Chapter 376: Be a Bodyguard
Things were nothing like Captain Rodgers expected.
A bodyguard mission, this is the first mission that Tony has entrusted to him after taking the position of S.H.I.E.L.D. chief. Cody Scripps, a bad-tempered, extremely difficult old man, the leader of a small country, happened to be visiting this week.
But there is information that there seems to be an organization in the country that has targeted this old man. The killer's employer and his purpose are unclear, but it can only be speculated that the death of another country's leader in the United States may have caused an international dispute.
But the stubborn and odd-tempered old man, after being notified, did not seem to take the death threat to heart at all. He rejected all offers of enhanced security for him, arguing that he could not trust American agents, and that he felt that one of them might be disguised as a killer who was lurking around him to take his life.
But he named Captain America. He said that if there was anyone in the whole country who could be trusted by him, it would be Captain America. Only when talking about the captain did the old man show considerable respect, and he also directly expressed his desire to see the captain on this trip.
This was the beginning of the mission, and Captain America made an exception to accompany the old man during his visit and was responsible for keeping him safe.
Of course, Aegis's side didn't stop there. Although Scripps unceremoniously declined their help, Aeg.I.E.L.D. had some agents covertly escorted them, but their actions were far less convenient than the captain's.
The intelligence turned out to be good, and the attack took place on the first day. The first attack occurred while Scripps' convoy was moving, and a rocket blew off the open vehicles at the front of the queue, cutting the convoy to an instant.
This was followed by a group of black-clad ninjas descending from the sky, armed with long knives, and quickly engaged in a scuffle with Scripps' security team. Captain America played a crucial role in this encounter, single-handedly defeating almost half of the ninjas, and in time to almost miraculously crash a rocket with a vibranium shield that would have been flying towards Scripps.
The outcome of the battle was ultimately thrilling. However, the defeated ninjas all committed suicide by swallowing poison on the spot, and their identities were also not recorded in the intelligence system, and no clues were found on their bodies to prove their identities.
I don't know if it was because of my big nerves or some other reason, Scripps didn't seem to care about his ambush at all, but praised Captain America for his excellent performance that day. He stubbornly rejected suggestions to change his itinerary, insisting that nothing would threaten him as long as the captain was around.
Then, as expected, the next day the attack happened again. This time, the captain took down seven ninjas with one enemy and seven enemies, and once again protected the safety of the old man.
After two days of peace, and with one last day left, the mission was completed.
The old man seemed to be in a better mood that night, and he took the captain into his room to talk about the war-time - though he had not personally experienced war himself, as he was old.
And it was on this last day that the situation worsened.
Aegis's investigation into these death-defying ninjas is still zero, and all of them have no identity like real ghosts, and they don't have any clue about their origins, let alone their employers. To be on the safe side, under the repeated persuasion of Captain Rogers, the stubborn old man finally reluctantly accepted the change of itinerary.
The changes in this itinerary were completely secret, and only the members of the Personal Guard and Captain America, who were absolutely trusted by Scripps, knew the detailed arrangements, and even Aegis was not informed in advance. If they were to be ambushed again, they would have to face the dire possibility that Scripps' cronies were lurking enemy spies.
And that's exactly what happened.
When the convoy reached a certain intersection, the attack really came again. Rockets exploded on the road and rolled up the body of the assault vehicle, and the ninjas jumped from the tall buildings on either side of the motorcade like a black wave.
Shots rang out, and both sides quickly exchanged fire. Scripps' personal guards are quite good, but they are still vulnerable in front of these black-clad ninjas. The black-clad ninja moved as nimble as rabbits, wielding their sparkling knives one by one, and their bodies deftly dodged bullets, and one fell with each flash of swords. The bodyguards even suspected that these ninjas didn't even sweat a drop.
This time was different from the previous two days. Perhaps because of the successive setbacks in the past, the ninjas sent this time are not the same in terms of number and equipment. Rogers alone can't lose to any of them, and even if he faces all of them at the same time with a vibranium shield, he may not be invincible. But it was obviously not so easy to defend the defenseless old man behind him while fighting.
Defeating the enemy can be put on hold, and now it should be prioritized to protect the target.
Rogers led Scripps out of the encirclement, shielding tons of damage. Several figures flew after them like fish swimming in the water, but they were only unceremoniously knocked down by Rogers.
None of them would have been able to go through two rounds under Captain America if it had been a heads-up.
After several twists and turns in the narrow alleyways, Rogers felt that he had finally gotten rid of all his pursuers. He breathed a sigh of relief, slowed his pace, and changed direction to lead the old man away.
"Now where is this going?" Scripps followed him, asking in confusion.
"Go to the safe house." Rogers replied briefly, "Aegis has a safe house around here, let's go there and recuperate before contacting anyone." ”
"Shouldn't we contact ......?"
"No, the enemy should still be nearby now. And the only reason our trip was exposed - no offense, but there may be spies among your people. I'll have to make a couple of phone calls first, and we'll be here for the time being until we decide on our next steps. ”
"Okay." The old man stopped talking, and seemed to trust his judgment.
The safe house wasn't built after Tony took over, it was here in the past when Nick Fury was in charge of Aegis, but it hasn't been used for years.
"No one has been here for years." The captain led him through the door and said, "Relax, sir, it'll be fine." You have a good rest here first, and I'll contact ...... first."
Rogers swallowed back the second half of his sentence, his pupils shrank, and he showed an extremely strange expression and half-knelt in the center of the living room, wheezing violently like a patient with an asthma attack.
"You're right, Captain, I'll be fine."
Scripps's voice and aura suddenly changed, and his voice became sharp and thin, sounding like a ...... Woman?
He walked up to the captain and grinned, "But you might be in trouble." ”
