Chapter 18: Business Trips#
Qi Min got a chance to go on a business trip, so things in the laboratory had to be arranged.
Since Chen Linyou and Wang Xin's EPS cell experiments were started, Qi Min hasn't paid much attention to them. It stands to reason that if she were to leave for three or four days, there should be no gibberish in the lab. But just in case, she still has to explain, especially the matter of arranging Ke Li.
When it was almost time to eat on Friday afternoon, Wang Xin and Chen Linyou came to Qi Min to fight for takeout.
Qi Min ordered food on his mobile phone, and while waiting for takeout, he had to start a game according to the usual practice. And this time everyone sat down in the laboratory, but Wang Xin asked, "By the way, senior sister, why haven't you played with that senior brother Hua recently?" โ
Qi Min wanted Hua Ruiming to calm down, but it was better not to tell Wang Xin about this kind of thing: "Oh, he's been busy lately." โ
Then she said: "Now we have to do animal experiments on this subject, and the group of researcher Zhou Xiaoshan of the Chinese Academy of Sciences has to come to help." I'm going to have a business trip for a meeting the day after tomorrow, maybe three or four days, and I might have to say hello to you when the time comes. โ
"What other group does our group cooperate with the Chinese Academy of Sciences?" Wang Xin said with some confusion, "I haven't heard of it." โ
And Chen Linyou raised a more valuable question: "What is the name of the person who came?" Do you want to live in the school temporarily? โ
"It's called Ke Li, and it should be a year older than the two of you. I sent his WeChat business card to the group. Qi Min said, "I have already discussed with the academic affairs and logistics people, and the institute will arrange for him to live in the vacant doctoral dormitory - by the way, Lin You, you male students should be in the same building, right?" โ
"Yes, the boys in the biology department live together." Chen Linyou nodded and said, "Then I'll take him there then." โ
In this way, it is considered to be the end of the main content. Qi Min said again: "I haven't been on a business trip for a few days, and the two of you have stayed in the laboratory. If there is any problem with Ke Li, you should also tell me first. โ
"That's for sure." Wang Xin and Chen Linyou immediately agreed.
Wang Xin lowered her voice again and asked, "Senior sister, the people in this cooperation group were specially sent by the teacher over there?" โ
"Hmm...... No, I took the initiative to ask someone for help. Qi Min explained, "Because we can't be separated by people here." โ
"That's good......," Wang Xin said with a sigh of relief, "I thought the cooperation team couldn't stand our progress." โ
"Why? We're not slow. Qi Min said, "I've run more than half of the full-size brain-like body here, and you are doing a negative control of EPS cells, and the progress is going well." โ
"Really? It always feels like we've been doing repetitive labor...... Wang Xin muttered quietly, "It's just to keep raising cells." โ
Qi Min looked at her and couldn't help but smile: "To be honest, biological research is originally a labor-intensive industry, and this can't be changed in the short term." Perhaps when AI technology develops to a certain extent, repetitive experiments can be done without human beings. โ
"Aren't we all unemployed?" Chen Linyou said, "It's the same as the automation of the assembly line crowding out ordinary workers? โ
"Well, maybe." QI MIN SHRUGGED, "WELCOME TO THE CAPTALIST SOCIETY."
โโ
On Sunday, Qi Min boarded the plane with other PIs who were on a business trip to attend an international natural science conference.
Because of the 12-hour time difference with the U.S., they took off on Sunday morning, 13 hours on the way, and landed at noon local time. After coming out of the airport, the young PIs were dragged to the hotel to check in, and then went to have what was actually supposed to be a "supper" lunch.
Because of the jet lag, everyone went back to their rooms to rest after eating. The next day was the official convening of the meeting, and there were two PIs who were going to make a report to prepare the report first, such as Qi Min, who just came to listen to the report and had a long insight, so he nested in his room and watched TV.
The TV is still very good. Mainly because Qi Min is now living in Yan Zhaolan's house, and there is no TV in the small bedroom where she lives. It's nice to be able to lie in bed and watch TV.
And the next day, the meeting went very well โ it was impossible to hear anything wrong even if you sat there and listened.
During the tea break, Qi Min also saw the boss of the lab next door when she was studying for her Ph.D., but she, a person with social phobia in public, had not communicated with the lady before, so she didn't go up to say hello.
However, this made Qi Min realize that she had to find a way to know if her boss when she was studying for a PhD would come, otherwise it would be too embarrassing if she bumped into her by chance and she didn't say she was coming back.
Qi Min hurriedly asked her classmate Yelena, who had not yet graduated, on Skype, and Yelena replied: "I definitely didn't go, the boss is in his office." โ
Then Yelena quickly followed: "You have fun, I am guaranteeing that you will not meet the boss in the next three days!" She was followed by a ":P" tongue sticking out and smiling face.
โะขะตะฑั_ะปัะฑะปั๏ผะะตะฝะฐ๏ผโ Qi Min replied happily.
"EEEW......" replied Yelena, "it's nothing in English, but it's a little disgusting in Russian." โ
"Don't worry, it's just as disgusting in Chinese." Qi Min replied.
"Do you have time to come back and play?" Yelena asked.
Qi Min thought about it, in fact, she was free, and this kind of business trip usually gave the last half a day to move freely. But she has to deal with Anton, so it's not convenient to go back to her Ph.D. lab.
"We're going to have a tight schedule, let's talk about it next time." Qi Min replied.
"Then I wish I can graduate next year!" Yelena typed optimistically.
She and Qi Min are in the same class, and it stands to reason that they should be able to graduate in the first half of this year. Yelena's situation was a little better than Qi Min before, Qi Min was rejected for the article, and she just had to make up a few data. However, because Yelena returned to St. Petersburg in winter, she was denied a visa when she wanted to return, so it was delayed for a long time. Unexpectedly, Qi Min graduated from other people's articles, and she didn't finish her career.
"You're going to graduate, Lena." Qi Min joked, "As long as you don't go back to Russia this year, don't be denied a visa again." โ
"Haha." Yelena replied, "When I get my degree and go back, I won't come back." This deliberately stuck a broken place for the degree of the Russians! โ
Qi Min couldn't help but want to laugh when he saw her say this. Now that the U.S. government's exclusion of immigrants and international students is a well-known thing, Qi Min did not dare to return to China during the Spring Festival, for fear of being stuck with a visa when he returned to school. And Yelena is so big that she has to go back for the New Year when she graduates, isn't this just in time to be targeted?
But the U.S. government just hates it. Qi Min and Yelena scolded the U.S. government back and forth a few more times, and then chatted with each other contentedly.
