[Explanation]: Cai: Wencai, talent. Describe people with high knowledge and good literary talents.

【Idiom Story】:

Cao Zhi, whose name is Zijian, was once named King Chen, and was nicknamed Chen Si after his death, so he was also called King Chen Si. He was the third son of Cao Cao, Emperor Wu of Wei, and the brother of Cao Pi, Emperor Wen of Wei.

Cao Cao, Cao Pi, Cao Zhi, father and son, are all writers, and they have formed a unique style in creation. The so-called "Jian'an literature" that appeared in the Jian'an era at the end of the Han Dynasty was mainly represented by Cao's father and son. And Cao Zhi's literary talent seems to be more prominent.

Cao Zhi has been very smart since he was a child, with quick thinking and rich words, and Cao Cao likes him very much. When Cao Cao was alive, his life was very stable and well-traveled, and the articles and poems he wrote at that time were more gorgeous; But when Cao Cao died at the age of 29 and his brother Cao Pi ascended the throne, he was constantly attacked; After his nephew Cao Rui (Emperor Wei Ming) ascended the throne, he was hit even harder. Because he was politically persecuted, mentally depressed, and lived a rather depressed life, the poems he wrote during this period could expose the darkness and contradictions within the ruling class, express his resentment against the rulers and his desire for freedom, and also generate a certain degree of sympathy for the working people. Therefore, Cao Zhi's later creations are better than those of the earlier period in terms of practical significance.

Although Cao Zhi's creations, including poems and essays, have not left much, the writers of the old days have a high opinion of him. For example, Zhong Rong, a poetry critic of the Liang Dynasty in the Southern Dynasty, wrote in his "Poems": Cao Zhi's poems are "extremely high-spirited, colorful words, love and elegance, and literary quality".

Xie Lingyun of the Southern Song Dynasty was a famous poet and writer in China during the Northern and Southern Dynasties, although he seemed not very satisfied with Cao Zhi's early works, saying that it was "but the beauty of the world, not as good as the world," but in general, he still admired Cao Zhi very much, please see what kind of comments he gave Cao Zhi:

"There is only one stone in the world, and Zijian has eight buckets!" (One stone equals ten buckets) - that's an interesting comment.

praised the author's high knowledge and good literary talent, and later it was called "Cai Zhan Badou", "Eight Dou Cai", referred to as "Badoucai". The Tang Dynasty poet Li Shangyin has the sentence "exhaust the eight talents of King Chen". Some people also combine the two idioms of "Eight Buckets of Talent" and "Seven Steps of Talent" and call them "Seven Steps and Eight Buckets" to describe the agility and mastery of poetry.
