Chapter 28: Dead Town

The fog had crossed the hills and spread everywhere.

The night was still deep, and the sun did not seem to have any intention of coming out of the ground to take duty, but the moon was firmly embraced by the thick fog, and only a little white and miserable light shimmered.

This road, called "Yin-Yang Road", is actually not flat, and there are some small potholes everywhere, and I can imagine the shaking and undulating appearance of the speeding tool truck driving on it.

However, the biggest feature here is silence.

There was a special silence, a deathly silence.

On this dead road, I walked and walked, but I didn't know when it would end. In the thick fog, I could only see about 10 meters away, and I couldn't make out my own direction.

However, I persevered to the end. came to the end of this "yin and yang road".

Ahead, houses have appeared, neatly lined up with houses.

I was finally relieved to see that there was a house.

Where there is a house, there must be people, and I can finally stop being alone with a lonely shadow. Perhaps, I can ask someone here what kind of place is this? Can you just rest here tonight and continue on your road tomorrow?

However, when I walked into this complex, I was still amazed by what I saw.

The streets were deserted and there was not a single vehicle.

Although it was late at night, this place that seemed to be a small town was too quiet, right? What's the matter, there's always one or two big people wandering around the streets, even if it's just one or two stray dogs?

Actually, I'm scared of dogs, but I'd like to see a few dogs here.

But there was nothing here, and the silence was terrifying.

Here, it's a small town. On both sides of the street, there are many houses standing side by side, but the houses here are not high, that is, they look like two or three floors, which is a characteristic of a small town.

The streets of the town are quite clean and tidy, and there is no garbage at all, which seems a bit abnormal?

Thick fog has also spread to this town. Although there was still miserable moonlight in the sky, if I wanted to see farther away, I had to turn on the flashlight. In the mist, the houses, like mirages, give a sense of oppression that is both mysterious and unsettling. I don't know why, but I always feel like they're going to wake up and pounce on me at any moment! At this moment, they were staring coldly down at me, the stranger who had suddenly broken into this town as quiet as death.

This town, it's so peaceful, no, it's almost like it's dead silence.

The only thing I could hear walking through the empty streets was the sound of my own footsteps and breathing. My breathing was getting shorter and shorter, probably because the fog was getting thicker.

After walking for a while, I saw a newspaper bar on the side of the road. However, the glass on the outside of the newspaper bar was still broken, and the newspapers inside had turned yellow, and some of the newspapers had even been torn off, like ears of wheat hanging down, and they were half drooping.

I stopped and looked at the newspaper. But the strange thing is that this is not actually a newspaper, and it does not report any news, entertainment stars, sports games, etc., but something similar to a missing person notice. For example, look for elderly people with dementia, relatives who have lost contact, and pet dogs that have been lost.

Among them, there is a notice looking for the missing schoolgirl, but the little girl has no name and no photo of her. However, there is no name or photo, so how can I find it?

However, I thought about it, maybe it's because this town is so small, and if a little girl is really lost, it should be easy to be found. In this kind of place, everyone knows each other well, and it is difficult for anyone to keep their secrets.

Suddenly, in an inconspicuous corner of the newspaper column, I found a map.

"Dead Town"?

When I saw these three words at the top of the map, I was stunned.

Could it be that the name of this town is called "Dead Silence"?

This isn't the first time I've been so shocked by a place name. The previous "ghost hospital" and "Yin Yang Road" were already beyond my expectations, and now, this quiet town is also called such a terrible name?

What the hell is going on here? Could it be that the people here like to name their towns with such unlucky words?

I looked at it again, and yes, this was the map of Dead Town. It's just that a corner of this map is missing.

Hey, why do I think this map seems to have been seen somewhere before?

Suddenly, it occurred to me that in your ranger's cabin, I had found a drawing of the little girl, Mary.

On the back of that map, there is a fragment of a map!

So I took out the fragment of the map that I had hidden on my body and compared it with the missing map in the newspaper column.

Sure enough, the fragment was part of the map of the dead town! The Ghost Hospital and the Yinyang Road are also within the map of Dead Town, but they are located in the southwest corner of the town, which should still be part of the outskirts of the town.

This map of Dead Silence is so important to me!

But this map is in the newspaper column, how do I get it?

It didn't bother me, so I grabbed the flashlight, turned it upside down, and slammed it at the shattered, but not completely fallen glass.

With a single knock, the glass fell with a crisp sound. In the silence of the night, this voice is particularly harsh.

I turned my head and looked around nervously.

After the sound, there was still silence, deathly silence. In the thick fog, nothing unusual happened.

Since no one has found out, then you're welcome. So, I knocked the glass off twice more, and reached out and tore the map out of the newspaper bar. I put together the fragment of the map that I had hidden, and sure enough, it matched perfectly.

On the map, I found the location of Yinyang Road, and followed its direction until I found the junction that led to the town. That's right, this is it, and that's where I am now!

According to the directions on the map, it is not far ahead of this road, on the right side of the road, there is the police station.

Although I vandalized public property and stole the map just now, I don't think the police will take care of these trivial things. At most, it will make me lose a little money.

But where do I have money now?

I was going to go to the police station and tell them all about what had happened to me in the ghost hospital and in the cabin. Maybe they don't know what's going on there, right? Perhaps, they will tell me what to do next?

However, it is also possible that they will not believe me, especially if it is the man in black who attacked me from behind.

By the way, what about the wanted man? What is that wanted criminal who rushed to the ghost hospital? The police will always know about this, right?

But why didn't I find the wanted notice in the bulletin in the newspaper column? It stands to reason that if there had ever been a wanted criminal here, the police should have issued this notice to warn the townspeople?

Anyway, I'd better go to the police station first, and at this time, maybe there will be police officers on night duty there.

I got the map and hid it on my body. Now, I've got one more important item – a map.

I continued along the road, and sure enough, I didn't go far before I came to the door of the police station.

This police station is not large, and it is also shrouded in fog. However, I can still see the unique architectural style of the police station, as well as the blue and white logo and the word "POLICE".

However, as soon as I walked to the door of the police station, I hesitated.

Should I go in or not? Should I tell the police everything I saw and heard?

What if they don't believe what I'm saying?

It's very likely, because I have encountered those unbelievable and strange things, and I am afraid that no one would believe them if they heard it.

That strange doctor in the hospital who devoured corpses, that mysterious man in black who couldn't see but always attacked me from behind, like a ghost? Does this sound like a character from a horror movie? If the police heard all this I said, they wouldn't laugh at me? If they know that I escaped from the ghost hospital, will they suspect that I am a mentally ill person who escaped from there, and send me back to that hospital?

I don't want to go back to that horrible hospital! That invisible ghost, maybe it's still wandering there? And, that terrible ghoul! And, that wanted man!

No, I don't want to go back there! Let me go!

In front of the steps at the entrance of the police station, I put back my raised foot.

I'd better get out of here, and don't get myself in trouble!

But just as I was about to leave the police station, suddenly, another image appeared in my mind.

In that cabin, Mary, the little girl with her head bowed and playing with her rag doll, was kneeling on the floor. Her blonde hair covered her face, and it was impossible to see what she looked like. She seemed to be humming something, but I couldn't make out what the tune was.

Suddenly, this little Mary raised her head.

She turned into a doll, a doll as tall as a person, looking at me with those frighteningly big eyes!

Suddenly, the corners of her mouth cracked, and from her lips, blood was left behind!

"Mary, we're always going to be together!" The doll read word by word.

The sound is getting louder and louder, and my eardrums are about to burst!

I covered my ears and closed my eyes.

The image was gone, and so was the voice.

When I opened my eyes, I was still standing in the doorway of the police station. At the top of the steps, the door of the police station was closed, like a big closed mouth, but it could swallow me at any moment!

I was startled and withdrew my hand back into my trouser pocket.

In my trouser pocket, I felt something cold······
