Chapter 31: The Struggle for Power

Kansas, a small town.

Dead clouds of lead ash cover the town, and the dull and desolate atmosphere makes people feel depressed for no reason. The sky looked like it was likely to rain every second, and pedestrians were hurrying around, and no one wanted to stay on the streets in such weather.

Chris Bruno asked the driver to park the black van next to a bar in town. He jumped out of the car with a few tall, muscular men and strode to the door of the bar. He ignored the "Resting" sign on the door, opened the door and walked in.

Walking through a dimmly lit flight of stairs, Chris walked into the bar's foyer. There was already a table of people sitting around a round table in the booth area, and muscular men were standing straight at the back. They all stood up when they saw Chris enter, a warm bearded man whistling.

"Ha, you are here, I just told them that even if no one else comes, you will never be absent."

The bearded man enthusiastically stepped forward and stretched out his hand. Chris shook his hand symbolically, his gaze coldly swept over every face at the table, and the face was not pretty.

"Only these people?" He asked.

"I'm lucky to have so many." A man leaning on the couch said. He wore a leather wallet and a glittering ornament on his ear. He said: "The death of Baron Straker has torn the whole branch apart. A lot of people start to make small calculations, and they are no longer willing to cooperate with others. They want to stand on their own. ”

"Stupid!" The bearded man rebuked, "Hydra is facing an unprecedented crisis. Although Aegis has been ordered to disband, they will not let us go. Only by uniting and integrating our forces can we have a chance to survive. ”

"That's a good point." Chris also sat down on the stool vacated by the table, and several of his five or three thick henchmen alternated their hands behind him. He opened a bottle of whiskey, poured himself a glass, and took a slow sip before saying, "Straker has gone to meet our founder." But their will should be inherited by us. ”

He paused, shook his glass, and added, "But it's true that we've lost our head." We need to work together, but we can't do anything about it. ”

"That's exactly what we were talking about before you came in." The bearded man said, "There are only a few highest-ranking leaders left in the baron's branch, and we should combine the power of these people and elect a unified leader......

"Let me guess," Chris sneered, "that person do you think should be you?" ”

The bearded man stopped talking. He and Chris looked at each other for a moment, then smiled confidently, "Actually, I didn't have time to get to that part before you came in. But yes, I think I have the ability and passion to carry on the unfinished business of the great man. ”

"Just you? A dogleg sitting in the office? Chris scoffed.

The bearded man's face changed.

"You're trying to say that you think you can be more qualified than I am?"

"I mean, the position of head is never the turn of a person like you, who has never even eaten a gun for Hydra in his life." Chris said coldly, "And not only have I personally been on the front line and received personal commendations from Baron Straker, but I have even had the honor of blocking bullets for him with my body." So yes, if there is one person present who can inherit the baron's business, I think that person should be me. ”

"You've done a lot for Hydra, Chris, and no one will deny that." The bearded man put away his smile and replied-for-tat, "But what you say only proves that you are a brave warrior, not a good leader." Managing an organization requires experience and competence, not cold knives and guns. ”

"But first, you can try to snatch the position away from the gunners."

Chris said quietly, and the muscular thugs behind him took a step, intentionally or unintentionally, revealing the outline of the holster on the inside of his jacket. And the guards behind the bearded man were also not to be outdone, and stepped forward tacitly. The eyes of the two sides met, and the murderous aura seemed to rub a strong smell of gunpowder in the air.

Almost everyone held their breath, and the murderous aura from the confrontation between the two sides was overwhelming, and the people present didn't even dare to breathe...... Except for the man with sparkling earrings and a black wallet.

"Calm down, calm down." He sat back on the sofa in a lazy position, dangling a wine glass on the ground, "You old guys all stop meeting, be careful of high blood pressure or something." You're all amazing guys, really, big guys. But if you want me to say, times are changing, and Hydra must change too. Maybe we should consider a new breed of fresh blood, a younger, more enthusiastic person to lead the rest. ”

During the confrontation, the eyes of both sides fell on him.

After an eerie moment of silence, the bearded man burst out laughing as if he couldn't help but laugh.

"Just you?" He said coldly, "Your qualifications are not as good as ours, your experience is not as good as ours, and your ability is not as good as ours." What do you think you are qualified for? ”

The man in the leather jacket smiled slightly, and the large number of men in black who were waiting behind him stepped forward in unison.

"Just because I have more people and more guns...... More than the two of you combined, I'm afraid. He took a sip of whiskey and said, "I think you probably didn't think you guys thought about that." ”

The confrontation between the two sides turned into a three-way confrontation, and the smell of gunpowder became stronger in the bar, as if it only took a little spark as an introduction to blow up the whole room.

But none of them had time to take the lead after all. The roof exploded with a deafening roar, and steel figures fell from the breach with flames, kicking up dust that swept through the bar.

Michael blasted the ceiling and made a grand appearance, and when he looked up, Shirley had already intelligently marked the leaders of the three parties in the monitor with a conspicuous lock frame.

Without saying a word, Michael activated his back thruster and flew into the enemy line. Before anyone could react, he blew up the arrogant head of the man in the leather jacket on the back of the couch with a pulsing cannon, and then flew up and kicked the bearded man in the stomach. With more than ten tons of leg power output, the beard slammed through the wall and flew out of the bar, and he couldn't survive.

This Bruno may have been a pretty good fighter in the past, and he was the first person in the audience to realise what was going on. He jumped to his feet, took two diagonal steps, and drew his gun and opened fire on the attacker's knees, neck, shoulders, and other armor joints that might have been relatively weakly defended, and the response was swift and impeccable......

...... It's a pity that this doesn't seem to make him any different from the previous two. Michael's palm flipped over and fired another shot, and the system-assisted aiming pulse light cannon exploded Chris's chest without any fancy fancy.

From the time Michael blasted the ceiling to the time the three leaders fell, it seemed like a long time, but in fact it only took two seconds in total. The thugs who had lost their leadership were now pointing their guns at the mysterious intruder, but no one fired a shot.

"Now," Michael's mechanically processed voice rang out loud from the loudspeaker, "is there anyone else here who wants to call the shots?" ”

No one was silent.

"Very well, then from now on, it will be up to me to give the order. Does anyone have any objections? ”

Everyone looked at each other for a while, and then they put down their guns one after another without knowing who took the lead, and they gave an answer with action.

Michael stepped forward and casually pointed out a guy with stubble who looked like he was in his thirties.

"You."

The man pointed blankly at himself: "You...... Say me, sir? ”

"Yes. What is your name? ”

“...... Rick, sir. Rick Belloc. ”

"Rick, from now on, all the subordinate institutions of those three people are under your control." Michael said lightly, "I need you to help me do a few things." ”

"Obey, sir."

"I want you to spread the word as widely as possible, find all the remaining forces, and gather their ranks. It doesn't matter if you're tough, if you have to. I need all the people in Straker's remnants to hear within a week. ”

"Understood, sir." Rick patted his chest, "Guaranteed to complete the task." ”

"Hydra needs more than just a rebuild, it needs a complete makeover." Michael's gaze slowly swept over everyone in front of him, "From now on, Hydra no longer exists. We're going to build something else on top of its wreckage...... Something very different. ”
