Chapter 209: Awakened Darkness
London, United Kingdom.
After Jane Foster repeated the name of the dish "sea bass" ten times over the menu, her first date finally politely and helplessly proposed the cancellation of the date. Jane said goodbye to the gentleman apologetically, but it wasn't until she got into the car that she suddenly realized that she didn't even remember the man's name.
It seemed like a gentleman to think about it, but it wasn't the first time in all these years. She's tried dating a lot of times with boyfriends from all walks of life and background, but she's only dated three times so far. All in all, none of these attempts were very successful, and in all fairness, none of them seemed to be the man's problem. Most of them were very well-behaved and gentlemanly, and a few of them were indeed the type to her taste, but the end result was always not smooth.
It's her problem, she knows, because she always acts absent-minded. She couldn't put much energy into it, and she couldn't even start a new relationship.
It's as if her life, her time, has been stopped...... Since the New Mexico thing.
It's a cliché story. The god, who has lost his divine powers, is relegated to the mortal world and meets a beautiful human female physicist. The two fell in love at first sight and hit it off, so a series of stories that had to be told between gods and mortals took place...... It's like those old-fashioned myths and legends.
But things come and go faster, like a thunderstorm on a summer night. They had only been together for a few days, and the god left as if he had some "world-saving" or something. He left nothing but a baseless assurance.
He hasn't been heard from since.
Later, Jane also saw him on the TV news once, seeing him in New York and other superheroes known as "The Avengers" fighting aliens. So he returned to Earth, but he didn't follow his promise, he didn't come to see her.
So Jane had to accept this fact. Maybe after all, she wasn't that important, maybe it was just her wishful thinking all along. But come to think of it, he's a god, and she's just a mortal. Those few days in New Mexico meant a lot to her, but to him they might have been just a moment in his long millennia life that could be ignored.
But even if you say so, but after all...... Still a little regretful, right?
And now, things seem to have taken a turn again.
It was in the past two days that several 10-year-olds in London reported the discovery of an "extremely rare" physical phenomenon in an abandoned building. Jane made a special trip to the scene with her interns — and the interns' interns — to investigate.
And it was exactly as the children described. First they discovered a strange gravitational field, and then an anomalous phase distortion that appeared to be the roof and ground floor of the building being connected in some unknown form. For example, cans that are thrown from the upper floors will suddenly disappear before touching the ground floor, and then "pop" on the roof like a teleportation, repeating the process of free fall again.
If this phenomenon was merely "amazing", then the anomalous readings that popped up from the phase meter were like a thunderbolt that pierced the sky, hitting Jane's heart for a long time.
That's the same reading that the prince from Asgard showed when he fell from the sky in New Mexico.
Jane Foster herself couldn't say why, but it did make her feel like she had been reborn. She felt as if every cell in her body had woken up from years of slumber, and the adrenaline rush was pumping her nerves. She rekindled her momentum and seemed to have found her way forward after a long absence.
But what she didn't expect was that her active exploration brought her a whole new kind of trouble.
Jane had a phaser in her hand, and she followed the direction of the readings getting stronger, following the hallway that was littered with fallen leaves. It was then that the wind rolled up, accompanied by an astonishing gravitational pull, and it felt like countless transparent silk threads shot out from the end of this narrow corridor, firmly binding her hands and feet, and pulling her into some invisible vortex without saying a word.
She felt like she had crashed into some invisible barrier, like she had fallen into a layer of cold, biting water. When she came back to her senses, she was already standing on the edge of a dark cliff, and the wind was howling in her ears, and the sound of the wind sounded like the howl of a monster in the distance.
She turned her head and almost dropped her jaw.
The hallway is gone, along with the entire building. She found herself standing on a dark rock, barren on all sides, with two heavy black boulders standing beside her. The two boulders were stacked on top of each other, leaving only a gap that barely fit into one hand.
She vaguely seemed to see something in the slit. Something dark red, churning, something that seemed to be moving.
She reached out and touched the black boulder at the bottom.
As if sensing something, the dark red mass suddenly surged like an arrow. It wrapped its arms around Jane's right hand like a viper locking onto its prey, and emerged from the crack like madness. Jane hurriedly withdrew her hand in panic, but it seemed to be too late. The mass had burrowed under her skin from her palms and arms, and had vanished without a trace.
The boulder above fell with a "boom", and the crack in the stone disappeared.
Jane was stunned, and the intense feeling of dizziness slammed into her brain before she could think about it. Her mind began to become hazy, and her consciousness suddenly blurred. She slumped and collapsed on the cold rock, and soon fell into a deep sleep.

Jane Foster disappeared from the corridor for less than a quarter of an hour when a spark burst out of thin air at the end of the corridor. The firelight cuts out an arc, creating a circular incision in the space. The blue and black armor stepped out of the spell portal on the fallen leaves, and the V-shaped eyepiece was rippling with light blue fluorescence.
"Give me visual enhancements, activate phase data analysis and magic scanning." Michael said.
Shirley answered, and immediately did as she was told, and in less than a minute, a large amount of data was fed back.
"The phase fluctuates so much that the end of the channel may be connected to different spaces. Also, we may not be the first to find out, sir. ”
Shirley used conspicuous red lines to identify the footprints from the fallen leaves on the ground, and combined with a number of data to restore the height and body shape of the owner of the footprints.
"It looks like there's a lady who went across the street before we got here."
