Chapter 5: Osborne
By the time Aegis's first reinforcements arrived at the attacked base, there was nothing left in the base to be rescued.
The square was filled with flames, and the wreckage of Kun fighters and heavy chariots was everywhere, scorched black by the relentless flames, and electric sparks rained down in every passage of the facility.
Nick Fury stood on the high platform of the hall full of disarray, his face grim. Agents hurried through the halls, searching for any clues left behind by the attackers.
Deputy Commissioner Maria Hill walked up the metal escalator to the high platform. Fury turned around: "Got a clue?" ”
"Yes." Deputy Director Hill nodded, handing over a tablet with a gray Aegis badge painted on the screen, "I don't think the other party even thought about hiding. Our surveillance cameras captured the whole thing. ”
Fury took the tablet. The screen was unlocked, and a monitoring screen that was not clear was played. In the picture, they could vaguely see a figure in black armor descending from the sky, easily suppressing all the resistance of Aegis in this base with the strength of one person.
Fury's one-eyed frowned.
"Is it just me looking like it, or is this guy ......?"
"The person who appeared in the Cosmic Cube Research Institute? Yes, I think so too, sir. Hill said.
Fury frowned and pondered for a long time.
"Create a separate file for this guy, with the highest danger level." Fury ordered.
"Yes, sir." Hill hesitated for a moment and asked, "Need to ask Stark's opinion?" ”
It makes sense for her to think so, and as far as the information is known, Tony Stark is rightfully the first person in the world in the field of individual armor technology.
"No, not yet." Fury shook his head, "Not now. ”
***
Saturday, evening.
Crowds of people crowded the perimeter of the stadium surrounded by colorful lights, with reporters from the city's major media outlets accounting for the majority. It seems that the mayor's public relations team has done a good job, and this charity gala with the theme of Mr. Mayor's own broad mind has indeed received the attention it deserves.
As Michael Paso emerges from the supercar painted dark blue, the flash lights come almost in unison. They shouted the young president's name enthusiastically, as if the hardest working person could get the best shot.
It's no wonder they're so enthusiastic, and the young president who has risen to prominence in just two years is truly a striking new star. His forward-thinking ideas in many fields of science and technology have led Paso Technology to develop from a nascent to the scale it is today in two years, which can really be described as a "miracle".
A few years ago, Stark Industries, the largest arms supplier in the United States, announced its withdrawal from arms manufacturing (in the same year Tony Stark, the owner of Stark Group, declared himself Iron Man). While that incident caused an uproar across the country, it also led to a fundamental change in the pattern of interests.
You must know that Stark Industries' arms trade has already formed an intricate chain of interests before this, and Stark's announcement of withdrawal means that the already mature pattern will be reshuffled. A large number of manufacturers who rely on their companies to survive will need to find another way out, and the military will need to rebid for a large number of orders that were originally provided to Stark Enterprises every year.
A war without gunpowder began quickly, and for a long time the country's military industry was full of gunpowder.
Originally, the most promising companies were Hammer Technology and Osborne Industries, and almost everyone thought that one of the two would win the throne of Stark Industries, and then become the arms giant that occupies the pinnacle of the industry. The battle gradually developed into a protracted war, and the two sides fought openly and secretly for two or three years, during which no third party even thought of intervening in the war between the two giants, because it was clearly no chance of winning.
But what everyone never expected was that Paso Technology, a small company that had just been born, had no name and no background, would rush into this battle at this most critical juncture.
This new little competitor didn't even attract the attention of the big two, because he really couldn't find a reason to face such an inconspicuous enemy. To them, El Paso was like an ant at the feet of a giant, and it was a matter of effort.
But the next series of achievements of this little ant made everyone stunned. First, they snatched a large order from the Ministry of Defense for Hammer Technology with an electromagnetic rifle that originally existed only in the concept, and then launched a portable special jetpack, which perfectly suppressed the glide pedal that Osborne Technology was developing and took away the benefits that originally belonged to Osborne Industries.
Then, without waiting for the two companies to calm down, Paso Technology immediately launched the laser rifle, which was identified by experts as an energy weapon that was "beginning to take shape". Although this technology is not yet mature, it means an impact on the entire weapons industry system, and perhaps even a sign of a comprehensive advance in the world's weapons technology.
Before that, the whole world knew that Iron Man was the only one who openly mastered energy weapon technology.
The Department of Defense has now placed a large-scale order for the laser rifle from Paso Technologies, and it is clear that the intention is to cooperate for a long time. Although the pattern has not yet been determined, the emergence of Paso Technology has clearly occupied an advantage in this battle for long-term interests.
By the time everyone finally starts to take the whole new side of the player seriously, it's too late. This fledgling company has been incredibly easy to defuse pressure from all walks of life – both overtly and discerningly.
It's a pity that such a young man with a halo is a little low-key, not the type who likes to show his head. Aside from his unbelievable public achievements, the public knows very little about him, so it's no wonder that journalists are showing such enthusiasm for him.
The venue was full of people. Passing through the door, Michael had just taken two or three steps before he had to stop and start chatting with some celebrities he didn't actually know. Their topics range from business trade coverage to the latest revue to the cover girl of this issue of fashion magazine. With a warm smile on his face, Michael looks as if he's interested in any topic.
"Look who's coming."
Michael turned his head and saw a middle-aged man in a straight suit and slicky hair walking in his direction through the crowd. He had a smile on his face, but the blind man could also see the sharpness hidden under that smile.
That was Norman Osborne, the owner of the Osborne Group. In other words, it's one of Michael's biggest contenders right now. The moment the eyes of the two sides met, it was as if an invisible spark had struck in the air, and the smell of gunpowder diffused.
Norman Osborne, the supervillain in the "Spider-Man" series, in the original work, due to the effect of some kind of enhanced serum, split personality, put on a Halloween clown-like uniform, stepped on a glider and flew around all day to make some explosions, calling himself a "Green Goblin".
There is no scene in the MCU movie series so far. But it doesn't matter if Osborne does turn black into the Green Goblin, Michael judges that the Green Goblin is just a "Halloween clown with outdated skateboard equipment" and is not a threat.
Michael greeted politely and quietly: "Mr. Osborne." ”
Norman Osborne took two martinis from the waiter and handed one of them to Michael. Osborne shook his glass and touched Michael's cup crisply.
"Allow me to toast New York's youngest genius." He drank half of his martini and let out a cloudy breath, "It's rare to see the great Michael Paso have time for this kind of social event." I thought genius time was as precious as gold. Shouldn't you be in the lab...... Retrofitting a jet propulsion or something? ”
Osborne apparently remains unhappy about Paso Tech's order for a backpack jet propulsion. The Ministry of Defense had already decided to order Osborne Tech's gliding pedals, and they had even invested in mass production. However, Paso Technology just stepped in at this critical moment and launched a jet propulsion that is superior in performance, cost and convenience, and snatched this batch of orders.
Therefore, it should not be an exaggeration to say that the relationship between the two sides is an enemy at the moment.
Michael smiled disappreciatively, "No, Mr. Osborne. Thank you for your concern, but the function of the thruster has been basically perfected, and there is no need to improve it for the time being. Recently, however, we are trying to develop laser-guided mini-missiles and try to assemble a variety of different warheads. At the moment, the project is in the testing stage, and I am sure that the army will definitely be interested in this. ”
Norman Osborne's face darkened again — he was talking about one of Osborne's ongoing projects, which were testing a miniature laser-guided missile on a glider in the hope of regaining the interest of the military bigwigs.
The applause sounded like a wave from all around, and the people in the hall stopped chatting and consciously moved out of the way. Mr. Mayor walked up to the stage with the guests welcome. He waved his hand to express his gratitude to all the guests and began his old-fashioned motivational speech.
So Osborne stopped talking. But throughout the night, he kept throwing a gloomy gaze at a young man in the hall, consciously or unconsciously, as if he was going to give him a fatal blow with that sharp look.
But he also noticed one thing.
After all night, from beginning to end, the other party didn't look at him again.
