【Idiom Story】:

The idiom of "big words" comes from "Han Changli's Complete Works: Sacrifice to Liuzi Houwen", referring to "New Tang Dynasty Book: Liu Zongyuan Biography".

Liu Zongyuan, a famous writer in the Tang Dynasty, has thick characters. Liu Zongyuan studied hard and diligently since he was a child, and after the age of 10, his poems were praised by people. In 793 AD, at the age of 21, Liu Zongyuan was admitted to the Jinshi with his talent. At the age of 26, he served as the orthography of Jixiandian Academy, edited and sorted out books for the Tang Dynasty, and had the opportunity to read many books. He advocated the reform of the government and actively participated in the activities of Wang Shuwen's reform group. After the failure of the reform, he was demoted to Sima of Yongzhou (now Lingling County, Hunan Province), and after 10 years, he was demoted to Liuzhou (now Liuzhou City, Guangxi). In 819 A.D., he died of illness in Liuzhou at the age of 47.

Yanagi's prose is rich and colorful. His short fables are concise, sharp and subtle. His landscape travelogues are vivid and colorful. His arguments were meticulous and well-organized. His poetic style is clear and sparse, and his hard work is fine. In the second year after his death, that is, in 820 AD, the famous literary scholar Han Yu of the Tang Dynasty wrote the article "Sacrifice to Liuzi Houwen", in which he used these two sentences to praise Liu Zongyuan's literary talent: "Jade Pei Qiongju, big words." It means that the writing is beautiful, and the words are as beautiful as the crystal and pure jade.

"Dafang words" was originally used to praise Liu Zongyuan for writing a large number of beautiful words, with praise and meaning. Now the meaning and color of this idiom have changed, and it is often used to satirize people and make arguments, with a derogatory connotation.
