Chapter 22: Identity

Late at night, a certain Hydra facility.

The searchlights were like swords that staggered around the base, slicing through the deep darkness.

The perimeter of the base is surrounded by an iron fence with high-voltage electricity, and the height is close to three meters, and no one can normally leap over it while it is electrified. But now someone has done it, wearing a black uniform that allows for nocturnal movement, black goggles and a mask, and a silver-white mechanical power arm. He jumped over the air above the high-pressure iron fence more than three meters high, and his body was as light as a swallow.

The Winter Soldier. He had been a sharp knife under the control of the Hydra, but now the knife had regained its consciousness and began to attack his master in turn.

It was about one hundred and fifty meters from where he landed to the lookout, and according to the pattern of the searchlight beam, it was at least seven seconds before the light next swept the area. One hundred and fifty meters in seven seconds is a bit exaggerated for the world record holder, but it is not impossible for a super soldier.

He managed to avoid the searchlight and reached the lookout, and rushed to the tower to bring down the two Hydra soldiers who were sitting in the duty room playing poker. He infiltrated like a ghost, precise and deadly, but silent.

Two flashbangs smashed through the windows on the third floor and threw them in, taking the eyes of the soldiers guarding the room off guard. The Winter Soldier followed, his right hand holding his spear and his left arm holding a special sword upside down, the blade glowing in the cold light.

The alarm was triggered, and the entire base was put on high alert - but it didn't matter, the deadliest killer had infiltrated the interior. It took him less than three seconds to finish off the three Hydra soldiers in the room, and he walked into the hallway, striding forward while shooting down every enemy that came his way.

The Winter Soldier blocked the Killing Buddha and the Killing Buddha, and no one in the entire building seemed to be able to stop his progress. He left corpses all the way to the office at the end of the corridor on the third floor. He kicked the door open, and the bald Hydra agent with a pair of glasses was already inside with his hands raised and posing for surrender.

"Wait! Wait! Sitwell shouted, cold sweat on his bare head, "I surrender, okay?" I'll cooperate, I'll tell you everything......"

The Winter Soldier tilted his head.

"Thank you." He spoke hoarsely. But before the bald boy had time to be relieved, he pulled the trigger. Long fireworks erupted from the barrel of the Colt pistol, and the bullets swirled through the bald head, killing him before he could react to what had happened.

The Winter Soldier lowered his gun and looked down at Sitwell's fallen corpse.

"But I don't care."

Aegis, Triple Wing Building, Director's Office.

Nick Fury stared gloomily at the 3D projection map in front of him, and more than a dozen red points of light were marked on the vast blue map. They are large and small, some are hidden in the mountains, some are hidden underwater, and some are simply hidden underground in the Aegis facility.

Fury looked up, one-eyed and skeptically sharp at the mysterious man in high-tech armor standing in front of the floor-to-ceiling window - he had grown more and more surprised by the guy popping up in his office every now and then over the past month and a half.

"You're saying it's all Hydra's stronghold." Fury looked at him and whispered, "How sure are you?" ”

"One hundred percent." "You should know that not a single piece of the information I've given you so far has gone wrong," said Michael. ”

"We have a chance to verify every piece of information you have provided before. But this? Fury gestured to the map with red dots floating on his desk, "This one is not the same as before. ”

Michael said lightly: "I wouldn't say that if it weren't for nine out of ten, but this war has indeed reached a critical juncture, Director Fury." I've listed for you that these are the hearts of Hydra, and they're going to be able to preserve their strength even after they're exposed — and that's not just about defending themselves several times stronger than the ones they've taken out by S.H.I.E.L.D. before.

These bases are all ventilated and interconnected, and together they weave a vast network of sensitivity. As soon as one of them is lost, the other parts will be immediately transferred by implementing backup protocols, and all information will be destroyed. It took me a lot of effort to find out where they were, and if anything went wrong, it would be useless. ”

Fury tapped on the glass tabletop, "You mean, you have to kill them all at the same time." ”

Michael nodded.

The Hydra is an incomparably large organization that is intricately rooted in all corners of the planet. Michael could kill an army head-on, but he didn't have the men and resources to take out a behemoth like Hydra.

That's why he needs Aegis's intervention.

"'Chop off one head and you'll grow two.'" Michael repeated the well-known Hydra slogan, "There's a reason for that." Hydra is like an unbeatable little strongman, every time you think you've eradicated them completely, they always find an opportunity to hibernate, accumulate strength, and then rise back at the moment you least expect...... Unless we don't give them a chance to grow new heads. ”

Fury leaned back, his chin crossed with his hands crossed.

"Not long ago you proved to me that my old boss, Alexander Pierce, the man who had personally handed me the position of Commander of S.H.I.E.L.D., was actually a Hydra spy." Fury said, "I still haven't figured out how to deal with the World Security Council, and now you want me to start a final showdown with Hydra." It is impossible for such a big move to be hidden from the Council, and I must get my approval. ”

"Theoretically, that's true." Michael disagreed, "But you're Nick Fury, don't tell me you can't even a few old men sitting in the office." ”

"Maybe I could, but you haven't given me a good reason yet." Fury stared at his eyepiece with electric eyes, "You said when you first offered to cooperate, I don't have to give you any credit. You leave the information, I check the truth and then decide for myself whether or not to act - that's how things have always worked.

But now it's different. You said that we need to take down so many bases in one go, and it is impossible for us to verify them one by one before we do it. And so far we have not had enough trust to make this a reality. I'm sure you'll be able to understand that I can't risk sending all my agents into a trap. ”

"Reasonable." Michael nodded, not in the slightest. After all, Aegis didn't know anything about him until now, and Nick Fury, as the commander, had to take into account all the risks.

But before he made this proposal, he had been prepared for a long time.

"If successful, this may be the last time we work together, Director Fury. If successful, Hydra will be erased from human history forever and never exist again – which means a lot to both of us. ”

Michael said, gaps in his armor's limbs and chest were beginning to appear. The screws at the numerous joints begin to rotate, and the parts separate from each other.

"So in order to contribute to this success, of course, trust is also essential." Michael continued to himself, "And I'm willing to take that step first. ”

Nick Fury glared as the black armor opened in the middle, and the man who had been hiding behind the armor for a month and a half stepped out of it and straightened his shirt.

"Reacquaint, Director Fury." He held out his hand, "I'm glad we're finally officially meeting." ”
