Chapter 16: Fish Soup

"Wow......" is Du Gui's cry.

"You loser, you can't even serve the bowl well, and you dare to cry?" Zhou scolded viciously.

As soon as Dumay entered the courtyard, he heard voices from the kitchen. She put the herbs and fish in a bamboo basket under the eaves of the porch and walked briskly into the kitchen.

In the kitchen, as long as Zhou and Du Zhu were sitting, the other people's rice bowls were placed on the table in a mess, obviously having eaten and left. Du Gui's front placket was sprinkled with yellow liquid, Du Ying and Du Tao were helping her wipe it, and a bowl was rolling at Du Mei's feet.

"Sister, it wasn't me who fell, it was Brother Stake who stretched out his foot and tripped me." When Du Gui saw his eldest sister, it was like seeing a savior.

Du Zhu didn't quibble, his face was red and he only buried his head in the paste, Du Mei knew that he was beating the banner for the pot, and Du Zhu hated her.

"Just reload a bowl." Du Mei bent down to pick up the bowl and said calmly.

From the busy morning to the present, their sisters have not eaten water and rice, and this time they will make trouble, and it is their stomachs that suffer.

"Humph! When I was cooking, I couldn't find anyone, but when I was eating, I knew that I smelled it? "Today's dinner was cooked by Wei Shi Zhou Shi, and she just made a meal of green vegetables and corn paste, so she was annoyed.

"Has my mother eaten it?" Du Mei didn't want to quarrel, she was tired of the day, and she just wanted her mother and sisters to have a bite to eat.

"Hmm. Just delivered the meal, but my mother had no milk ~ water, and my brother cried when he was hungry. Du Ying said.

Du Tao turned around and went to the pot to fill the paste, but Du Zhu snatched the rice spoon.

"Brother Zhuanzi, you have eaten three bowls, and none of our sisters have eaten yet." Du Tao said aggrievedly.

"What, you're the eldest lady, you want to be invited to dinner? I don't have to eat, I deserve it. Also, Du Gui's bowl was spilled by her, and she didn't have to eat it today. Zhou said sadly.

After Du Mei went out, the three sisters had been taking care of their mother and younger brother in the house, and Zhou did not call them when he cooked. Du Jie, who was still in the third room, had dinner with his sister Du Xing, and passed by the door of the second room, complaining that today's meal was too unpalatable. The people in the second room only knew that dinner was open in the kitchen.

Du Mei looked at the pot and there was still some sticky leftovers in the pot, and the four sisters each made do with some food, padding their hunger.

Zhou triumphantly took the round belly of Du Zhu and went back to his house.

As is customary, three small ones, clean up the kitchen, Du Mei wash the sweet potatoes. By the way, she cleaned up the fish, leaving a little grass, and let Du Ying receive the other medicinal herbs in the house.

They closed the kitchen door, and Du Gui leaned on the window and watched out vigilantly. Du Tao burned the fire, Du Mei fried the fish slightly in the pot, poured boiling water, and suddenly the soup was milky white. She put some grass, and Du Tao changed the heat to simmer slowly.

Du Mei threw four and a half large sweet potatoes into the charcoal fire in the stove, and Du Tao buried them with hot ash.

After a while, the fresh smell of the fish wafted out, and Du Mei poured a little salt into the soup. In the stove, the sweet potatoes are almost cooked.

Dinner was made by Zhou, and she smelled the smell of fish in the house, but she did not suspect him. It was cold, and she didn't bother to look at it, she just thought it was the Fang family next door cooking.

In the house, because Xu's lack of milk ~ water for a long time, Du Ying was pacing around the house with her younger brother who was crying with hunger.

"Mother, come and drink fish soup." Du Mei entered the house with a chill.

"It's all useless." Xu had a scarf on his head, half-leaning on the bed, his eyes watery.

"The doctor said that the crucian carp soup is the most replenishing, and the mother drinks it, and the younger brother can eat it." Du Mei had already spread an apron in front of Xu Shi and handed her the soup.

The fish is stewed and broken, and the soup is as white as milk, with a rich fragrance. Xu knew that if she didn't give milk, the child who had fought for half her life would not survive sooner or later, so she drank most of the bowl of fish soup in one go.

"Mother, you can name your brother." Du Ying said. The four girls in the second room are all named after Xu.

"Is it good to call Juniper?" Xu Shi looked out the window, in this wax moon, there is probably only pine trees and snow Linghan. In her heart, she hopes that this child, who has lost the protection of his father, can live bravely in the frost and snow sword like Song.

"Komatsu? Komatsu! Du Ying teased her younger brother in her arms.

"Mother, I'm also a sister." Du Gui was even happier, she was changing her baby teeth, and when she smiled, she was missing her front teeth and leaking air.

"That's a nice name." Du Taomei smiled.

"Mother, the village will count your name. Other people's families are called big girls, Zhaodi. Du Mei laughed too.

Xu Shi looked at the happy looks of the four girls, and there was a smile on his face, but the worry in his heart was not alleviated at all.

"Mother, you drink all the soup, it's cold and fishy. Tomorrow I'll look for it at the mouth of the fish. Du Mei handed Xu a piece of roasted sweet potato.

"Be careful when you go to the mouth of the fish, your aunt Fang's twig is there." Xu Shi didn't take the sweet potato, she looked at Du Mei, her eyes were full of reluctance and sadness, her daughter was only 13 years old.

"It's okay, mother. Uncle Zhong and Brother Shu were cutting reeds and cattails on the river beach. Du Mei took the empty bowl and patted Xu's hand.

Juniper fell asleep in the crook of Du Ying's arms.

The four girls were afraid and tired for a day, and after washing, they fell asleep with their pillows on their heads.

But the night is still long.
