Chapter 60: Accidents
Manhattan, Broadway.
Gwen followed the three girls, squeezing slowly into the bustling crowd. At night, New York City is like a city that never sleeps, with the business district bustling with traffic, colorful neon lights and large hanging electronic screens showing TV shows, advertisements and news.
The three girls chatted all the way, barely stopping for a moment. According to Gwen's observations, their topics seem to be nothing more than who and who are on campus scandals, or the movements of a Hollywood movie star and rock singer, or clothing, shoes, cosmetics, etc.
Gwen listened to their conversation and interjected from time to time to make her presence felt, but she wasn't really interested in any of the topics, just as she wasn't very keen on the activity of going out shopping with her classmates. And the reason why she came here was purely because she didn't want to act different and be seen as some kind of "weird girl" by her classmates.
Another reason is that she doesn't want to go home too early. She didn't really have much to do when she went back, but to stare at her exaggeratedly large top-notch apartment.
A few girls chatted and chatted, and somehow they rarely talked about physics knowledge. They debated for a while over an issue, and then unanimously turned around and decided to seek advice from "authority figures."
"Hey, genius," one girl asked, "remember what the second cosmic velocity means?" ”
"That refers to the minimum velocity at which an object eventually detaches itself from the Earth's gravitational pull and flies out of the Earth, which is seven miles per second." Gwen replied.
A red-haired girl whistled loudly: "See? That's all I said! ”
"You just happened to be right......"
"But honestly, Gwen, how do you remember all these things?" The redhead asked.
“...... Might as well ask her why she got the highest score in the class on every test. ”
Gwen raised an eyebrow: "Hmm...... Read more books, do more questions, and listen carefully in class? ”
She lied a little bit, but she didn't do any of the above.
Sometimes Gwen felt that she had not only been given Spider-Man's superpowers in that cloning experiment, but had also gained similar brain powers, especially during class. She found that most of the time in her high school class was in a state of divergent thinking and wandering in the world, and she didn't take what she said to the teacher too seriously.
When she came home at night, she didn't spend more time studying than others. When she gets home, she either watches TV to pass the time, or she simply lies alone in bed and stares at the empty bedroom until it's time to turn off the lights and go to bed.
Speaking of which, the most fulfilling time of her week is probably the time to go to the nearby Tianjian sub-base to receive systematic field agent training according to the schedule. Her special training instructor was a fierce, unsympathetic guy who was tall and had a metal arm (which Gwen thought was cool). She didn't know the instructor's name, only that his code name seemed to be "The Winter Soldier".
The training session with the instructor was probably the only one she had a week in which she couldn't wander the world, because he always had some tricks that Gwen didn't like to make sure his students couldn't get distracted.
Having said that, Gwen thought that the so-called "academic tyrants" should probably be like this, and they obviously didn't put much effort into reading and studying, but the scores in the exams always got the first place inexplicably. But whenever someone asks her about the secrets of learning, she never tells the truth, firstly because she probably won't be believed by others, and secondly, because she thinks it might undermine the confidence of others.
She thought that maybe other people might feel better when they heard that she had fought hard and studied hard to get such good grades.
A girl poked Gwen with her elbow: "Hey, Gwen. Do you remember Brent Gardner? ”
"The boys in the class, right? Remember, how? ”
The girl smirked twice: "We just discussed it a little. We guess he's going to have to send you a love letter in the next two days. ”
"Me?" Gwen pointed to herself, "Seriously? ”
The three girls booed in unison.
"Come on, of course it's you. You see, you're smart and so good-looking, what boy wouldn't like it? ”
"And your family must be super rich, right?" Redhead schoolgirl added.
Gwen smiled bitterly, not bothering to explain.
I don't know who first spread the word, saying that this new transfer student Gwen Grovernie, when she came to school on the first day, she sat in an extended version of Cadillac, plus she was dressed from head to toe every day from head to toe in a seemingly casual but actually extremely exquisite world famous brand match (in fact, all the clothes she wore were prepared by Elizabeth), so the rumor that this transfer girl was actually a little princess of a wealthy family spread.
"Why don't you think about getting a boyfriend?" Her companion continued to encourage, "While most of the boys are idiots, some are actually quite good. ”
The red-haired girl pouted, "How did you know Gwen doesn't have a boyfriend yet?" ”
"Huh? Do you have one? ”
Gwen said, "I didn't ......"
"Hah, that must already be someone you like?"
Gwen was about to say no, but she subconsciously paused before she could speak. And her natural reaction was naturally captured by a few classmates who had a surprisingly sensitive sense of smell for gossip.
"Wow, Gwen really has a sweetheart!"
"Really? Who is it? Is it from our school? ”
“......”
Gwen was about to defend herself, but was interrupted by a sudden, sharp tingling sensation.
She had become more familiar with the tingling, and she knew that it was also one of Spider-Man's superpowers, called "Spider Sense", which helped her sense of nearby danger.
But now she's in the heart of Manhattan's bustling city, surrounded by people and people, what triggered her spider sense?
Several of the girls are still arguing about the gossip they just had, and they have even begun to speculate whether Gwen's crush will be a public figure like a superstar. But Gwen's mind was completely lost in the conversation, and her eyes swept around with astuteness, like a spider entrenched in the center of her own web, chasing the direction of the thread being pulled in search of its prey.
Most of the people in the square looked ordinary. Children who have an awkward relationship with their parents in front of a toy store, lovers hugging and kissing under neon lights, and a few young men who kill Matt sitting on a railing on the edge of the square with their legs hanging over and smoking...... Okay, these guys look a little more dangerous than the others, but they shouldn't trigger spider spurs.
That was until she peered through the crowd and noticed two men about two hundred yards away.
One of the men sat on a public bench with his arms tightly clasped and looked like a patient with a cold and fever. A man in a suit with a shaved head walked up to the bench with a black suitcase, whispered a few words to the man, and then put the box down.
Then the bald man in the suit walked away, and the man on the bench eagerly picked up the box, took something out of it, put it to his mouth and sucked it impatiently, like a drug addict.
The stinging pain grew more intense, almost to an unbearable level, and the spider sense rang violently in Gwen's head like an alarm clock that couldn't be turned off.
"Uh, guys," she said, turning her head and interrupting the argument of several of her companions, "I think...... We'd better hurry up. ”
"What? Gwen? Don't try to change the subject......"
"Okay, I'll talk about that later," Gwen said, grabbing a girl by one hand and walking briskly out of the square, "I'm uncomfortable here, let's get out of here quickly." ”
Her friends noticed the disability in her expression: "What's wrong with you?" Uncomfortable? ”
Gwen didn't answer. She led the three of them out of the square as fast as they could, across the street to across the street. The tingling sensation rose to its highest in that moment, and she instinctively shouted "Get down", and with brute force she carried her companions to the ground.
In the next second, a deafening sound of bombing engulfed everything.
The man with the suitcase exploded from the inside out, the flames unleashing a red-hot blast that seemed to vaporize the entire world.
