Chapter 71: The World Beneath the Rat Hole

I heard a sighing voice, not loud, but in the silence of the night, in the empty security room, it was still very frightening.

I thought it was the security guard who came back, and if he came back at this time, then I really wouldn't have anywhere to escape.

At that moment, suddenly, in my field of vision, something popped up.

I was startled, but when I looked closely, it turned out that it was only a mouse that made the sound just now.

Am I scared by rats? Could it be that I was really frightened, and my guts were smaller than that of a mouse?

It made me feel a little ashamed, as if only a woman could be so frightened. So, I emboldened myself and stared at the mouse, trying to scare it away with my eyes.

However, the rat, which had just emerged from a small hole in the wall, did not seem to be afraid of people. Not only that, but it gave me a defiant look and squeaked.

Why, you rat is not afraid of people? Isn't it true that you've never met anyone before, that's why you're so bold?

I was so excited that I held my breath to see what this guy was going to do next.

However, it may have been that there was not even a grain to eat in the house, and the rat looked around a few times, then wagked his tail and squeaked twice, and then went back into the hole.

The rat ran away, but I was a little disappointed.

I don't know why, but I don't feel as comfortable as the rat in this hole, and it has a nest anyway; Anyway, it won't be like me, and it's always in fear.

However, I suddenly became a little interested in that rat hole.

Strange, this security room is obviously a separate house, and there are no buildings next to each other, and this rat hole seems to lead to the outside, but, looking at the rat hole, it is a black patch, and it seems that there should be a larger space inside? Where does this rat hole lead?

I crouched down, turned on my flashlight, and shone into the rat hole. Sure enough, the hole was so deep that it couldn't be illuminated at all. This shows that the rat hole is like a tunnel, very deep and large.

Tunnel? That's the word that pops into my head?

But if there's a tunnel down there, where does the other end of the tunnel lead?

However, I quickly dismissed this idea. It's just a rat hole, and rats don't need to dig that big tunnel.

However, I am not giving up yet. So, I picked up the back end of the flashlight and smashed the rat hole open. I smashed a big hole in the rat's hole, just enough to put the flashlight inside.

So, I put my flashlight into the hole again. I fell to the ground, the hand holding the flashlight, reaching all the way to the bottom. However, the flashlight couldn't touch it.

There seemed to be a large space underneath the hole.

Could it be that under this hole is where the sewer is?

In towns, the space under the sewers is very large. Normally, I wouldn't be interested in it, but today, I'm wondering: Is it really possible to get to the sewers from here?

But at this moment, suddenly, my hand was bitten by something.

I screamed, instinctively withdrawing my hand, but the flashlight I was holding in my hand fell down.

Flashlight, my flashlight! If I lose this thing, how can I continue my adventure in the future?

However, the strange thing is that after the flashlight fell, it did not make a sound. This shows that the bottom of the cave is really deep, so deep that you can't hear the sound of landing.

I took my hand back, and when I looked, there was a visible bite mark on the back of my right hand. Obviously, this was the "gift" that the mouse gave me.

Damn rats! It's okay if you bite me, and you made me lose a flashlight!

I cursed the mouse, but what was the use of just swearing?

I remembered the lighter I had just gotten, so I beat it up and cautiously reached into the hole again. This time, I learned to be obedient and grabbed this lighter to death, even if the rat came to bite my hand again, I would never let go!

However, the lighter was put in for a while before it was blown out.

Is there still wind down there? Well, that's even more proof of what I just guessed. This rat hole could really lead to another place, and most likely, the sewer pipe of this town is underneath.

However, I didn't rush to dig the hole open, because I was afraid that if I did it too obviously, I would be seen by the security guards who came back. Besides, I'm not sure if there's going to be a sewer pipe down there, and once the hole is dug open and it goes down again, it's a big problem whether I can go back and forth this time.

So, I walked out of the security room and went outside the house first, to the location of the rat hole. However, there were only vines and grass beside this wall. Pushing through the grass, I didn't notice an exposed exit, and the walls were intact. This shows that the rat hole is indeed not out of the wall, but directly into the ground.

In the grass, I found a shovel that had been discarded there, and although it was rusty, it did not affect its basic function.

Well, that's you! I picked up the shovel and went back to the security room.

This time, I didn't hesitate any longer.

It looks like the security guards here won't be coming back. Perhaps, there would have been no security guards here for a long time, otherwise, why didn't there even have the necessary food and boiling water for the security guards to work the night shift in this house? That rat must have not seen a big living person for a long time, so it swaggered freely and came and went, even I was not afraid.

However, if there is no security guard here, will there still be people living in this apartment building?

Maybe this apartment building is like the ghost hospital, just an empty dead house?

But now that I'm here, even if I can't find Mary in this building, I'll go in and find out.

Well, since there is no one to manage here, then I don't care, destroy it!

So, I started the destruction of the security room. I used the shovel to smash the hole of the rat hole.

Soon, the rat hole was dug into a large pit.

I looked down at the crater, but I gasped.

Underneath this pit, bottomless, black rumbling, as if it was the scene after the ground had collapsed. I lit up the lighter and shone it down, and soon I found a sewer pipe that I could climb down the drain pipe all the way down.

So, I climbed down the drain pipe slowly.

Suddenly, the rat reappeared, just below the sewer pipe, and was crawling up the pipe.

This time, though, I wasn't scared and gave it a warning sound.

Although the rat was crawling up and down the sewer, I was not disturbed by it, and it probably knew how good I was, so it didn't bite my hand again.

I clutched the sewer pipe with one hand for fear of falling down, and in the other, I was holding the lighter.

But at that moment, a gust of wind blew, the lighter went out again, and I fell into darkness again.

I had to stuff the lighter into my pocket, then clasp my hands on the sewer pipe, and slide it down little by little in the darkness.

The sewer pipe was long, it seemed bottomless, and I didn't know when I would step on the ground below.

Eventually, though, I stepped on the ground.

I let out a sigh of relief when both of my feet landed on the ground. The surroundings were still pitch black.

I lit the lighter again, and by the light of the fire I could finally see clearly. Here, as expected, it is a large area, surrounded by water pipes, which is the sewer network of this town. I also heard the sound of water, ticking, ticking, what seemed to be dripping from a pipe.

Hearing this ticking sound, I felt very uncomfortable.

The image that came to my mind was that of a woman who appeared to be Mary, tied to a bed, with a catheter in her arm, and blood flowing down the catheter, drop by drop, into a bucket. Tick, tick, that's the sound of blood flowing.

I shuddered at the thought of this.

I'd better go find Mary as soon as possible, for the longer it drags on, the less likely I am to see her.

But before I can do that, I have to do one thing, and that's to find my flashlight. I can't keep holding a lighter for lighting like this, isn't that a thing?

So, I looked around again, but I couldn't find the flashlight.

Hell, could it be that this flashlight fell down, did it fall into some mud puddle?

Not to mention, there are a few puddles down there, but there's no way I'm going to get my flashlight in the dirty, smelly puddle.

However, when the flashlight falls, the light is always on. By the way, I'll just follow the light to find it, where there is light, there should be my flashlight, right?

But it's pitch black down here, and there's any light.

At the end, I was in complete despair. It seems that when the flashlight fell, it must have been damaged, so the light was no longer on. Even if I do, I'm afraid it won't be able to be used anymore.

I had to give up the plan to retrieve the flashlight, and then I had to rely on the lighter for lighting, which was neither convenient nor safe. But, fortunately, I took it at the time, otherwise, where would I be able to see the way in this pitch black?

I had to hold the lighter and slowly fumble my way forward.

Here, it's really big, like an underground labyrinth.

Still, I found a little bit of light. There, it should be the exit, right?

So, I walked in the direction of the light. This road seems to be an uphill road, getting higher and higher, but the road is getting harder and harder.

After walking for a while, suddenly, I stopped.

Right in front of me, there was something lying across it, a big black strip.

What's that?

I stepped forward and took a picture of the lighter, so frightened that I almost threw it away.

The thing lying on the ground turned out to be a corpse!

The corpse fell to the ground on its side, lying on its stomach and unable to see his face clearly. However, the dress on his body was still recognized by me.

It was a security guard's blue uniform······
