk, the door god is a symbol of righteousness and force, and the ancients believed that people with surprising appearance often have magical temperament and extraordinary skills. They are upright and kind-hearted, and it is their nature and responsibility to hunt ghosts and catch demons. Therefore, the folk door gods are always angry-eyed, hideous-looking, holding all kinds of traditional weapons in their hands, ready to fight the ghosts who dare to come to the door. Since the doors of our people's houses are usually two open, the door gods are always in pairs.

After the Tang Dynasty, in addition to the two generals of the past Shen Tu and Yu Lei, people regarded Qin Shubao and Wei Chi Gong as the two Tang Dynasty military generals. According to legend, Tang Taizong was sick and heard the ghost cry outside the door, and he couldn't be at peace all night. So he had the two generals stand by the door with their weapons in hand, and the next night there were no more ghosts. Later, Tang Taizong asked people to draw the images of these two generals and paste them on the door, and this custom began to spread widely among the people.

These legends about the Spring Festival have been widely spread by Chinese, just like Christmas in Western countries, but the tradition of sticking Spring Festival and door gods is not very popular in many big cities, but it is a must for every family in the countryside to celebrate the New Year.

When I said the Spring Festival, I just nagged a few more words, I hope you don't be surprised, we went out to the airport, there are a lot of people at the airport, and now it is the Spring Festival period, needless to say, we arrived at the airport for about half an hour, Jiang Hao's father has not gotten off the plane, I stayed in the car with Yujiao's mother Zifeng's brother, because it was cool outside, it was very cold, and now it is still the end of winter, although the sun is out, but it is still very cold. The airport personnel shuttled, and there was an endless stream, and suddenly, Uncle Jin ran over and said, "Madam, Mr. has gotten off the plane." Yujiao's mother said excitedly, "Okay, you go first, we'll come right away," and then we got out of the car, Yujiao's mother took me with her left hand, and Brother Zifeng with her right hand, and walked towards the exit, and from a distance I saw a man in an expensive suit waving to us, "Yu'er, here." Jiang Hao was very happy to see his family who had been away for many days, and he was accompanied by a beautiful female secretary, who looked like a strong woman, young and beautiful, about twenty years old, with her hair neatly pulled up. Coiled into a bun.

I don't look at her as soon as she is not a good person, a bit like Yu Fang, she is a vixen, I am looking at her at the same time, she is also looking at me, I look away, Yujiao's mother said: "Ruoruo, that's your Jiang Hao's father." Before I could speak, Jiang Hao's father rushed over, first to protect Yujiao's mother and said, "Yu'er, I miss you so much." He then hugged Brother Zifeng, and then it was me, I looked at the handsome Jiang Hao's father in front of me, and my heart was full of joy, he hugged me and said: "You are Ruoruo, you look so cute, so beautiful, Yu'er, I really like this child, Yu'er, thank you for the surprise." Luo Weiwei, who was standing not far away, felt very uncomfortable, why is their family so happy, and she is not as good as that woman, my fingertips are pinched into the flesh, but the hatred that flashed in her eyes did not escape my eyes, because she is the same as Yu Fang, it is the same look.

She walked over and said respectfully: "President, madam, I will not disturb the reunion of the family, I am here to wish the family a happy new year." Yujiao's mother politely replied, "Miss Luo, see you next year, happy new year." Yujiao's mother instructed: "Uncle Jin, you go and drive the car over." "Uncle Jin went to see the car, our family chatted while walking, Uncle Jin drove the car, we sat in the car, talking and laughing.

It took about an hour or so for us to arrive home, the family had already prepared a rich Chinese New Year's Eve dinner, and Yujiao's mother was busy introducing Uncle Ping to them, "Qing'er, Li Ping, this is your brother-in-law, Jiang Hao." Aunt Li and Uncle Heping replied: "Brother-in-law is good." Jiang Hao's father looked at Li Haoran on the sofa and said, "This kid is Ranran." Li Haoran replied politely: "I'm Li Haoran, hello uncle!" "After the greetings, everyone sat together for a Chinese New Year's Eve dinner, so lively. Some of the servants in the family also went home for the Spring Festival, and those who stayed behind were Uncle Jin and Sister-in-law Zhang, who had no relatives. After the meal, Jiang Hao's father gave us red envelopes, and everyone played poker together, and every corner of the house was full of laughter、、、、、、、
